5 MANUALS PROVIDED WITH THE MACHINE Printed manuals a nd manuals stored in PDF format on the mach ine's hard drive are p rovided with the machine.
6 This section prov ides informatio n that you should know before using the machine as a copier. BASE SCREEN OF COPY MODE Touch the [COPY] key in the t ouch panel to open the base scree n of copy mode. The base screen shows messages and keys necessary for copying, and settings that ha ve been selected.
7 (9) Paper select display This shows the size o f paper loaded in each tray. For the bypass tray, the pap er type a ppears above the paper size. The selected tray i s highlighted. The approximate amount o f paper in each tray is indicated by . Trays 1 to 5 can be touched to open the same screen as when the [Paper Select] key is touched.
8 Customizing displayed keys Special mode keys and ot her keys can be displayed in the base screen. By assi gning frequen tly used functions t o these keys, you can a ccess the functions with a single to uch. To chan ge the functio n that is assi gn ed to a ke y, use "Customize Key Setting" in the Web page s.
9 COPYING SEQUENCE This section explains the basic proced ure for copying. Select settings in the order shown b elow to ensure that the copy operation ta kes place smoot hly. For detailed proce dures for selecting the settings, see the explanation of ea ch setting in this ma nual.
10 Output settings Select copy output settings. The main settings are as follow s: •S o r t m o d e ☞ Sort mode (page 38) • Group mode ☞ Group mode (page 38 ) • Offset mode ☞ Offset functi.
11 Start copying. Start scanning the original (s) and making copi es. • When one or more special modes are selected, the key ap pea rs in the base screen. T ouch the key to display a list of the selected special modes. This lets you check what special modes are selected and th e settings of each mode.
12 ORIGINALS CHECKING THE ORIGINAL SIZE When [Auto] appe ars in the [Original] key, the size of t he placed original is automat ically detecte d. The machine automatically dete cts the original size when an origin al is plac ed and displays t he size in the [Original] key in the ba se screen.
13 Standard original placement orientations Place originals in the docume nt feeder tray or on the document gl ass so that the top and bo ttom of the origin al are oriented as shown in the illustration. If th e original is not oriented correctly and a function such as stapling is selected, the staple positions may n ot be correct.
14 PAPER TRAYS The machine is set to aut omatically sele ct a tray th at has th e same size of paper as the size of the pla ced original (automatic paper tray selection) . If the correct p aper size is not selected or you wish to ch ange the pa per size, you can select the paper tray manu ally.
15 This chapter exp lains the basic procedur es for making copies, including selection of the copy rat io and other copy settings. MAKING COPIES USING THE AUTOMATIC DOCUMENT FEEDER TO MAKE COPIES This section explains how t o make copies (1-sided co pies of 1-sided or iginals) using the auto matic document feede r.
16 3 Set the number of copies (number of sets) with the numeric keys. • Up to 999 copies (sets) can be set. • A single copy can be made even if "0" appears for the number of copies. If an incorrect number of cop ies is set... Press the [CLEAR] key ( ) and then enter the correct number.
17 MAKING A COPY USING THE DOCUMENT GLASS To make a copy of a book or othe r thick original that cannot be scanne d with the automat ic document feeder , open the automatic documen t feeder and place the or iginal on the document glass. This section explains how to make a copy (1-sided copy of a 1-sided origina l) using the document glass.

20 Using the [Binding Change] key 4 Check the paper to be used and the colour mode. Make sure that the desired paper (tray) and colou r mode are selected. • To change the paper (tra y), touch the [Paper Select] key. ☞ PAPER TRAYS (page 14) • To change the colour mode, to uch the [Colour Mode] key.
21 AUTOMATIC 2-SIDED COPYING USING THE DOCUMENT GLASS Automatic 2 -sided co pying of 1- sided originals 1 Open the automatic document feeder, place the original face down on the document glass, and then gently close the automatic document feeder. • Align the corner of the original with th e tip of the arrow mark on the document glass scale.
22 3 Select the 2-sided copy mode. (1) Touch the [1-Sided to 2-Sided] key. (2) Touch the [OK] key. The [2-Sided to 2-Sided] key and [2-Sided to 1-Sid ed] key cannot be used when copying fro m the document glass. 4 Check the paper to be used and the colour mode.
23 7 Remove the original and place the next original, and then press the [COLOUR START] key ( ) or the [BLACK & WHITE START] key ( ). Repeat this step until all origina ls have been scanned. For the second orig inal and following originals, use the same [START] key as you did for the first original.
24 COPY COLOUR MODES The colour mode of the [ COLOUR START] key ( ) is normally set to [Full Colour ] so that copying takes pla ce in full colour mode when the [COLOUR START ] key ( ) is pressed.
25 Selecting single colour copying When [Single Colour] is selected for the colou r mode, the following scr een appears. Touch t he desired colour and t ouch the [OK] key. Selecting 2 colour copying When [2 Colour] is selected for the colour mode, the following screen appear s.
26 CHANGING THE EXPOSURE AND ORIGINAL IMAGE TYPE The exposure and original ima ge type can be selected t o obtain a clear copy. AUTOMATIC ADJUSTMENT OF THE EXPOSURE AND ORIGINAL TYPE Automatic exposure ad justment operat es by default to autom atically adjust the exposure leve l and original type as appropriate for th e original being copied.
27 2 Adjust the exposure level. Touch the key to make the co py darker. Touch the key to make the co py lighter. • Using a copy or pri nted page as an or iginal When using a copy or printed page fro m the machine as an original, touch the [Copy of Copy] checkbox so that a checkmark appears.
28 REDUCTION/ENLARGEMENT/ZOOM AUTOMATIC RATIO SELECTION (Auto Image) This section explains th e automat ic ratio select ion functio n (Auto I mage), whic h automa tically selects the ratio to match the paper size. When the paper tr ay is manually changed, th e [Auto Im age ] key appears in the base screen of copy mode.
29 MANUALLY SELECTING THE RATIO (Preset ratios/Zoom) Touch the [Copy Rati o] key in the base scr een of copy mode to sele ct one of five pre set enlargement ra tios or five prese t reduction rat ios (maxim um 400%, mi nimum 25%) . In addition, t he zoom keys can be used to select any ratio from 25% to 400% in incre ments of 1%.
30 2 Touch the [OK] key. After touching the [OK] key, ma ke sure that a paper size suitable for the ra tio is sele cted. To return the ratio to 100%... To return the ra tio setting to 100 %, touch the [Copy Ratio ] key to display the ratio menu and then touch the [1 00%] key.
31 ENLARGING/REDUCING TH E LENGTH AND WIDTH SEPARATELY (XY Zoom) The XY Zoom f eature allows the horizontal and vert ical copy rat ios to be changed separat ely. Both the horizont al and vertical ratios can be set fr om 25% to 400% in increments of 1%.
32 ORIGINAL SIZES SPECIFYING THE ORIGINAL SIZE When the original size is a non-st andard size or is not detected correctly, manu ally specify the original size. Touch the [Original] key in the base screen of copy mode a nd then follow the steps be low.
33 STORING FREQUENTLY USED ORIGINAL SIZES You can save special original size s that you frequent ly use. This section expl ains how to store, re trieve, change, and delete special original sizes. Storing original sizes (editing/clearing) Up to 9 special original siz es can be st ored.
34 2 Store the original size. (1) Touch the [Store/Delete] tab. (2) Touch a key for storing a custom original size. Touch a key that does not show a size ( ). If you wish to edit or cl ear a previously stored key... Touch the key that you want to edit o r clear.
35 Retrieving a stored original size To retrieve a st ored original size , touch the [Or iginal] key in th e base screen of cop y mode and perfor m the steps below. 1 Touch the [Cus tom Size] key. 2 Retrieve the desired st ored original size. (1) Touch the [Recall] tab.
36 OUTPUT To select out put functions an d the output tray, touch t he [Output] key in the base scr een of copy mod e. Output funct ions that can be selected are sor t, group, offset , staple sort, saddle stitch, and punch. All explanations of t he settings below assume that a saddle stitch finisher is installed.
37 The above screen shows the keys that appear when a saddle stitch finisher is installed. The keys that appear will vary depending on what peripheral devices are installed. In addition, it may not be possible to select some keys depend ing what peripheral devices are installed.
38 OUTPUT MODES This section explains the output modes. Sort mode This is used to sort (colla te) outp ut into sets. Example: Sorting t he output into 5 sets Group mode This function gro ups copies by page.
39 Staple sort function / Saddle stitch function The staple sort func tion sorts outp ut into sets, staple s each set, and delivers the sets to the tray. The saddle stitch functi on staples each set in 2 places at the centreline and folds th e stapled set.
40 Punch function If an optional punch mo dule is installed, holes can be punched in output. Paper that can be pu nched is B5R to A3 (55 g /m 2 to 256 g /m 2 ) (7-1/4" x 10-1/2 " to 11" x 17" (15 lbs.
41 MAKING COPIES USING THE BYPASS TRAY In addition to plain pa per, the bypass tray allows you to make copies on tr ansparency film, envelope s, tab paper, and other special media . For detailed inform ation on paper that can be loaded in the bypass tray, see the Safety Guide.
42 4 Check the paper type setting for the bypass tray. If you need to change the setting, touch the paper type key. If you do not need to change the paper size and type that appear under "Bypass Tray", go to step 7. 5 Select the type of paper used in the bypass tray.
43 7 Select the bypass tray. (1) Touch the paper size key of the bypass tray. (2) Touch the [OK] key. 8 Press the [COLOUR START] key ( ) or the [BLACK & WHITE START] key ( ). Scanning begins. • If the original s were placed in the document feede r tray, the originals are copied.
44 This chapte r explains Margin Shift, Er ase, Dual Page Copy, an d other special mode s. SPECIAL MODES When the [Special Mode s] key is pressed in the ba se screen, the special mode s menu screen appears. The special modes men u consists of two scree ns.

46 [OK] key and [Cancel] key In some cases two [OK] keys and one [Cancel] key will ap pear in the specia l mode screens. The ke ys are used as follows: (A) Enter the selected special mode settings an d return to the b ase screen of copy mode. (B) Enter the selected special mode settings an d return to the special mode s menu screen.
47 ADDING MARGINS (Margin Shift) This function is used t o shift the c opy image r ight, left or down to ad just the m argin. This is convenient when you wish to bind the copies with a str ing or in a binder.
48 4 Press the [COLOUR START] key ( ) or the [BLACK & WHITE START] key ( ). Copying will beg in. If you are using the document glass to copy multiple original pages, copying will take place as you scan each original. If you have selected sort mode, change originals and press the [START] key.
49 ERASING PERIPHERAL SHADOWS (Erase) The erase function is used to erase shadows around the ed ges of copies th at occur when copying t hick originals or books. When a thick book is copied Erase modes Shadows appear here Not using the e rase function Using the erase function Shadows appear on the copy.
50 4 Press the [COLOUR START] key ( ) or the [BLACK & WHITE START] key ( ). Copying will beg in. If you are using the document glass to copy multiple original pages, copying will take place as you scan each original. If you have selected sort mode, change originals and press the [START] key.
51 COPYING EACH FACING PAGE OF A BOUND DOCUMENT (Dual Page Copy) The dual page copy f unction produces sepa rate copies of two documen t pages that ar e placed side by side on the document glass. This funct ion is useful when making copi es of the facing pages of a book or other bo und document.
52 3 Select Dual Page Copy. (1) Touch the [Special Modes] key. ☞ SPECIAL MODES (page 44) (2) Touch the [Dual Page Copy] key so that it i s highlighted. (3) Touch the [OK] key. You will return to the base screen of copy mode. 4 Press the [COLOUR START] key ( ) or the [BLACK & WHITE START] key ( ).
53 MAKING COPIES IN PAMPHLET FORMAT (Pamphlet Copy) This function copie s 2 original pages onto the front side and 2 or iginal pages onto the rever se side of each sheet of paper so that th e copies can be folded at the cent reline to form a pamphle t.
54 3 Select pamphlet copy settings. (1) If the original is 1-sided, touch the [1-Sided] key. If the original is 2-sided, touch the [2-Sided] key. (2) Select the binding edge ([Left Binding] or [Right Binding]). (3) To insert a cover, touch the [Cover Setting] key.
55 5 Touch the [OK] key. You will return to the base screen of copy mode. 6 Press the [COLOUR START] key ( ) or the [BLACK & WHITE START] key ( ). Copying will beg in. If you are using the document glass, change originals and press the [START] key.
56 COPYING A LARGE NUMBER OF ORIGINALS AT ONCE (Job Build) When copying a very large numbe r of originals, this func tion allows yo u to divide the originals into sets and feed each set through th e automatic document feeder one se t at a time.
57 3 Press the [COLOUR START] key ( ) or the [BLACK & WHITE START] key ( ) to scan the first set of originals. Scanning begins. To cancel scanning... Press the [STOP] key ( ). 4 Insert the next set of originals and press the [COLOUR START] key ( ) or the [BLACK & WHITE START] key ( ).
58 USING TWO MACHINES TO MAKE A LARGE NUMBER OF COPIES (Tandem Copy) Two machines connected to the same net work can be used to run a large copy job in parallel. Each machine print s half of the copies, re ducing the time re quired to complete the job.
59 3 Set the number of copies (number of sets) with the numeric keys. Up to 999 copies (sets) can be set. W hen the [COLOUR START] key ( ) or the [BLACK & WHITE START] key ( ) is pressed, the copies will automatica lly be divided between the master and slave machines.
60 In this situation ... A punch module is installed on the master mac hine but not on the slave mac hine. • Copying without punching: tandem copy is possible. • Copying with punchin g: tandem copy is no t possible. In this way, if tandem copying is execut ed using a function that the slave mach ine does not have, a message will appear.
61 USING A DIFFERENT PAPER TYPE FOR COVERS (Covers/Inserts) A different type of paper can be inserted in position s corresponding to fro nt and back covers of a copy job when the automatic docu ment feeder is used. A dif ferent type of p aper can also be automatically added as an insert at specified pages.
62 INSERTING COVERS IN COPIES (Cover Settings) A different t ype of pap er can be in serted a t the positio ns corres ponding to the front a nd back co vers of a copy job. This is useful for arranging docume nts in an attractive form at and for using a different type of paper as a cover on an estimate sh eet or similar document.
63 4 Select cover settings. (1) If the cover sheet will be copied on, touch the [Yes] key. Otherwise, touch the [No] key. If the [No] key is touched, o nly cover insertion will be performed. In this case, go to step (3). (2) To copy on one side of the cover, touch the [1-Sided] key.
64 6 Touch the [OK] key. You will return to the base screen of copy mode. You can touch the [Insertion Type A] key or the [Insertion Type B] key to select insert settings. ☞ INSERTING INSERT SHEETS IN COPIES (Insert Settings) (page 65) To check your settings, t ouch the [Page La yout] key.
65 INSERTING INSERT SHEETS IN COPIES (Insert Settings) You can have diff erent paper au tomatically inserted as inser ts at specified pages of copies. Two types of paper can be used as inserts, and the insertion positions can be specified sepa rately for each.
66 4 Select insert settings. (1) If the insert will be copied on, touch the [Yes] key. Otherwise, t ouch the [No] key. If the [No] key is touched, o nly insert sheet insertio n will be performed. In this case, go to step (3). (2) To copy on one side of the insert, touch the [1-Sided] key.
67 6 Touch the [Insertion Settings] key. 7 Specify the pages where inserts A and B will be inserted. (1) Touch the [Insertion Type A] key or the [Insertion Type B] key. Specify the page whe re the highl ighted insert will be inserted. (A) This show s the tray select ed for i nsert type A and the paper size and type.
68 8 Touch the [OK] key. You will return to the base screen of copy mode. To select cover settings, touch the [Front Cover] key or the [Back Cover] key. ☞ INSERTING COVERS IN COPIES (Cover Settings) (page 62) To check your settings, t ouch the [Page La yout] key.
69 CHANGING COVER/INSERT SETTINGS (Page Layout) Cover settings an d insert settings ca n be combined. This section explains how to check comple ted cover and insert inse rtion page settin gs, and change or delete inser tion pages. Changing insert A from page 4 to page 5 1 Select the special modes.
70 3 Example: Touch in sert A at page 4 Touch the key of the page that you wish to delete or change. If you do not need to change the setting, touch the [OK] key and go to step 6. • Each key shows a print image icon and the insertion pag e. • If there are multiple screens, touch the keys to move through the screens.
71 5 Change the settings for insert type A/B. The settings are changed in the same way as they are initially configured. See step 7 of " INSERTING INSERT SHEETS IN COPIES (Insert Settings) " (page 65) to change the insert settings. After changing the settin gs, touc h the [OK] key and retu rn to step 3.
72 ADDING INSERTS WHEN COPYING ON TRANSPARENCY FILM (Transparency Inserts) When copying on transparency f ilm, the sheets may stick together due to static electricity. Th e transparency inserts function ca n be used to autom atically insert a sh eet of paper bet ween each sheet of tra nsparency film, ma king the sheets easy to handl e.
73 4 Select insert settings. (1) Select whether or not the insert paper will be copied on ([Yes] or [No]). (2) Select insert paper settings. (A) The curren tly selected paper tray for the inserts is displayed. (B) The size an d type of paper in the currently selected tray is displayed.
74 COPYING MULTIPLE ORIGINALS ONTO ONE SHEET (Multi Shot) Multiple original pages can be copied onto a single sheet of pap er in a uniform layout. Select 2in1 to cop y two original pages onto one sh eet, or 4in1 to copy fo ur original pages on to one shee t.
75 3 Select the number of originals to be copied onto one sheet of paper, the layout, and the border. (1) Touch the [2in1] key or the [4in1] key. If needed, the images will be ro tated. (2) Select the layout. Select the order in wh ich the originals will be arranged on the copy.
76 COPYING A PAMPHLET (Book Copy) This function is used to make a copy of the two facing pages of an open boo k or other bound document . Copies made with this f unction can be fo lded at the centre to create a booklet. This function is conven ient for arranging copies into an attract ive bookle t or pamph let.
77 2 Select book copy settings. (1) Select the binding position ([Left Binding] or [Right Binding]). (2) To insert a cover, touch the [Cover Setting] key. If a cover will not be added, go to step 4. Cover settings cannot be selecte d if insertion of covers an d inserts is disabled in the sys tem settings (administrator).
78 4 Touch the [OK] key. You will return to the base screen of copy mode. 5 Place the original face down on the document glass. Place the opened front cover and b ack cover face down. 6 Press the [COLOUR START] key ( ) or the [BLACK & WHITE START] key ( ) to scan the first original.
79 8 Touch the [R ead-End] key. Copying will beg in. To cancel scanning and copyin g... Press the [STOP] key ( ). • Four original pages will be copied onto eac h sheet of paper. Blank p ages will be auto mati cally added at the end if the total number of original page s is not a multiple of four.
80 COPYING CAPTIONS ONTO TAB PAPER (Tab Copy) Captions can be copied onto the tabs of ta b paper . Prepare appropriat e originals for the ta b captions. Tab copy is possible from both tray 3 an d the bypass tray. The following explanation uses th e bypass tray as an example.
81 Tab copying with a right binding Original s Placing the originals Loading tab paper • Document feeder tray Insert the originals so that the side with no tab text enters first. Load the tab paper so that the tab on th e first sheet is away from you.
82 4 Load the tab paper. • When using the bypass tray, place the paper with the print side down. Place the paper so that the sides with the tabs enter the machine last. After loading the tab paper, configure the bypass tray settings as explained in " MAKING COPIES USING THE BYPASS TRAY " (page 41).
83 COPYING BOTH SIDES OF A CARD ON ONE SHEET OF PAPER (Card Shot) When copying a card, this fu nction allows yo u to copy the fron t and reverse side s together ont o a single sheet of pap er. This function is conven ient for ma king copies f or identifi cation purp oses and h elps save pa per.
84 4 Select card shot settings. (1) Enter the original size. With the [X] key highlighted, enter the X (horizontal) dimension of the original with the keys.
85 • The original must be placed on the document glass. • Copying is only p ossible on standard size paper. • XY Zoom cannot be used when using this function. • The image cannot be rotated when using this function. To cancel card shot... Touch the [Cancel] key in the screen of step 4.
86 PRINTING THE DATE AND A STAMP ON COPIES (Stamp) Use this function to pr int the date, a sta mp, the page nu mber, and text on copies. Six printing po sitions are availab le: top lef t, top cent re, top righ t, bottom left, bott om centre, and bottom right.
87 GENERAL PROCEDURE FOR USING STAMP To select stamp setting s, follow the step s below. 1 Place the original. Place the original face up in th e document f eeder tray, or face down on the document gl ass. 2 Select the special modes. (1) Touch the [Special Modes] key.

89 7 Press the [COLOUR START] key ( ) or the [BLACK & WHITE START] key ( ). Copying will beg in. If you are using the document glass to copy multiple original pages, copying will take place as you scan each original. If you have selected sort mode, change originals and press the [START] key.
90 ADDING THE DATE TO COPIES (Date) The date can be printed on copies. The position of t he date, colour, for mat, and page (first page only or all pages) can be selected. Example: Printing APRIL 1, 2006 in the top right corner of the paper. 1 Touch the [Date] key in the st amp selection screen.
91 4 Check the displayed da te. If you need to change the date, touch the [D ate Change] key. Set the date that you wish to use and touch th e [OK] key. • If you select a da te that does not e xist (such as Feb. 30), the [OK] key will be greyed out to prevent entry.
92 STAMPING COPIES (Stamp) Text such as "CONFIDENTIAL" can be printed in white on a dark background as a "stamp" on copies. The position, colour , size, density, and pages (first page only or all pages) can be se lected for a stamp.
93 3 Touch the [Print Colo ur] key and set the colour and density. Touch the colour that you wish to use. If you wish to darken the selected colour, touch the key. If you wish to lighten the selected colour, touch the key. When you have finished selecting the settings, touch the [OK] key.
94 PRINTING PAGE NUMBERS ON COPIES (Page Numbering) Page numbers can be printed on copies. The positio n, colour, f ormat, and p age number can be selected for page numbering. Printing the page number at th e bottom centre of the paper. 1 Touch the [Page Numbering] key in the stamp selection screen.
95 3 Touch the [Print Colour] key. Touch the colour that you wish to use. When you have finished selecting the settings, touch the [OK] key. • If you selected a colour other than [Bk (Black)], pre ss the [COLOUR START] key ( ). Pressing the [BLACK & WHITE START] key ( ) will print the page numbers in black and white.
