H owever, each device, such as a telephone or answering machi ne t hat you conne c t to the telep hone line, draws power from the telephone line.

6 IN STALLATI ON SELECTING A L O CATION You can p l ace the pho ne on a desk t op or table, m ount i t on a standard wa ll plate, or mount it directly on a wall.
7 3. Route the adapter ’ s cord through the strain relief slot on top of t he base . 4. Plug the adapter into a standard AC outle t . 5. Plug the modular c ord’ s other end into a modular phone line jack. 6. Fully exten d the base’s antenna and place it in a vertical position.
8 3. Route the modular cord through the top groove and the adapter cord through both grooves on t he bottom of the base. 4. Plug the adapter into a standard AC outlet. 5. Plug the short modul ar cord’s other end int o the wall plate jack , then align the bas e’ s keyhole slots with the wall plate studs and slide the base downw ard to secure it.

D rill two holes 3 15 / 16 inches apar t . Then thread a screw int o each hol e, lett ing the heads ext end about 5 / 16 inc h fro m th e wa ll.
10 6. Plug the modular cord’s ot her end into a modular ph one line jack . 7. Align the keyhole slots with the mounting sc r ew s and slide t he base downward to secure i t. 8. Press and lif t o ut the handset holder . Rot ate it 180° , then sn ap i t back into pl ace so it hold s the hand- set .
11 4. Replace the cover. To charge th e batt ery pack, simply place the handset on the base. The CHARGE / IN USE indicator on the base lights. Recha r g e t he battery when t he T ALK/ BATT LOW indicator on the h andset flashes.
12 • I f t he bat tery pa ck get s completel y discharged or the base loses power while the handset is away from it, the security access-protection code needs to be reset. T o reset t he secu- rity code, place the hand s et on the base. I f it was the handset that l ost power , l eave the ha ndset on the base t o charge t he ba t t ery pack.
13 3. Repeat edl y press RINGER un t il y o u hear the desired ri nger tone and vol - ume. Each ti me you press RINGER , th e ringer changes i n the f ol lowi ng order: High-volume “chirping” Low-volume “chirping” High-volume “warbling” Low-volume “warbling” 43-1 053.
14 OPE RATION MAKING AN D RECEIVING CALLS To make or answer a call, lift the hand- set. Or, if the handset is off t he cradle, press TA L K . The TAL K/BATT LOW i ndi- cator on t he hands et and th e CHA RGE/ IN USE indicator on the base l i ght. To end a call, place the han dset on the cradle or press TA L K .
15 USIN G REDIAL REDIAL lets you qu ick l y dial the last num- ber dialed. When you hear a dial to ne, simpl y press REDIAL . Notes: • The redial memory holds up to 32 digits, s o you can redial l ong-dis- tance as well as local num bers. • The redia l memory also holds pau se entries.
16 5. Af ter yo u compl ete the c all, r eturn the handset to the cradle or press TA L K . The ph one automatically resets to the pulse mode. PAGING To page the person who has the handset or to locate the hand set when the phone is not in use, hol d down PA G E on t he base for at l e ast 2 seconds.
17 5. For e ach stored number , write the person ’ s or compan y’ s name ne xt to the ap propri ate loca t io n number on the supplied memory directory sticker . (Use a penc i l in case you want to c hange the num ber later .) Then at t ac h the stic ker to the phone.
18 T ROUBLESHOOTING We do not expect you t o have an y probl ems with your p hone, but if y ou d o, t he foll ow- ing suggestions might help. Proble m Sugg estion Low volume or unusual sounds. Som eone has pick ed up ano t he r phone on the same l ine.

21 REPLACING T HE BATTE RY PACK If you follow the instructions in “ Connect- ing and Chargin g t he Batte r y P ack” on Page 10, the battery pack should last about one year. If the battery pack will not ho ld a charge for more than 2 h ours after an overnight ch arge, repl ace the battery pack with a new 3.
