4 Getting started Press the lar ge tabs on the battery c ompartment cover as the arr ows indicated below to open the bat tery compartment c over . 1. Bat t ery installation Befor e using the telephone, you should inst all four new AA alkaline batt eries (not included) to pr ovide memory backup and enable the use of some featur es.

7 Getting started Install ation options If you want to mount your t elephone on a wall, use the mounting brack et provided with the pack age to connect with a standar d dual-stud telephone wall mounting plate. If you do not hav e this mounting plate, you can purchase one from many har dware or consumer el ectronic r etailers.
8 Getting started Install ation options Plug the other end of the telephone line cor d into a tel ephone wall jack or a DSL filter . 4. Align the holes on the bottom of the t elephone base with the wall mounting plate. Then slide the telephone base down until it l ocks securely .

14 T elephone settings T el ephone set tings L ocal ar ea code If you dial 10 digits to make calls to areas outside your home area code (without dialing 1), then set local area codes into the telephone. After setting, if you receive a call from one of these local area codes, the screen displays the 10 digits of the telephone number.
15 Making a call Lift the handset or press SPEAKER , then use the dialing keys t o dial a number . The screen display s the elapsed time as you talk (in hours, minutes and seconds). On hook dialing (predialing) Enter th e telep hone n umb er. Press DE L E T E X to make cor rec tion s whe n enter ing t he telep hon e numb er.

Press REDIAL/ P AUSE to dial the number . -OR- When the telephone is idle, pr ess REDIAL/ P AUSE to display the last dialed number .

19 T elephone operation Options while on calls Audio Assist ® The Audio Assist ® feature makes voic es sound louder and clearer . To turn the Audio Assist ® feature on: Press A UDIO ASSIS T while you are on a call using the handset, the AUDIO AS SIS T icon displays on the screen.
20 Dir ectory memory capacity The direct ory can store up t o 25 entries, with a maximum of 15 alphanumeric characters f or names and 24 digits for tel ephone numbers. Direct ory entries are stor ed in alphabetical order , according to the fir st character .

29 Caller ID Caller ID hist ory How the caller ID his tory (caller ID l og) works The telephone stores caller ID information about the last 65 incoming calls. Entries are stored in reverse chronological order. The phone deletes the oldest entry when the log is full to make room for new calls.

41 Appendix T r oubleshooting The caller might not be calling from an ar ea that supports caller ID. Both your and the caller’s telephone servic e providers must use equipment compatible with caller ID service. I’ve set my LCD language to Spanish or French and I don’t know how to change it back to English.
