Getting Started 5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section helps yo u to quickly start using your device. Understanding T his User Manual The sections of thi s manual generally foll ow the features of your device. A robust index for features begins on page 168.
6 Setting Up Y our Device Prior to use, it is n ecessary to install the battery into it s corresponding internal compartment. The microSD card slot is also located in this sam e internal area. R emo ving the Batter y Co ve r 1. Remove the batt ery cover by placing your t humbnail into the slot at the bo ttom of the device (1).
Getting Started 7 Remo vi ng a Memor y Card Import ant!: T o prevent damage to information stored on the memory card, unmount the card before removing it from the device. 1. From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key ➔ Settings ➔ SD card and device storage ➔ Unmount SD card .
8 1. Place the batter y cover onto th e back of the device and press down (1). 2. Press down on the bottom of the device (2) until you hear a light click (3). Charging the Batter y Y our device is powered by a rechargeable, standard Li-Ion battery . The T ravel Charger that is used to charge the battery is included with your dev ice.
Getting Started 9 2. Plug the flat end of the T ravel Charger into the Charger/ Accessory Interface connec tor on the device (1) and the other end into a standard A C wall outlet.
10 Y our Google Account Y o ur new device uses your Goog le account to fully uti lize its Android features, including Gmail, Ma ps, Navigatio n, Google T alk and the Android Market. When you turn on your device for the first time, set up a connection wi th your existing Google account or create a new Googl e account.

12 T roubleshooting If your device has fatal errors , hangs up, or freezes, you may need to c lose all programs o r reset the device to regain functionalit y . • If your device is still res ponsive, but a program is frozen, c lose the program using the T ask Manager .

16 Home Screen The Home screen is the starting point for using your device. Note: Unless stated otherwise, instructions in this User Manual start with the device unlocked, at the Home screen. 1. Status Bar : Presents icons to show notifications, battery power , and connectio n details.
Understanding Y our Device 17 Extended Home Scree n The Home screen consi sts of the Home pane l, plus six panels that extend beyond the display width to provide more space for adding shortcuts, widgets, and folders. Slide your finger horizont ally across the screen to scroll to the left or right side panels.

Understanding Y our Device 19 Pinch Use two fingers, such as your index finger and thumb, to ma ke an inward pinch motion o n the screen, as if you are pi cking something up, or an outward motion by s weeping your fingers out. Fo r example: • Pinch the Home screen to show customization options.
20 • Auto rotation : T ouch to ena ble or disable auto rotation. When enabled, the screen orientation changes when you rotate the devic e. When disabled, the screen locks in the c urrent orientation (horizontal or vertical) and the orientation does not chan ge when you rotate the device.
Understanding Y our Device 21 Google T alk Invitation : Someone has i nvi ted you to chat using Google T alk. Refresh : An account is being refreshed. Alarm Set : An alarm is active. For more information, refer to “Clock” on page 91. Silent Mode : All sounds except media and alarms are silenced, and Vibrate mo de is not active.

26 Applications The Applications screen holds all a pplications on your wireless device. Applications th at you do wnload and install from the Android Market or from the web a re also added to the Applications screen. Y o u can place shortcuts to applic ations on the Home screen for quick access to the appl ication.

Downloads : Files, apps, and othe r items you download in Browser , Gmail, Email, or in other ways, are stored on your tablet’ s internal stora ge.
28 Mini Diar y : Record daily happeni ngs. Also available a s an Android Widget, Days. For more information, refer to “Mini Diary” on page 98. Music : Play music stored on an optio nal installed memory card. By def ault, a shortcut to Music appears on each Home screen as a Primary Shortc ut.
Understanding Y our Device 29 ThinkFree Office : Provides access to a Micr osoft ® Office-compatibl e applications suite. It also provides a centralized loca tion for the management of your online and of fline files. Fo r more information, refer to “ThinkFree Office” on page 102.
30 Section 3: Entering T ext This section describes how to ente r words, letters, punctuation and numbers when you need to enter text. Vir tual QWERTY K eyboar d Y o ur device uses a virtual QWERTY keyboard for text entry . Use the keyboard to enter letters, punctuation, numbers, and other characters into te xt entry fields or applications.
Entering T ext 31 For more information, refer to “Language and Keyboard” on page 119. Entering T e xt Using Swype Swype™ is a ne w way to enter text on touch scree ns. Instead of touching each key, use your finger to trace over each letter of a word.
32 • Accented characters : Just glide through the letters of the w ord. Swype usually recognizes the word and c orrectly accents the letters. • Error correction : If you make a mistake, doub le-tap on the word you want to change. Configuring Swype Configure Swype to your preferences.
Entering T ext 33 Editing K eyboard The Editing Keyboard provides a quick way to move the cursor and highlight text. If the application in which you are working supports editing, you can cut, co py , or paste hi gh lighted text. T o disp lay the Editing Keyb oard: 1.
34 Entering Upper and Low er Case Letter s The default case is lower case (a bc). Enter upper and lower case alphabet letters by touching th e Shif t key to toggle th e case, before touching the letter key(s).
Entering T ext 35 5. Continue typing your message. XT9 mode can be used in portrait or landscape mode. Editing T e xt Y ou can edit the text you enter in text fields by cutting, copying, or pasting text. These operations can be performed within and across apps.

44 Sending a Namecard (vCard) Y o u can send contact na mecards as vCards by way of B luetooth to other Bluetoot h devices or in an Email or Gma il as an attachment. Note: Not all Bluetooth devices accept contacts and not all devices support transfers of multiple contacts.

76 Camcorder Use your device’ s built-in Camcorder to record high-definition video in 720p resolution. 1. From the Home screen, touch Came ra . 2. T ouch the Mode icon to switch from the Camera to the Camcorder . Important!: Do not take videos of people without their permission.
