ABOUT YOUR WATER HEATER 5 HOTTER W ATER INCRE ASES THE RISK OF SC ALD INJURY W e recommend, and it may also be required by regulatio ns, that an approved temperature limiting device, such as the Rheem Temp-Set, be fitted into the hot water piping to th e bathroom and ens uite when this water he ater is installed.
ABOUT YOUR WATER HEATER 6 · · TO TURN ON THE WATER HE ATER · Open the cold water isolatio n valve full y at the inlet to t he wate r heater. · If the solar collectors and solar hot a nd cold pipes h ave been drained, it will be necessary to blee d the coll ector circuit (r efer to “Blee ding the Solar Collectors” on page 7).
ABOUT YOUR WATER HEATER 7 ANODE PROTECTI ON The anode installe d in your water heater will slowly dissipate whilst protecti ng the cylinder. The life of the water heat er cylinder may be extende d by arranging for an authorised person to inspect t he anode an d replacing it i f requir ed.
ABOUT YOUR WATER HEATER 8 FLUSHING THE SO LAR COLLECT ORS It may be necessary to flush the sola r collectors if there is s ediment in the water supply.
REGULAR CARE 9 TEMPER ATURE AND PRESSURE RELIEF V ALVE This valve is near th e top of the water h eater and is essential for its s afe operat ion. It is possible for the valve to release a little water through th e drain pipe during each h eating period.

SAVE A SERVICE CALL 16 · · · · TEMPER ATURE AND PRESSURE RELIEF V ALVE RUNNING Normal Operation It is normal and desirable t his valve allows a small qu antity of water t o escape during t he hea ting c ycle. However, if it discharges mor e than a bucket full of water in 24 hours, ther e may be another pr oblem.

INSTALL ATION – SOLAR STORAGE TANK 18 The system is su itable for i nstallation, and offers prot ection ag ainst freeze dam age, in areas up to 80 0 metres altitude. T he s ystem has NO W ARRANTY for freez e damage above 80 0 metres a ltitude (refer to “W arranty” on page 40).
INSTALL ATION – SOLAR STORAGE TANK 19 SAFE TRAY It is a requireme nt of the N ational Pl umbing Code AS/NZS 3500.4.2 that for new installations all water heat ers be i nstalled in a safe tray where in the e vent of a leak, property ma y be damaged. Installation of such trays must compl y with Clause 4.
INSTALL ATION – SOLAR STORAGE TANK 20 REDUCING HE AT LOSSES We recommend the first 1.5 to 2 m of the hot water line coming out of the water heater be insulated with weatherpro of insulation. In additi on, the insulati on of the hot water line from the water hea ter must compl y with the requirement s of AS/NZS 3400.

INSTALL ATION – SOLAR CONT ROL UNIT 24 The solar contr ol uni t is desig ned to be mounted o n the side of the solar storage tank, with its locatio n above and of fset from the c old water inlet. T he solar contr ol unit, supplied with a 1.8 metre power cord, requires a 22 0 – 240 V general powe r outlet (GPO) locate d within 1.

CONNECTIONS - EL ECTRICAL 33 MANUAL CONTROLS A manual switch ca n be installed in the power supply circui t to the solar storage tank. The on/off booster s witch can be installed with a single element.
COMMISSIONING 34 TO FILL AND TURN ON THE W ATER HE ATER The power suppl y to the solar st orage tank a nd solar con trol unit must not be switched on until th e water heater is filled with water and a satisfact ory megger reading is obtaine d. Open all of the hot water taps i n the hous e (don’t for get the sh ower).
COMMISSIONING 35 TO TURN OFF THE WATER HE ATER If it is necessar y to turn off the water hea ter on completio n of the installation , such as on a building sit e or where the premis es is vacant, th en: · Close the cold water isolatio n valve at the inlet to the water heater.
