It receiv es X-, K-, and Ka-band radar signals and also detects both the instant-on and laser systems many police depar tments use to measure vehicle speed.

7 INSTALLATION MOUNTING GUIDELINES F ollow these guidelines when selecting a loca tion. • Choose a location that does not block the driver’ s view of the road. • Mount the detector in a lev el position with a clear view to both the front and rear .
8 HOOK-AND-LOOP T APE MOUNTING F or some dashboards, the hook-and-loop tape included with your detector might be best f or mounting. F ollo w these steps to use the hook-and-loop tape. 1. Use a damp cloth to clean the bottom of the detector an d the dashboard.
9 WINDSHIELD MOUNTING The supplied suction-cup windshi eld brac ket lets y ou easily mount the detector on the windshield. Caution: Do not use the bra ck et in a v ehicle that has a plastic coating on the windshield de signe d to protect passengers dur- ing an accident.

11 CONNECTING P O WER Caution: • Use only the supplied power cord. If your po wer cord is lost or damaged, you can order a replacement cord from your local RadioShack store.
12 OPERATION T URNING THE DETECTOR ON AND OFF T o tur n on the detector , tur n PWR / VO L clockwise . The detector sounds a distinctive aler t and displays the indica- tors f or each aler t type as a self test, in this order : T o tur n off the detector , turn PWR / VO L counterclockwise .
13 MUTING ALER TS While a radar , laser , or safety w ar ning aler t is sou nding, you can press MUTE to tempora rily silence the detect or f or the cur- rent aler t and any new aler t that it receives within 20 seconds. Visual aler ts are not affected.
14 T o select the CITY mode, press CITY once. The detector dis- pla ys CITY . If the detecto r receiv es a weak speed/saf ety radar signal in the CITY mode, it beeps twice, then remains quiet unless the signal b ecomes v er y strong. If the signal strength increases, the detector again beeps twice.
15 SETTING THE V G-2 OPTION V G-2 is a system used b y some law enf orcement agencies to detect the use of radar detectors in ve hicles . The V G-2 system detects the weak radio signals used in radar detectors.
16 Safety Radar Alerts Y our radar detector de tects all safety radar including the new Saf ety W a rning System. This system provides adv anced warn- ing of hazards and l ets you respond appropriately to potentially dangerous conditions. Note: Not all areas have Safety W ar ning System transmitters.

19 Laser A udio/Visual Aler ts When your r adar detector detects a laser signal from ahead or behind, the laser audio sounds an d the radar detector displa ys LASER f or as long as the signal is prese nt (f or a mini mum of 3 seconds).
20 USING ST A Y ALERT Sta y Aler t h elps you test y our aler tness behi nd the wheel by sounding beeps an d asking if you are aler t. Wa r n i n g : Stay Aler t is not intended as a substitute for ade- quate rest. Y o u should not operate a motor vehicle if y ou ar e drowsy .
21 T ROUB L ESHOOTING If you ha ve prob lems operating your radar/laser detector , the suggestions in this sectio n might help . If you cannot solv e the problem after trying th ese suggestions, tak e your detector to your local RadioShack store for assistance .
22 If the detector gives a false aler t when you use accesso- ries such as power windo ws, motoriz ed mirr ors, brakes, and so on: • Check the v ehicle’ s electrical system, including th e main batter y cable and alter na tor connections. • Install a filter capacitor (1,000 µ f , 35 volts , such as Cat.
23 REPLACING THE FUSE If the detector stops operating, check the fuse in the DC po w e r cord’ s cigarette-lighter pl ug. If it has b lown, follo w these steps to replace it with a 2-Amp, 1 1 / 4 × 1 / 4 mm, f a st-acting fuse (Cat. No . 270-1007).
