Replace string head if cracked, chipped, or damaged in any way . Be sure the string head or blade is properly installed and securely fastened.

10 ASSEMBL Y UNP ACKING This product r equir es assembly . Carefully remove the tool and any accessories from the box. Make sure that all items listed in the packing list are included. Inspect the tool carefully to make sur e no br eakage or damage occurred during shipping.
11 INST ALLING THE POWER HEAD TO THE A TT ACHMENT See Figure 2. WARNING: Never install, remove, or adjust any attachment while power head is running. Failure to stop the engine can cause serious personal injury . The attachment connects to the power head by means of a coupler device.
12 A TT ACHING THE FRONT HANDLE - CS30 AND SS30 See Figure 4. Remove wing nut, washer , and bolt from the front handle. Install the front handle onto the top side of the drive shaft housing in the area indicated by the label. NOTE: The open side of the handle should face the operator .
13 A TT ACHING THE GRASS DEFLECTOR WARNING: The line cutting blade on the grass deflector is sharp. Avoid contact with the blade. Failure to avoid contact can result in serious personal injury . TO A TT ACH THE CURVED SHAFT GRASS DEFLECTOR - CS30 See Figure 6.

15 ASSEMBL Y REMOVING THE STRAIGHT SHAFT GRASS DEFLECTOR AND STRING HEAD See Figures 10 - 13. Align the slot in the flanged washer with the slot in the gear head. Remove the hex head bolt and string head assembly . Remove the arbor . Remove the flanged washer and retain it for the blade installation.
16 FUELING AND REFUELING THE TRIMMER FUEL MIXTURE This product is powered by a 2-cycle engine and requir es pr e-m ixin g g asol ine and 2-cycle lub ric ant. Pr e-mix unlead ed gasoline and 2-cycle engine lubricant in a clean 1 gallon container approved for gasoline.

18 WARNING: Always hold the string trimmer away from the body keep- ing clearance between the body and the product. Any con ta ct with the ho us ing or str in g t rim me r cu tt ing he ad can result in burns and/or other serious personal injury .
19 Inspect and clear the area of any hidden objects such as glass, rocks, concr ete, fencing, wire, wood, metal, etc. Never use blades near sidewalks, fencing, posts, build- ings or other immovable objects. Never use a blade after hitting a har d object without first inspecting it for damage.
20 OPERA TION ST ARTING AND STOPPING See Figures 21 - 23. T o start a cold engine: DO NOT squeeze the thr ottle trigger until the engine starts and runs. Lay the trimmer on a flat, bare surface. PRIME - Press the primer bulb 7 times. SET the start lever to the ST AR T position.
21 MAINTENANCE NOTE: Only use the knob to tighten the bolt. The use of other tools may allow overtightening of the bolt, which could damage the string head. NOTE: For the BC30, the gear head locking tool can be inserted thr ough the slot in the flanged washer and gear head to help hold the string head still.
22 MAINTENANCE Fig. 26 INST ALLING STRING IN REEL EASY STRING HEAD See Figures 26 - 27. Use .095 in. diameter monofilament string. Stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire. Cut one piece of string approximately 25 ft. in length.
23 INST ALLING STRING IN PRO CUT II STRING HEAD See Figure 29. Use monofilament string between .095 in. and .105 in. di- ameter . Use original manufacturer’ s replacement string for best performance. Stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire.
24 MAINTENANCE CLEANING AIR FIL TER SCREEN See Figures 30 - 31. For proper performance and long life, keep air filter screen clean. Remove the air filter cover by pushing down on the latch with your thumb while gently pulling on the cover . Brush the air filter screen lightly to clean.
