Keep the Owners Manual in a safe place for futu r e reference. à The ECD2 should not be used near water, for example near a bathtub, kitchen sink, in a wet basement, near a swimming pool, etc.

6 1 1 1 1 Unpacking and Placement The ECD2 is packaged for maximum protection. Please carefully read th e instructions below before proceeding to unpack the unit. Be extremely careful. Unpacking Procedure à I nspect both ends of the cardboard box and open at the end without the central staple by slitting the reinfor ced tape at eithe r side.
7 2 2 2 2 Instant Install I f you are like us, the first thing y ou will want to do is to play y our favourit e piece of music through y our new ECD2. The following instructions are writte n to enable y ou to achieve thi s as quickly as possible.
8 3 3 3 3 Front Panel Functions Power Switch Depress this switch to turn power ON. Depress the switc h again to turn the uni t OFF. Vacuum Fluorescent D isplay Display provides informa tion regarding the status of the ECD2 and tr ack/tim e information for the disc being play ed.
9 ‘ ► ’ Button Press this button to start pla y ing the disc. I f the disc drawer is open, it will clos e automaticall y . The number of the track bei ng play ed and the and the elapse d time will be shown in the display , a long with the PL AY indicator.
10 4 4 4 4 Rear Panel Functions Caution! Please make all changes at minimum volume setting. Only increase the volume after the connections have been made. Digital Output Using a standard 75 Ω coax digital cable with RCA termination, connect the digital output to the coax digital input on the external D/A converter.
11 The ECD2 will operate satisfactorily within a voltag e variation of up to ±5% o f that voltage at which the unit has been se t. I f you require the voltage se tting to be altere d, e.g. reloc ation to another are a, city or country , or ex traordinarily high or low voltages, please contact y ou r Perreaux dealer.
12 5 5 5 5 Remote Control Functions The ECD2 comes supplied with a 29 button Perreaux Universal inf rared remot e control. The remote control uses 2 x AAA batteries and may be chang ed by slidin g forward the plastic cover loca ted on the bottom of the remote .
13 Search Backward / Search Forward These buttons, labeled and , fast reverse or fast forward through th e currently play ing disc as long as they are pressed. Direct Access These numeric buttons are used to directly access a track from t he remot e control instead of stepping through using the TRACK buttons.
14 Stop This button stops a disc that is play ing and resets the play er, i.e. if play is resumed, the disc will start over from the first track. Pre ssing the STOP button twice in quick succession cancels any programmed selections. Random This instructs the ECD2 to play tracks from the entire disc in random order.

18 8 8 8 8 Maximising System Potential Interconnects and Speaker Cables An often-ignored area in high fidelity sy stems is the cabling connecting th e various components. I nterconnect leads should be high quality cable wit h substantial terminations.
19 9 9 9 9 Care and Maintenance The ECD2 has been designed to provide many y ears of trouble free enjoy ment. Note: Please switch the unit off and remove the cord-set from the rear of th e amplifier before attempting to clean your E CD2 in the manner described below.

22 12 12 12 12 Faultfinding Your System Cause and Elimination of Hum Hum is a particularly annoy ing form of noise in any high fidelity system and a t some time has bee n experienced by many of us. Hum may result from a number of differe nt situations and to make matter s worse may be caused by a seeming ly illogical combination of circumstances.
23 à When a piece of equipment is supplied with a three pin mains/line supply lead all three pi ns must be connected in the correct fashion - see y our dealer if in doubt. à Check all interconnecting signal leads for g ood connections, both internal connections and firm contact with the sockets.
24 Step 1 – Loudspeakers SOURCE AMPL IFI ER A B Change the loudspeaker leads from one loudspeaker to the other. If the faul t remains in loudspeaker ‘A’, then loudspeaker ‘A’ is at fault, go no further. I f the fault now appears in loudspeaker ‘B’ then the problem lies further up th e line.
25 I f the fault stay s in loudspeaker ‘A’, then it is probable that the fault may exis t within the amplifier . Caution! Ch anging of any connectors must be carri ed out at a mini mum volum e setting. Only increase the volume after the connections have been changed.
