1 Chapter 1 Introduction Overview The KH0116 KVM Switch is a control units that allow access to multiple computers from a single KVM (keyboard, monitor, and mouse) console.

9 Chapter 2 Inst allation and Operation Before Y ou Begin Rack Mounting The KH0116 can be mounted in a 1U system rack. For conven ience and flexibility, the m ounting brack ets can screw into either the front or the back of the unit so that it can attach to the front or the back of the rack.
KH0116 User Manual 10 Single St age Inst allation In a Single Stage installation, there ar e no additional switches daisy chained down from the first unit . To set up a single stage installatio n do the following: 1. Plug your keyboard, m ouse, and monitor into the unit's Console Ports.
Chapter 2. Installation and Operation 11 Daisy Chaining To control even more computers, up to 31 additional switches can be daisy chained down from th e first unit. As many as 512 computers can be controlled from a single console in a complete installation.

Installation and Operation 13 Remote Console Operation Overview Operating the KH0116 from a remote KVM consol e (up to 150m away ), is accomplished by means of the CE-250 KVM Extender system. The CE-250 system consists of a Remote Module (CE-250R) that connects to a Local Module (CE-250L) via Cat 5 cabling.

Make sure th at all the equipment to be connected up is powered Off, the perform the steps indicated below: 1. Plug the keyboard, monitor, and m ouse cables for the remote console devices into their ports on the Console side of th e CE-250R.

KH0116 User Manual 16 Hot Plugging The KH0116 supports hot plugg ing - components can be removed and added back into the instal lation by unpluggi ng their cables from th e ports without the need to shut the unit down.
Chapter 2. Installation and Operation 17 Port ID Numbering Each Computer Port on a KH0116 installati on is assi gned a uni que Port ID. The Port ID is made up of two parts: a Station Number , and a Port Number : The S tation Number - is a two digit numb er which reflects the switch's position in the daisy chain sequence.
KH0116 User Manual 18 Powering Off and Rest arting If it becomes necessary to Power Off one of the KH0116 units, before start ing it back up you must do the following : 1. Shut down all the computers that are attached to it. Note: Y ou must unplug the power cords of any computers that have the Keyboar d Power On function.
19 Chapter 3 OSD Operation Overview The On Screen Display (OSD) is a menu d riven method to han dle computer control and switchi ng operations. All pr ocedures start from the OSD Main Screen. To pop up the Main Screen, tap the [Scroll Lock] key twice.
KH0116 User Manual 20 When you invoke the OSD, a screen similar to the one below appears: Note: 1. The diagram depicts the Administra tor's Main Screen. The User Main Screen does not show the F4 and F6 functions since these are reserved for the Administrator and can't be accessed by ordinary Users.
Chapter 3. OSD Operation 21 OSD Navigation T o dismiss the menu, and d eactivate the OSD, Click the X at the upper right corner of the OSD W indow; or press [Esc] . T o Logout, Click F8 or the Z Z Z symbol at the top of the Main Screen, or press [F8] .
KH0116 User Manual 22 OSD Functions OSD functions are used to configure and control the OSD. For example, rapidly switching to any port; scanning only selected port s; limiting the list of ports you wish to view; designating a port as a Quick View Port; managing port names; or making OSD setting adjust ments.
Chapter 3. OSD Operation 23 F2 LIST : This function le ts you broaden or narr ow the scope of which ports th e OSD displays (lists) on the Main Screen. Many of the OSD function s only operate on the computers currently selected for Listing on the Main Screen with this function.
KH0116 User Manual 24 F3 SET : This function allows the Administrato r and each User to set up his own working environment. A separate profile for each is stored by the OSD and is activated accord ing to the Username that was provided during Login. To change a setting: 1.

KH0116 User Manual 26 F4 ADM: F4 is an Administrator only fun ction. It allows the A dministrator to con figure and control the overall oper ation of the OSD. To change a setting Double Click it; or use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to m ove th e highlight bar to it then press [Enter] .

KH0116 User Manual 30 F5 SKP: Clicking the F5 field or pressing [F5] invokes Skip (SKP) Mode. This function enables you to easil y skip backward or forward - switching the console focus from the currently active co mputer port to the previous or next available one.
Chapter 3. OSD Operation 31 F6 BRC: F6 is an Administrator only function. Clicking the F6 field, or pressing [F6] , invokes Broadcast (BRC) Mo de. When this function is in effect, commands sent from the console ar e broadcast to all ava ilable computers on the installation.
KH0116 User Manual 32 F7 SCAN: Clicking the F7 field or pressing [F7] invokes Auto Scan Mode. This function allows you to automatically switch am ong the available computers at regular intervals so that you can monito r thei r activity without having to take the trouble of switching manu ally.
Chapter 3. OSD Operation 33 F8 LOUT : Clicking the F8 field, or pressing [F8 ] logs you out of OSD control of the computers, and blanks the Console screen. This is different from simp ly pressing [Esc] when you are at the Main Scr een to deactivate the OSD.

35 Chapter 4 Hotkey Operation Hotkey Port Control Hotkey Port Control allows you to provide KVM focus to a particular computer directly from the keyboard.
KH0116 User Manual 36 Selecting the Active Port Each Computer Port is assigned a Port ID (see Port ID Numbering , p. 17). You can directly access any com puter on the installation wi th a Hotkey combination that specifies the Port ID of the Computer Port that the computer is connected to.
Chapter 4. Hotkey Operation 37 Invoking Auto Scan To start Auto Scanning, key in the fol low ing Hotkey combination: 1. Invoke Hotkey Mode (see p. 35). 2. Press [A] . After you press A , you automatically exit Hotkey Mode, and enter Auto Scan Mode, and Auto Scanning begins.
KH0116 User Manual 38 Skip Mode This feature allows you to switch between computers in o rder to monitor t hem manually. You can dwel l on a particular port for as long or as lit tle as you like - as opposed to Auto Scanning, whic h automatically switches after a fixed interval.
Chapter 4. Hotkey Operation 39 Hotkey Beeper Control The Beeper (see Activate Beep er, p. 27) can be Hotkey toggled On and Off. To toggle the Beeper, key in the foll o wing Hotkey combin at ion: 1. Invoke Hotkey Mode (see p. 35). 2. Press [B] After you press B , the Beeper toggles On or Off.

41 Chapter 5 The Firmware Upgrade Utility Introduction The purpose of the Windows-based Firmware U pgrade Utility (FWUpgrade.exe) is to provide an au tomated process for make upgradi ng the KVM switch's firmware as smooth and painless as possible.
KH0116 User Manual 42 Before Y ou Begin To prepare for the firmware upgrade, do the following: 1. From a computer that is not part of you r KVM in stallation go to our Internet support site and choose the model name th at relates to your device to get a list of available Firmware Upgrade Packages.
