5 IN STALLATI ON SELECTI NG A LOCATION You can pl a ce the p hone’s bas e on a desk top or table, or m ount i t on a wal l. Select a location that is: • near an A C outlet • near a tele phone li.
6 3. Insert the supplie d AC adapter ’s barrel plug into t he DC IN 9V jack on the back of the b ase. 4. Route the a dapter ’s cord t hrough the strain relie f slot on the ba se (as shown) . 5. Plug the a dapter into a st andard AC outlet. The P O WER indicator on the base lights.
7 3. Insert the supplie d AC adapter ’s barrel plug into t he DC IN 9V jack on the back of the b ase. 4. Route the a dapter ’s cord t hrough the left side of the strain relief slot on top of the base and through the left slots at the bottom of the base.
8 2. Plug one end of the supplied long modular cord i nto the TEL LINE jack o n the back of the bas e. 3. Route the m odular cord t hrough the ri ght slots on the bottom of the base. 4. Insert the supplie d AC adapter ’s barrel plug into t he DC IN 9V jack on the back of the b ase.
9 8. Press and lift out the hands et holder , rotate it 180 °, then snap it back i nto plac e so it holds the handset. 9. Plug the a dapter into a st andard AC outlet. The P O WER indicator on the base lights. 10. Lift the b ase’ s antenn a to a verti- cal position.
10 Notes: • I f the CHARG E indicator doe s not light when you pla ce the h andset on the base, be sure the battery pack and AC ada pter are correctly and securely connec ted. Also, check t he charging contacts on the hand set and the bas e. If t he co nt a cts ar e dir ty or t ar n is he d, clean them with a penc il eraser .
11 SETTI NG T HE DIALING MO DE Set DIA L MODE on the back of the base for the type of service you have. If you are not sure wh ich type you hav e, do thi s t es t. 1. Set DIAL MODE to T . 2. Lift the handset and listen f or a dial tone. 3. Press any numb er other than 0 .
12 OPE RATION MAKING AN D RECEIVING CALLS To make o r answer a call, lift the han d- set. Or, if the handset is not in place on the ba se, press TA L K .
13 Notes: • The redial m emory holds up to 32 digits, so you can redial lon g- distance as well as local num bers. • The redial memory also holds pause entries. See “Entering a Pause ” on Page 15. • T he redial memory d oes not store a flash entry or an y digi ts you press a fter FLASH (see “Using F l ash” ).
14 PAGING To page t he person who has t he hand- set or to locate the handset when the phone is not i n u se, hold down PA G E on the base for at least 2 second s. The handset b eeps for 1 m inute. T o st op it from bee ping sooner, press TA L K on the handset twice.
15 Notes: • Each TO NE / or REDIAL/P entry uses one digit o f memory . • If you try to enter more than 16 digits, the ph one beeps 5 t imes and exits the programming mode.
16 Ch ain-D ialing S ervice Numbers For quick recall of numb ers for special services (such as alternate long dis- tance or bank by phone), store each group of numbers in its own memory location. To use the stored s pecial service infor- mation, dial the service’s main numb er first.
17 T ROUBLES HOOTING We do not expect you to h av e any problem s with y our phone, but if you d o, the fol- lowing sugg estions might help. Problem Sugg estion Low volume or unusua l sounds. Someon e has pic ked up another phone on the same li ne. H an g up the other phone.

20 REPLACING THE BATTERY PACK If you follow the i nstructions in “ Con- necting and Charg ing t he Ba ttery Pack” on P age 9, the bat tery pack should last about one year. If the bat - tery does not hol d a charge (when the phone is not i n use ) for more than 2 hours after an overnig ht c h arge, re- place the battery with a new 3.
