10 Getting Ready to Play T urning the Po wer On/O T urning the power on * 941 Once everything is properly connected (p. 8), be sure to follow the pr ocedure below to turn on their power . If you turn on equipment in the wrong order , you risk causing malfunction or equipment failure.
11 Pla ying the Drums Drum Kits and Instruments On the TD, the sound you hear when y ou strike each pad is called an “instrument. ” A “ drum kit ” is a set of sounds (instruments) assigned to the pads. Instrument Drum kit The illustration below show s the struc ture of a drum kit.
Playing the Drums 12 P er formanc e T echniques P ads (such as PDX-100/PDX-8/PDX -6) Head shot Hit only the head of the pad. Head Rim shot Strike the head and the rim of the pad simultaneously . A sound (rim sound) dierent than the head shot will be heard.
Playing the Drums 13 Hi-Hat ( C Y -5/VH-11) Open/Closed The hi-hat sound will change smoothly between open and closed depending on pressure applied to the hi-hat control pedal or a hi-hat stand . Foot closed and f oot splash sounds are possible. Bow shot Hit the striking sur face of the hi-hat.
Playing the Drums 14 Recor ding Y our P er formance ( QUICK REC ) The TD lets you easily record and play back y our own performance (QUICK REC). This is a conv enient way to repeatedly recor d yourself practicing and then play back to check your performance.
15 Q u i c k l y E d i t i n g a n I n s t r u m e n t ( Q U I C K E D I T ) The TD-15’ s QUICK EDIT func tion lets you make quick and easy adjustments to the sound of each instrument. 1 . Before you continue , selec t the drum kit that contains the instrument you wan t to edit.
16 About the MENU Screens There are eight menu scr eens that allow you to edit the drum kit. In the DRUM KIT screen, press the [MENU] button to acc ess the KIT MENU screen, from which you can jump to each edit screen. INST Change instruments, or adjust the over all volume of the drum k it (p.

26 P er forming Along with a Song The TD contains built-in-songs and phrases covering a variety of styles selected for enhancing your practice time. Y ou can play the drums while listening to one of these songs. If a USB ash drive is connected, you can play the drums while listening to one of your fav orite songs from the USB ash drive.

31 P rac ticing in Coach Mode The TD’ s Coach mode is a unique set of exercises specically designed to help build speed, accur ac y and stamina, as well as develop better timing skills. Throughout the Coach modes , you will discover that some of them have prog rammable parameters, allowing you to adapt the functions to your specic needs.

Practicing in Coach Mode 33 Step 1: Change-Up In this step, the rhythm type will change every two measures. Starting from half notes, the note values will gradually become shorter , and will then return to half notes; this change in rhythms will be repeated .
