4 Features ˆ Features Your RadioShack 900 MHz Digital Cordl ess Telephone with Caller ID and Call Waiting offe rs the latest a dvances in cordless phone technology. It combines a cordless phone and a Caller ID unit in one system. It saves up to 50 Caller ID records that you can review and call back.
5 Features Display — lets you see phone nu mbers as you dial them or re- call them from the cordless phone memory and Caller ID records. 20-Number Memory Dialing — lets you store up to 20 num- bers in memory for easy dialing. Auto Scan — automatically selects a clear channel when you pick up the phone.
6 Features IMPORTANT CALLER ID INFORMATION To use the System’s Caller ID features, you must be in an area where Caller ID service is available a nd you must subscribe to that service.
7 Features READ THIS BEFORE INSTALLATION We have designed your telephone to conform to federa l regula- tions, and you can connect it to most telephone lines. However, each device that you connect to the phone lin e draws power from the phone line. We refer to this power draw as the device’s ringer equivalence numbe r, or REN.
8 Installation ˆ Installation SELECTING A LOCATION Select a location for the telephone that is: • near an AC outl et • near a telephone line jack • out of the way of normal activities • away .
9 Installation CONNECTING THE PHONE Follow these steps to set up and connect the base. 1. Plug one end of the supplied modular cord i nto the TEL. LINE jack on the bottom of the base. 2. Plug the supplied AC adapter ’s L-shape barrel plug into the 9V DC jack on the bottom of the base.
10 Preparation Cautions: Y ou must use a Class 2 power source that sup- plies 9V DC and delivers at leas t 300mA. Its ce n- ter tip must be set to positive a nd i ts plug must fit the phone's 9V DC jack. The supplied ad apter meets these specifications.
11 Preparation Note: If the belt clip is attached to the handset, remove it before sliding open the battery compartment cover. To charge the battery pack, place the ha ndset on the base. The CHARGING/IN USE indica- tor on the base lights red. Let the battery pack charge for about 16 h ours.
12 Preparation • The CHARGING/IN USE indicator still li ghts even when a battery pack is not installed in the b attery compartment. Make sure the battery is installed befo re using the phone. • T o avoid damage to the battery pack, always recharge the handset before ba ttery power grows too weak for LOW BATTERY to appear on the display .
13 Preparation When a spare battery pack is installed in the base, the SPARE BATTERY indicator lights red and the b atte ry pack is automati- cally charged. The spare ba ttery pack re- quires about 48 hours to fully charge. When the spare battery is used during a power failure, the POWER indicato r flash- es.
14 Setting Up the Phone ˆ Setting Up the Phone SETUP MENU The setup menu has four categories: Chang ing the Ringer Type, Setting the Ring er Volume, Setting the Dialing Mode, an d Setting the Keyclick.
15 Setting Up the Phone 5. Press 9 9 9 9 or 8 8 8 8 to sc ro ll fr om RING TYPE 1 through OFF . The phone sounds the ring typ e when it appears on the dis- play . 6. Press OK and a tone sounds to in dicate you successfully set the selected ringer tone.
16 Setting Up the Phone Setting the Dialing Mode 1. Press OFF on the handset. 2. Press OK on the handset to display the categories. 3. Press 9 9 9 9 or 8 8 8 8 on the handset until SETUP MODE appears, then press OK . 4. Press 9 9 9 9 or 8 8 8 8 on the hand set until SET DIAL TYPE appears, then press OK .
17 Operation 3. Press 9 9 9 9 or 8 8 8 8 on the handset until SETUP MODE appears, then press OK . 4. Press 9 9 9 9 or 8 8 8 8 on the han dset until SET KEYCLICK appears, then press OK . 5. Press 9 9 9 9 or 8 8 8 8 and KEYCLICK ON or KEYCLICK OFF (silences the tones you hear whe n you press the keys on the handset) appears.
18 Operation To end a call, place the handset on the ba se or press OFF on the handset. To answer a call, press any key on the handset. Notes: • After you press T ALK/FLA SH , # cannot be used to insert a pause. It is effective in pre-dial and memory dialing only .
19 Operation 1. T o redial a number , press OFF then press OK . REDIAL MEMORY appears. 2. Press OK then press 9 9 9 9 or 8 8 8 8 to select the desi red stored number from R1 to R5. 3. Press T ALK/F LASH . The phone dials the stored number and the handset shows the number dialed.
20 Operation USING FLASH Press T ALK/FLASH to perform the switchhook o peration for spe- cial services, such as Call Waiting. For example, if you h ave Call Waiting, press T ALK/FLASH to take an incoming cal l without disconnecting the curre nt call. Press T ALK/FLASH again to return to the first call.
21 Operation USING T ONE SERVICES ON A PULSE LINE If you have pulse se rvice, you can stil l use special se rvi ces that require tone signals, such as bank-b y-phone, by following the se steps. 1. Be sure the dial type is set to pulse. 2. Dial the service’s main number .
22 Operation Notes: • If the dial type is set to DIAL TYPE PULSE and you want to use tone dialing for a memory number , you must sto re the tone entry ( DIAL TYPE TONE ) as the first entry of the number you want to tone dial.
23 Operation 6. If you want to stor e another phone number , start from Step 1. Notes: • T o change a number stored in me mory , store a new num- ber in that memory location. • If you make a mistake while programming th e memory , press OFF to e xit then select again.
24 Operation Reviewing Numbers Stored in Memo ry 1. Press OK on the handset then press 9 9 9 9 or 8 8 8 8 until SPEED DIAL MEMORY appears. 2. Press OK on the handset. SPEED DIAL LOCATION_ _ appears. 3. Enter the memory location number on the keypad (01, 02, 03, and so on) to display the stored number .
25 Operation 2. Press OK on the handset. 3. Press 9 9 9 9 or 8 8 8 8 on the handset until SPEED DIAL MEM- ORY appears. 4. Press OK . SPEED DIAL LOCATION _ _ appears on the display . 5. Enter the memory location number for the memory number you want to delete, or search through all numbers by press- ing or holding and until the number displays.
26 Operation When calling special services, dial the service’s main number first. Then, at the appropriate place i n the call, press OK on the handset until SPEED DIAL MEMORY appears, press OK to confirm, and then the memory lo cation numbe r for the addition- al information.
27 Operation MICROPHONE MUTED The incoming and outgoing audio is muted. Press T ALK/FLASH to resume the call, or press OFF , or place the handset in the cradle to end the call. BASE PAGING HAND- SET Displays when you press PA G E on the base. Press any key on the hand- set to stop page.
28 Operation CALLER ID OPERATION If you subscribe to Caller ID se rvice from you r phone co mpany, the system automatically displays information about calls you receive and stor es the information in Caller ID memo ry. The system can store up to 50 number records (the most recent is 01), then replaces the oldest call with each new one.
29 Operation CALL W AITING If you subscribe to Call Waiting and a call comes in while you are on the phone, you will h ear a tone that indica tes you have another call. The system displays the Caller ID Call Waiting in- formation for ab out 10 seconds, and the NEW CALL indicator flashes on the base.
30 Operation REVIEWING CALLER ID RECORDS Each time you receive a call, your system stores a Caller ID record that you can review later, even durin g a call. There are 50 calls in Caller ID memory: the oldest call displays as #50 and the most recent call displays as #01 .
31 Operation 5. T o view the date and time of the ca ll, press and hold 7 . T ime, month, and date appear on the first line, and the Caller ID numb er appears on the second line. Notes: • The handset display shows the first 1 1 characte rs of the caller ’ s name and last 12 di gits of a phone n umber .
32 Operation Note: If the telephone company sends a 7-digit cal ler phone number , pressin g 2 will dial the 7-digit numb er only . Press 3 to dial the long distance prefix and l ocal phone number . Press 4 to dial the local phone number . Note: The system cannot dial a number if the Caller ID record consists of a name only.
33 Operation • If you do not want to delete the record, press OF F to exit. CLEAR ALL MEMORY You can delete all Caller ID records, or spe ed dial memory loca- tions at once. Note: You cannot delete any record or memory duri ng a call. Follow these steps to delete all records or memo ri es.
34 Troubleshooting ˆ T roubleshooting We do not expect you to have any problem with your telephone, but if you do, the follow ing suggestions might help. If you still have problems, check the other phones on the same line to se e if they work properl y.
35 Troubleshooting Call is noisy . Do not place the base near app li- ances or large metal objects. Keep the handset away from interfer- ence sources such as computers, remote control toys, wireless mi cro- phones, wireless alarm systems, wire- less intercoms and room monitors, fluorescent lights, and electrical appli- ances.
36 Care ˆ Care To enjoy your phone for a long time: • Keep the phone dry . If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately . • Use and store the phone only in normal temperature envi- ronments. • Handle the phone gently and carefull y . Don’t drop it.
37 Care Follow these steps to install the new battery pack, then charge it for about 15–16 hou rs (see “Connectin g and Charging th e Bat- tery Pack” on Page 10). 1. Slide off the battery compartment cover and remove the battery pack. 2. Insert the new ba ttery pack in the compartment and replace the compartment cover .
38 Care Also, the phone company can make changes to its line s, equip- ment, operations, or procedures that could affect the operation of the phone. The phone company notifies you of these chang- es in advance, so you can take the necessary steps to prevent interruption of your p hone service.
