Advanced system reset (10 sec) Press the reset button for 10 seconds; you will hear two beeps at the th ird and the tenth seconds. The NAS will reset all the sy stem settings to default as it does by web-based system reset in “ Administration” > “Restore to F actory Default” except all the data are reserved.

Chapter 4. LED and Alarm Buzzer Specifications The LED indicators of the NA S indicate the sy stem status and inform ation. When the NAS is turned on, check the following ite ms to make sure the sy stem status is normal.

Chapter 5. Upgrade Memory on QNAP Turbo NAS (RAM Module Installation) Warning: The following instructions should only be performed by an authorized and trained technician. Strictly adhere to th e instructions to in stall a RAM module on the NAS.
4. R emove the case cover of the NAS gently . 5. Lift up the Mylar sheet. Lo cate the memory slot. Make sure the slot i s empty . 6. Grasp the e dge of the memory module. A lign the notch o n the gold edge of the module with the notch in the memo ry slot.
8. R otate the memory module tow ards the motherboard unti l the securing clips cl icks into place. 9. Close the case cover and fasten the screws. Connect the power adaptor and cables back to the NAS. 10. T o check that the memory module is recognized by the NA S, power up the NAS and login the web interface as an administra tor .
5.2 TS-879U-RP, TS-1279U- RP, TS-EC879U-RP, TS-EC1279U-RP QNAP pro vides a 2GB DDR3* RAM module an d a 4GB DDR3 EC C** RAM module (optional purchase) for users to upgrade the memory of the NAS. I nsert an extra RAM mod ule on the motherboard of the NAS to upgr ade the memo ry .
2. Hold t he notch at th e edge of the top cover . Remove the top cover in both hands. 3. Release the ejector clips gently by pulling the m out of the sides of the RAM slot.
4. Gr asp the edge of the RAM module. Align the notch on the gold edge of the RAM module with th e notch in the RAM slot. Insert th e RAM module to the RAM slot unt il it cannot go any f urther .
Chapter 6. Network Expansion Card Installation Warning: The following instructions should only be performed by an authorized and trained technician. Strictly adhere to the instruct ions to install a netw ork expansion card on the NAS. F ailure to do so could result in injury to huma n body or death.

1. T urn off the NA S. Disconnect the power adaptor , network cable(s), and an y other connectors or cables from the NAS . 2. Before installing the network expansion card, pu t on a n antistatic wrist strap to prevent electrostatic discharge. The crocodile clip should be connected to the ground.
5. Loosen the screws and remove the expansion sl ot cover . 6. Gr asp the edge of the ne twork expansion card. Align the notch on the gold edge of the card with the notch in th e PCIe slot. Insert the network expansi on card to the PCIe slot until it cannot go any further .
7. F asten the screws. 8. Close the case cover and fasten the screws. Connect the power adaptor and cables to the NAS. 9. T o check that the network expansion is reco gnized by the NAS , power up the NAS and login the web interface as an administr ator .
6.2 TS-879U-RP, TS-127 9U-RP 1. T urn off the NA S. Disconnect the power adaptor , network cable(s), and an y other connectors or cables from the NAS . 2. Before installing the network expansion card, pu t on a n antistatic wrist strap to prevent electrostatic discharge.

7. F asten the screws. 8. Close the case cover and fasten the screws. Connect the power adaptor and cables to the NAS. 9. T o check that the network expansion is reco gnized by the NAS , power up the NAS and login the web interface as an administr ator .
Chapter 7. Hot-swap Hard Drives The QNAP NAS is compatible with 2.5-inch/3.5-inch SA T A hard disk drives from majo r hard disk brands. Fo r the updated hard dr ive compatibility list, please visit http://www .

The NA S supports hot -swapping the hard drives when 1 member drive crashes in RAID 1, 1–2 member drives cra sh in RAID 5 or RAID 6. Follow the steps below to hot -swap the hard drive when a member drive fails in a RAID configuration. 1. Login the NAS and check the disk v olume configur ation in “V olume Management” .
Chapter 8. RAID Recovery The QNAP NAS supports exclusive RAID recovery techn ology to recover a failed RAID disk volume from uni ntentional disconnection or r emova l of the hard drives from t he system.

Chapter 9. Use the LCD Panel This feature is only provided by the NAS models with LCD panels. Please visit http://www .qnap.com for details. The NAS pro vides a handy L CD panel for users to perform di sk configur ation and view the system information.
For example, whe n 5 hard drives installed ar e available on the NAS, the LCD panel shows: C o n f i g . D i s k s ? → R A I D 5 Press the “Select” button to browse mo re options, for example, RAID 6. Press the “Enter” button and th e following message shows.
T o encrypt the disk volume*, select “Y es” wh en the L CD panel shows <Encrypt V olume?>. The default encryption password is “admin” . T o change the password, please login the web-base.
View s ystem information by the LCD panel When the LCD panel shows the server name and IP address, press the “Enter” button to enter the Main Menu. The Main Menu consists of the follow ing items: 1. TCP/IP 2. Physical disk 3. Volume 4. System 5. Shut down 6.
2. Physical disk The following opt ions are available: Disk Info Back to Main Menu The disk info shows the temperature an d the c apacity of the hard drive. D i s k : 1 T e m p : 5 0 ° C S i z e : 2 3 2 G B 3. Vol ume This section shows the disk configuration of the NAS.
4. Syst em This section shows the system temperature an d the rotation speed of the system fan. C P U T e m p : 5 0 ° C S y s T e m p : 5 5 ° C S y s F a n : 8 6 5 R P M 5. Shut down Use this option to turn off the NAS. Press the “Select” button to select “Yes”.

Chapter 10. Install Power Supply Unit * This section applies to rackmount NAS models only . The power supply units of TS-809U-RP/859U -RP+/879U-RP/EC879U -RP should only be replaced by an authorized and tr ained technician. 10.1 1U Turbo NAS T he following in structions sh ould only be performed by an authorized and trained technician.
4. F asten the screw tightly . 5. Tu r n o n t h e N A S . Note: T o replace a failed power su pply unit, tu rn off the N AS. Then remove the failed u nit safely and repeat steps 3-5 abov e to install a new power supply unit.
Warning: The NAS supports replacing the red undant power supply unit witho ut turning off the server when redundant power supply mode is enabled. However , users are strongly recommended to turn OFF the NAS before replacing the power supply unit to reduce the risk of electric shock.

10.3 2U Turbo NAS (except TS-127 9U-RP and TS-EC1279U-RP) T he following in structions sh ould only be performed by an authorized and trained technician. T o replace a failed power supply unit on a 2U T urbo NAS, follow the steps below . 1. T urn off the NAS .

Enable warning aler t for redundant power supply on the web-based interface: If two power supply units (PSU ) have been inst alled on the NAS and connected to the power sockets, both PSU will supply the power t o the NAS (applied to 1U and 2U models).
