This user guide will assist you with the installation procedures for the PCI Adapter. Your package should contain the 3Com 11Mbps W ireless LAN PCI Adapter and the In sta ll ati o n C D .
Mobility—W ireless LAN sy st ems can provide LAN users with access to real-time information anywhere in their organization. This mobility supports productivity and service opportunities not possible with wired networks.
Install Pro cedure for Mi crosoft Windows 95OSR2/9 8/98SE /ME/2000/XP Follow these steps to install the W LAN PCI Adapter (do not insert y our 3Com 11Mbps W irel ess LAN PCI Adapter until instructed): 1 Power on your computer and allow W indows 95OSR2/ 98/98SE/ME/2000/XP to load fully.
3 After c opy ing the files t o y our s ystem, click Finish to c om p le te th e se tu p. Install Pro cedure for Mi crosoft Windows NT4.0 1 Install the W i reless LAN PCI Adapter Hardware first. Click Install Hardware on the main 3Com 11Mbps W ireless LAN installation screen.
4 Carefully insert the W i reless LAN PCI Adapter into the select ed slot until it seats snu gl y . The antenna on Wireless LAN PCI Adapter is a separate pie ce. Once the PCI Adapter is seated firmly, you can screw the antenna to the outside of the faceplate and adjust for best reception.

2 Using the Configuration Utility The 3Com 11Mbps W ireless LAN PCI Adapter uses its own management soft w are for all supported operating s y stems ex cept Microsoft W indow s XP (see the section “Configuring Automatic Network Connections with W indows XP” for XP speci fic informat ion).
Link Quality—active when the node is in Infrastructure Mode. The bar graph displays the quality of the link between the node and Access Point. It summarizes the qualit y of the link over the bar gra.
Click the “Edit” button to edit the selected profile. Click the “De lete” button if you w ish to delete selec ted profiles. Profile Name —the name of the profile or group of setting used to connect with a particular network. The name is for your benefit and can consist of up to 48 characters.
To configure one or more wireless networks for auto connection, follow these steps: 1 Right-click the Network icon in the notificat ion area at the bottom of the screen to display a pop- up menu. Click Open Network Connections . 2 Right-click the W ireles s Network Connection icon and click Propert ies in the Pop-up menu.
