The term “power tool” in all of the warnings listed below r efers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.
4 When servicing a power tool, use only identical replacement parts. Follow instructions in the Maintenance section of this manual. U s e o f unauthorized parts or failure to follow Maintenance instructions may create a risk of shock or injury.

7 DOUBLE INSULA TION Double insulation is a concept in safety in electric power tools, which eliminates the need for the usual three-wire grounded power cor d. All exposed metal parts ar e isolated from the inter nal metal motor components with protecting i n s u l a t i o n .

9 KNOW YOUR BEL T SANDER See Figure 1. The safe use of this product requir es an understanding of the information on the tool and in this operator’ s manual as wel l as a kno wle dge of the pro jec t you ar e attem pting . Bef ore use of this product, familiarize yourself with all operating features and safety rules.
10 WARNING: Do not allow familiarity with products to make you careless. Remember that a careless fraction of a second is sufficient to inflict serious injury . WARNING: Always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields when operating power tools.
11 V ARIABLE SPEED CONTROL DIAL See Figure 2. The sander has a variable speed control dial, A (slowest) to F (fastest) , designed to allow operator control of belt speed. T o increase belt speed, turn the variable speed control dial to a higher setting.
12 TO INST ALL/CHANGE SANDING BEL T See Figures 5 - 6. Unplug the sander . Position sander as shown. WARNING: Keep hands and fingers clear of front roller and spring mechanism at all times. Failure to do so could result in fingers getting pinched, causing possible serious injury .
13 LOCKING ON THE SANDER See Figure 7. The lock-on feature allows you to lock the switch trigger in the ON position. Locking the switch trigger on allows you to operate the sander for extended periods of time.
14 WARNING: Do not use the dust collection bag when sanding metal . Using the dust collectio n bag when sandi ng metal creates a fire hazard, which could damage the tool and lead to serious personal injury . DUST BAG See Figure 9. The dust bag provides a dust collection system for the sander .
15 MANUALL Y ADJUSTING SANDING BEL T TRACKING See Figure 11. This sander featur es an automatic tracking system designe d to keep the san din g belt cent er ed. If edg e sandi ng is desir ed, manual adjustment of the belt will be necessary . T o manually adjust belt position: Connect the sander to power supply.
16 MAINTENANCE WARNING: When servicing use only identical RIDGID ® replacement parts. Use of any other parts may create a hazar d or cause product damage. WARNING: Always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields during power tool operation or when blowing dust.
17 TIMING BEL T REPLACEMENT See Figure 13 . Unplug the sander. Remove dust bag. Remove sanding belt from sander. Follow instructio ns on page 12 to remove sanding belt. NOTE: Removing sanding belt will simplify the process of installing a new timing belt.
