5 SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES NEVER hand hold a workpiece that is too small to be clamped. Keep hands clear of the cutting area. NEVER reach behind, under , or within three inches of the blade and its cutting path with your hands and fingers for any reason.

7 SYMBOLS SYMBOL SIGNAL MEANING SERVICE Servicing requires extreme care and knowledge and should be performed only by a qualified service technician. For service we suggest you return the product to your nearest AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER for repair . When servic- ing, use only identical replacement parts.
8 DOUBLE INSULA TION Double insulation is a concept in safety in electric power tools, which eliminates the need for the usual three-wire grounded power cord. All exposed metal parts are isolated from the inter nal metal motor components with protect- ing ins ulation.

15 ASSEMBL Y UNP ACKING This product r equires assembly . Carefully lift saw from the carton by the carrying handle and the saw base, and place it on a level work surface. NOTE: This tool is heavy . T o avoid back injury , lift with your legs, not your back, and get help when needed.
16 ASSEMBL Y Fig. 9 NOTE: Many of the illustrations in this manual show only portions of the compound miter saw . This is intentional so that we can clearly show points being made in the illustrations. Never operate the saw without all guards securely in place and in good operating condition.
17 ASSEMBL Y Fig. 11 INST ALLING THE DUST BAG See Figure 11. Squeeze the metal clips on the dust bag, then slide the metal ring over the end of the dust guide. Position the metal ring so it is between the two molded rings on the dust guide. Release the dust bag clips.
18 18 WARNING: Make sure the spindle lock button is not engaged before reconnecting saw to power sour ce. Never engage spindle lock button when blade is rotat- ing. INST ALLING / REPLACING THE BLADE See Figure 13. WARNING: A 12 in. blade is the maximum blade capacity of the saw .
19 19 ASSEMBL Y MOUNTING THE EXACTLINE ™ LASER GUIDE See Figure 14. Unplug the saw . Remove hex bolt, washer , and outer blade washer . Store for future use. Make sure inner blade washer is in p lace befor e positioning saw blade on the spindle of the saw .
20 ASSEMBL Y REMOVING / REPLACING THE ZERO CLEAR- ANCE THROA T PLA TE See Figure 16. When squaring the saw blade, it may be necessary to move the throat plate away fr om the blade. Once the saw’ s alignment has been confirmed, return the throat plate to its original position.

23 ASSEMBL Y ADJUSTING THE BEVEL LOCK LEVER See Figures 25 - 26. Prior to squaring the saw blade to the miter table, check and align the bevel lock lever . The blade must be set at an “unindexed” bevel position other than 0 ° , 22.5 ° , 33.9 ° , and 45 ° to test.

Lift the miter lock lever . Rotate the miter table until the pointer on the miter scale is positioned at 0 ° .
25 OPERA TION WARNING: Do not allow familiarity with tools to make you careless. Remember that a careless fraction of a second is sufficient to inflict sever e injury . WARNING: Always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields when operating tools.
26 OPERA TION WARNING: Never make a cut by pulling the saw towar d you as the blade can climb on top of the workpiece and come towar d you. Failur e to heed this warning could result in serious personal injury . TO SLIDE CUT See Figures 32 - 33. The sliding feature will cut workpieces 13-1/2 in.

28 ® TO BEVEL CUT See Figures 36 - 38. A bev el c ut i s ma de b y cut ti ng a cro ss t he gra in o f the workp iece with the blade angled to the workpie ce. A straight bevel cut is made with the miter table set at the zero degree position and the blade set at an angle.
29 2 2 . 5 3 1 . 6 TO COMPOUND MITER CUT See Figure 39. A compound miter cut is a cut made using a miter angle and a bevel angle at the same time. This type of cut is used to make picture frames, cut molding, make boxes with sloping sides, and for certain roof framing cuts.
30 ® SUPPORTING LONG WORKPIECES See Figures 40 - 41. Long workpieces need extra supports. Supports should be placed along the workpiece so it does not sag. The support should let the workpiece lay flat on the base of the saw and miter table during the cutting operation.
31 OPERA TION ROUGH CUTTING A DADO See Figures 43 - 44. Using a wood chisel and the depth guide, it is possible to make a rough dado cut. The marks on the depth guide are to be used for reference only . Always make a practice cut on scrap wood. T o make the cut: Unlock the slide lock knob.
32 CUTTING COMPOUND MITERS T o aid in making the correct settings, the compound angle setting chart below has been pro vided. Since compound cuts are the most difficult to accurately obtain, trial cuts should be made in scrap material, and much thought and planning made, prior to making your requir ed cut.
33 When cuttin g cr own molding by thi s meth od, the beve l angle should be set at 33.85 ° . The miter angle should be set at 31.6 ° either right or left, depending on the desired cut for the application. See the chart below for correct angle settings and correct positioning of cr own molding on miter table.
34 OPERA TION MAKING A CROWN MOLDING SUPPOR T JIG See Figure 47. A crown molding support jig will need to be made when cutting crown molding with no required bevel setting. The suppo rt ji g hol ds th e crown m oldin g in place d uring the cutting operation.
35 CUTTING WARPED MA TERIAL See Figures 48 - 49. When cutting warped material, always make sure it is positioned on the miter table with the convex side against the fence as shown in figure 48. If the warped materia l is position ed the wr ong way as shown in figure 49, it will pinch the blade near the completion of the cut.
36 ® BRUSH REPLACEMENT See Figure 50. The saw has exter nally accessible brush assemblies that should be periodically checked for wear . Proceed as follows when r eplacement is requir ed: Unplug the saw . WARNING: Failure to unplug the saw could result in accidental starting causing serious injury .
37 MAINTENANCE CHANGING THE BA TTERIES See Figure 52. Unplug the saw . WARNING: Failur e to unplug the saw could result in accidental starting causing possible serious personal injury . Remove the laser guide from the saw . Lay laser guide on a flat surface with the two phillips scr ews facing upward.
