5 INSTALLATION BEF ORE Y OU BEGIN THE INSTALLATION Before you in stall your ste reo, read all the instructions in this owner’s ma nual. You should be able to answer these questions about your vehicl.
6 Using an Adapter Harness If you are re placing an existing stereo, or if your vehicle has bee n f a c t o r y - w i r e d for autosound co mponents, you can use a n adapter harne ss to connect t he power and speakers. RadioShack stores sell adapter harnesses for most vehicles.
7 The supplied wiring harness with its 14- pin connector includes all the lead wire s you need to con nect the stereo to ground, po wer, some opti onal compo- nents, and speakers. Important : Do not cut these wires. If you cut any wire, you cann ot obta in a re- fund or exchange on this pr oduct.
8 Connecting G r ound, P o we r , and Optional Components Follow these steps to connect the wiring harness to gr ound, power, clock memor y, and optional compon ents. Ground (–) (To Chassi s Ground) + 12V To Ignition Amp Remote Turn On 500mA Max (To Option al Equipmen t) +12V To Battery Power Wires Black Red Blue/White Yellow 14-Pin Connector 1 .
9 Connecting T wo P airs of Speaker s If you are using bo th fro nt an d r ear speaker s, f ollo w these st eps t o co nne ct the wirin g harness to the speakers. 1. Connect the gr a y wire to the right front speak er’ s positiv e term inal. This terminal is usually marked with a plu s (+) sign or red mark.
10 Connecting One P air of Speakers If you are us ing only one pair of speakers, follow th ese steps to connect the wiring har- ness to the speakers. 1. Connect the violet wire t o the right speaker’ s positiv e ter minal. This ter minal is usually mar ked with a plus ( +) sign or red mar k.
11 Connecting the Antenna Connect the vehicle’s antenna cable to the stereo’s antenna socket. Completing the Connections After you have securely made all connec- tions, plug the wiring harness’ connector into the stereo’s 14-pin wiring socket.
12 MOUNTING THE STEREO Once you verify that the stereo is con- nected properly, follo w these steps to mount the stere o. 1. Disconne ct the cable from th e vehi- cle’ s ne gative (–) batter y ter m inal. 2. Disconnect the wiring harness and the antenna .
13 8. Slide the stereo into the slee ve until it locks into place . If y ou are secu ring the stereo in an e xisting moun ting hole in the dash, push the mounting bo lt cov ered with the ru bber mounting grommet through the e xisting mounting hole and make sure it is secure .
14 11. Reconnect the cable to the vehicle' s negative (–) batter y ter minal. Note: Y ou will need to set the ste- reo' s clock a fter y ou reconnect the cable to the v ehicle' s batter y (s ee “Setting the Cloc k” on P age 16). REMO VING THE STEREO FR OM THE DASH Follow these steps to remove the st ereo from the da sh.
15 USING THE CONTR OL P ANEL The stereo’s co ntrol panel must be in place for the st ereo to operate. When you remove it , the st ereo do es no t work . This is a simple but effective security measure. Any stored stat ions remain in memo ry when the control panel is removed.
16 BASIC OPERATION SETTING THE CLOC K Note: You can set the clock only when the vehicle’s ignition is turned on or set to ACC. 1. Hold do wn F/C (F requency/C lock) until the hour digit(s) b link(s), then repe atedly press + or – until the correct hour appe ars.
17 Notes: • When y ou adjust t he balance t o w ard the left speakers (by pressing – ), L and the left balance le vel appea r (such as L5 ). When you adju st the balance toward the r ight spea kers (by pressing + ), R and the right bal- ance le v el appear (such as R3 ).
18 RADIO OPERATION PL A YING THE RADIO 1 . Press PWR to tu r n on th e stere o . 2 . Press B A N D to select the AM or FM band . AM 1 o r AM 2 appears when y ou select an A M b a nd .
19 • T o temporarily displa y the frequency of the station currently pla ying, press F/C . The displa y shows th e frequency f or about 5 seconds, then retur ns to the clock displa y . MEMORY T UNING You can manually stor e up to 12 AM an d 18 FM station s in memory gr oups.
20 2. Hold down AMS (automatic memor y scan) f or about 3 seconds . The ste - reo scans the selected band an d stores the first six stat ions it finds (star ting with the c urrently tun ed fre- quency). The frequency , memory group , and memor y location number appear f or each station as it is stored.
21 CASSETTE PLA YER OPERATION PLA YING A CASSETTE Caution: We recommend using C - 6 0 or C-90 cassette tapes. Avoid using C- 120 cassett e tapes. They are very thin and can easily become tangle d in the tape-handling par ts. Follow these ste ps to play a tape.
22 Caution: We recomme nd you press and eject the ta pe before you leave your vehicle. This r eleases the tape from the tape-handling pa rts and reduces th e possibility of a tape being tangled or damaged. 23 CARE AND MAINTENANCE THE FCC W ANTS Y OU TO KNOW Your stereo might cause TV or radio interf erence even when it is opera ting properly. To determine wh ether your stereo is cau sing the interference, turn off your stereo. If the interfer ence goes aw ay, your stereo is causing it.
24 CLEANING THE T APE- HANDLING P AR TS Clean the ta pe head after abou t every 20 hours of playing time. Inser t a special head-cleaning cassette (availa ble at your local RadioShack store), and follow the cleaning cassette’s d irections to clean the t ape head.
25 4. Reassemb le the fuse holder b y plac- ing the wire s and the fuse clips b ack inside the holder , then sq ueeze it together un til it snaps shu t. 5. Reconnect the cab le to the ve hicle batter y’ s negative (–) ter minal. 6. Reset y our stereo’ s cloc k and mem- or y settings.
