Maxima 7 II. SAFETY PRE-RIDE SAFETY CHECK Get to know the feel of your scooter and its capabilities. Pride recommends that you perform a safety check before each use to make sure your scooter operates smoothly and safely . For details on how to perform these necessary inspections, see XII.

Maxima 9 FIGURE 4. INCREASED ST ABILITY DRIVING POSITION FIGURE 3. NORMAL DRIVING POSITION When you approach an incline, it is best to lean forward. See figures 3 and 4. This shifts the center of gravity of you and your scooter toward the front of the scooter for improved stability .
10 Maxima BRAKING INFORMA TION Y our scooter is equipped with two powerful brake systems: 1. Regenerative: Uses electricity to rapidly slow the vehicle when the throttle control lever returns to the center/ stop position; and 2.
Maxima 11 FREEWHEEL MODE Y our scooter is equipped with a manual freewheel lever , that when pulled up, allows the scooter to be pushed. Fo r more information about how to place your scooter into and out of freewheel mode, see V .
12 Maxima DOORS n Determine if the door opens toward or away from you. n Use your hand to turn the knob or push the handle or push-bar . n Drive your scooter gently and slowly forward to push the door open. Or drive your scooter gently and slowly backwards to pull the door open.
Maxima 13 MO TO R VEHICLE TRANSPORT Currently , there are no standards approved for tie-down systems in a moving vehicle of any type to transport a person while seated in a scooter . Although your scooter may be equipped with a positioning belt, this belt is not designed to provide proper restraint during motor vehicle transport.
14 Maxima REACHING AND BENDING A void reaching or bending while driving your scooter . When reaching, bending, or leaning while seated on your scooter , it i s important to maintain a stable center of gravity and keep the scooter from tipping.
Maxima 15 EMI/RFI WARNINGS Laboratory tests performed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have shown that radio waves can cause unintended motion of electric scooters.
16 Maxima What is the FDA doing about the problem? The FDA has written to electric scooter manufacturers and requested that those manufacturers test their new models of scooters to be certain that they provide a reasonable degree of resistance against EMI/RFI.

Maxima 19 Y our Maxima is a motorized electric scooter designed to enhance your personal mobility . Y our Maxima is an indoor/outdoor scooter that was designed to travel primarily on smooth surfaces such as sidewalks, roads, parking lots, floors, and driveways.
20 Maxima K ey Switch n Fully insert the key into the key switch to power up (turn on) your Maxima. n Pull the key out to power down (turn off) your Maxima. Speed Adjustment Dial This dial allows you to preselect and limit your Maxima s top speed. n The image of the tortoise represents the slowest speed setting.
Maxima 21 REAR SECTION The onboard battery char ger , the charger power cord, the batteries, the electronic controller assembly , the main circuit breaker , the manual freewheel lever , and the motor/transaxle assembly are located beneath the shroud on the rear section of your Maxima.
22 Maxima Main Cir cuit Brea ker When the voltage in your Maxima s batteries becomes low or your Maxima is heavily strained because of exces- sive loads or steep inclines, the main circuit breaker may trip to protect your Maxima s motor and electronics from damage.
Maxima 23 Y our Maxima is equipped with two long-lasting, 12-volt, deep-cycle batteries that are sealed and maintenance free. They are recharged by an onboard 3-amp charging system designed for ease of use and convenience. n Char ge your Maxima s batteries prior to using it for the first time.
24 Maxima BA TTERIES AND CHARGING-FREQUENTL Y ASKED QUESTIONS (F AQS) How does the charger work? When your Maxima s battery voltage is low , the char ger works harder and sends more electrical current to the batteries to bring up their char ge.
Maxima 25 How can I get maximum range or distance per charge? Rarely will you have ideal driving conditions: smooth, flat, hard driving surfaces with no wind or curves. Y ou will often face hills, sidewalk cracks, uneven and loosely packed surfaces, curves, and wind.
26 Maxima W e work closely with our battery manufacturer to provide batteri es that best suit your Maxima s specific electrical demands. Fresh batteries arrive daily at Pride and are shipped fully charged to our customers. During shipping, the batteries may encounter temperature extremes that may influence their initial performance.
Maxima 27 VII. OPERA TION BEFORE GETTING ON Y OUR MAXIMA n Fully charge the batteries See VI. Batteries and Charging. n Push the manual freewheel lever to the drive (down) position Never leave the manual freewheel lever pulled up unless you are manually pushing your Maxima.
28 Maxima VII. OPERA TION WHETHER Y OU ARE DRIVING FORWARD OR IN REVERSE n Pull on the left handgrip to steer your Maxima to the left. n Pull on the right handgrip to steer your Maxima to the right. n Move the tiller to the center position to drive straight ahead.
Maxima 29 TILLER ANGLE ADJUSTMENT is in motion. Y ou can adjust the tiller to any number of positions be- tween the forward stop and the scooter deck. 1. Pull up on the tiller adjustment lever . See figure 13. 2. Move the tiller to a comfortable position.
30 Maxima VIII. COMFORT ADJUSTMENTS ARMREST HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT Y ou will need the following tools to adjust the height of the armrests: 5/32 Hex Key 1/8 Hex Key 7/16 W rench 1 . Loosen the setscrew on the side of the height adjustment tube with the 1/8 hex key .

32 Maxima IX. DISASSEMBL Y AND ASSEMBL Y No tools are required to disassemble or assemble your Maxima. Always disassemble or assemble your Maxima on a level, dry surface with sufficient room for you to work and move around your scooter . Keep in mind that the disassembled sections of the Maxima take up more floor space than the assembled Maxima.

34 Maxima Any electromechanical device occasionally requires some troubleshooting. However , most of the prob lems that may arise can usually be solved with a bit of thought and common sense. Many of these problems occur because the batteries are not fully charged, or because the batteries are worn down and can no longer hold a charge.
Maxima 35 XII. CARE AND MAINTENANCE Y our Maxima requires a minimal amount of care and maintenance. If you do not feel confident in your ability to perform the maintenance listed below , you may schedule inspection and maintenance at your authorized Pride provider .
36 Maxima XIII. WARRANTY THREE-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY Three years on all structural frame components; including platform, fork, seat post, and frame. Three-year prorata drive train warranty; including transaxle, motor , and brake.
Maxima 37 XIII. WARRANTY There is no other express warranty . Implied warranties, including those of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, are limited to one (1) year from the date of original purchase and to the extent permitted by law .
