4 English SAFETY PRECA U TIONS About the printer k If the print er makes a strange noise, emits a s trange odor , or if smoke comes out fr om it, immediately turn off the po wer and unplug it fr om the power outlet. i If the printer is used unde r these conditions, it ma y cause a fire or electr ic shock.
English 5 k Do not place flo wer v ases or othe r container s holding liquids on top of the printe r . i In the ev ent that water or other liquid has gotten inside the printer, immediately turn off the prin ter , unplug it from the power outlet, and contact the dealer .
6 English k Do not stand the prin ter on its side. i The printer should be in its correct hor izontal position when in use. i If the pr inter is operated while set on its side, the paper f eed and/or discha rge ma y not work proper ly and cause a malfuncti on.
English 7 k Cautions during use and stor age . i This prin ter is a precision instr ument. When using or storing th e printer , make sure to av oid the follo wing locations to av oid damage.
8 English k Do not remo ve the paper tra y during printing. i During printing, the pape r is moving back and f or th within the pr inter . If you attempt to touch the paper , it may result in injur y . Do not touch the paper tray until printing is finished.
English 9 About the A C adapter k Make sure the rated v oltage of A C adapter matches the li ne volta ge in you r ar ea . i Fire and/or electrocution could result from connecting the AC adapter to a line v oltage other tha n that f or which it is rated.
10 English k Caution when conne cting the A C adapter . i Securely plug the power cord all the wa y into the power outlet. If the power cord is not fully plugged in, he at ma y be generated and cause a fire. i Do not use a bundled power cord, as the heat gener- ated may cause a fire.

Bef ore removing the card, turn off the power to the printer and wait f or it to cool down. i K eep out of the reach of childre n. If the card is inser ted incorrectly , it ma y cause an accident to occur .

English 13 k Caution concerning undesire d interference h The printer may create undesired interference if used close to a television or radio . T o av oid this type of inte rf erence, make sure the cores on the supplied power cord and AC adapter are not removed.

English 21 SETUP PO WER CONNECTION Connect the A C adapter Connect the supplied AC adapter to the printer . Make sure that all the power cord and AC adapter plugs are firmly inser ted. 1 Inser t the power cord pl ug into the A C adapt- er socket. 2 Connect the other end of the po wer cord plug to a power outlet.
22 English SETUP INST ALL THE INK RIBBON The ink ribbon is not suppli ed with this printe r . Please purchase a separately sold post- card and ink ribbon set. About the ink ribbon i When installing the ink r ibbon, do not touch the ribbon. If the r ibbon is smudged with fingerpr ints or dir t, the resulting print quality may be inf erio r .

28 English SETUP 3 Insert the card. h Choose the correct slot f or your type of card. h T ake care that the card is oriented correctly , and fir mly push it all the wa y in. Slot A: Smar tMedia, SD Memor y Card, MultiMedia Card, Memor y Stick Slot B: CompactFlash , Microdrive h When a card is i nser ted, the MEMOR Y CARD indicator will light.
English 29 PRINTING SETTING THE PRINT MODE This section explains ho w to set the pr int mode. 1 Turn ON the power and insert a card into the correct card slot (see pages 21 , 28). 2 Press the MENU button to move the menu pointer [ g ] to the [Mode] menu.
30 English PRINTING INDEX PRINTS A print that shows thumbnail versions of the images-up to 20 per sheet-is called an “index print”. When a memor y card contains a lot of image data, this print mode can be very useful for cataloguing the many images .
English 31 PRINTING 2 Select th e page to be printed. h Y ou can select whether to print the images on the selected page or print the images on all pages. 1 Press the MENU button to mov e the menu pointer [ g ] to the [Image Num- ber]. 2 Press the [+] or [–] button to select the page to be printe d.
32 English PRINTING INDEX SELECT PRINTS Select the desired image data from the i ndex images on the LCD monitor a nd print them. Y ou can select se v eral images and specify the number of pr ints f or each image. 1 Set the printer to the Index Se lect pr int mode (see page 29).
English 33 PRINTING 2 Specify the ima ge to print and the num- ber of prints. 1 Press the MENU button and mov e the menu pointer [ g ] to [Image Number]. 2 Press the [+] or [–] button to select the image to pri nt. h When [+] or [–] is pressed, the Index Navi mov es.
34 English PRINTING ID-SIZE PRINTS ID-size images can be printed on one sheet of pape r . A set of three 30mm × 24mm images and three 45mm × 35mm ima ges is printed on one sheet of paper . 1 Set the printer to the ID Si ze print mode (see page 29). h The image number and number of pr ints is shown on the LCD monitor .

42 English PRINTING O THER PRINT SETTINGS The f ollowing pr inting functions are availab le: Borderle ss prints [Border less*]: The image is pr inted with no white border around the picture. Date imprint [Da te]: The date the image was captured is imprinted in the cor ner .
English 43 PRINTING k About date imprinting i Y ou can select the format of the imprinted date. 1 Select the [Mode] menu. 2 Press the [+] and [–] COPIES b uttons at th e same time f or about 2 seconds. h The screen to select the date format appears.
44 English PRINTING PRINTING FR OM Y OUR DIGIT AL CAMERA (PictBridge printing) PictBridge pr inting allows you to print directly from your digital camera to the printer using just an USB inte rf ace cable. The print settings are controlled with the di gital cam- era.
English 45 TROUBLESHOO TING TR OUBLESHOO TING If malfunction occurs, first check the troub leshooting proced ures giv en below . Prob lem or indication Cause Solution [ u ] is sho wn on the LCD monitor , and the P APER indicator is lit or flashing. The paper tr ay is em pty: The P APER indicator is lit.
46 English TROUBLESHOO TING Printing is not pos- sible , although the card is correctly inser ted and the procedure was cor- rectly follo wed. The inser ted card has defec- tive or has unreadable image data. In this case, the printer will operate differently depend- ing on the selected pr int mode.
English 47 TROUBLESHOO TING A TIFF image can- not be pr inted. i The image is a 16-bit TIFF image that was sav ed using a computer’ s image pro- cessing application. * This printer cannot recog- nize TIFF images that do not conform to the DCF standard.
