C1696M (8/06 ) 13 Understanding DVR Controls and Menus This section provides an overview of D VR5100 front panel contro ls and menus. The DVR5100 is a menu -driven DVR. Y ou can operate the DVR5100 using any of the following: • DVR5100 Control Pad: The DVR5100 prov ides front panel controls that allow you to local access to t he menu system.

The DVR5100 Control P ad offers a q uick and con venient set of local control s that allow you to configure and operate the DVR.

22 C1696M (8/06) USING THE JOG/SHUTTLE TO NAVIGATE THROUGH MENUS There are two ways to retu rn to a previ ous, or high er level, menu : • T urn the jog (inner dial) to the right or left un til you select the Back icon on the screen, and th en press the Enter/Sh ift key .
C1696M (8/06 ) 23 3. Enter char acters by pr essing the following keys : • T urn the jog to the right or left to sele ct a character of the name or IP add ress that you are entering. • Use the joystick, blue function key , or yellow function key to move between characters within the text field.
24 C1696M (8/06) On-Screen Menus The DVR5100 Series DVR on -screen menus hierarchy is designed to present only those menus for w hich you have permission. Depend i ng on your user role, you might se e all available menus or only a few of t he menus. There are user roles for an ad ministrator , manager , op erator , and guest.
C1696M (8/06 ) 25 SEARCH/EXPORT MENU The Search /Export menu co ntains opti ons for loca ting and re viewing recorde d video and for export ing snapshots and recorded vide o. T o export video you must h ave a CD or DVD ava ilable. T o export snapsh ots, you must ha ve a USB storage de vice attached to the DVR5100 or t o the KBD5000.

C1696M (8/06 ) 27 V IEWING A SPECIFIC CAMERA When you select a camera, its video stream is sent to the video pane with the green border . For example, if your displa y is set to a 2x2 layo ut and the upper left video pane is selecte d, you can select any camera to display in this video pane.

34 C1696M (8/06) 4. Navigate the menu as follows: • Use the joystick to move through th e list of menu options and through the list of settings for each option. • Press Ent er/Shift to select or a ccept an opti on or a sett ing. Y ou cannot undo a chan ge once you ha ve pressed t his button.
C1696M (8/06 ) 35 Responding to Alarms Each time an alarm occurs, the DVR5 100 displays an Alarm Received dialog box, whi ch allows you t o respond imme diately to th e ev ent or elect to have the alarm event snoo zed for a specified amount of time. An alarm event must be acknowle dged before it will disappear fr om the screen.

Scri pts may be used to control almost all system funct io ns and may be combined in a lmost any order . T o crea te a scri pt you must be logged o n to the D VR5100 r emote client application .

40 C1696M (8/06) Activating Relay s The DVR5100 may be used to activat e relay output manu ally , connectin g DVR5100 devices to other external de vices. A relay may be activated for a predeter mined period o f time (the d well time) or ma y remain latche d until there is another signal to rele ase the relay.
C1696M (8/06 ) 41 Using Patterns, Presets, and Scans With the DVR5100 you can ac tivate patterns, presets, and scans. A patter n is a user -defined, viewable camera path with a b eginn ing and end. The number an d duration of patterns vari es with diff erent positio ning systems.

44 C1696M (8/06) Activating Auxiliary Commands (Wiper) On cameras that are equipped with a wiper , a preset command is av ailable to activate it from the DVR5100. T he DVR5100 ignores t he c ommand if a camera does not supp ort it. NOTE: The instructions in this manu al refer to the DVR5100 Control Pad.

52 C1696M (8/06) PLAYBACK SPEEDS FOR RECORDED V IDEO While playing back re corded video you can pl ay t he video at several speeds in either fast forward o r fast reverse direction. T o ch ange the play back peed fo r recorded video: 1. Select a video pane that is displaying recorded video.
C1696M (8/06 ) 53 T o unlo ck a video clip : Y ou can unlock any video cli p that has bee n locked by first performing an enhanced se arch for locked video. 1. Perform an enhanced se arch making su re to includ e locked vide o in the Se arch type. Refer to Perf orming an Enhanced Sea rch on page 48.
54 C1696M (8/06) 3. Press to mark t he event. A yellow star ap pears in the t imeline for the selected c amera the next time you view t he Quick Sear ch dialog box.
C1696M (8/06 ) 55 Exporting V ideo The DVR5100 allows yo u to export video as Qu ickT ime MPEG-4 or Pe lco video format ( *.pef) and save the file to a USB device, CD- ROM, or DVD. The defaul t export fo rmat is QuickTime MPEG-4, but this may be ch anged during the export process on th e Enhanced Search dial og box.
56 C1696M (8/06) 4. Navigate to the export destination, and then select an option. Y ou can export video to a CD, DVD, or USB memory key . The medi a must have sufficient space to stor e the entire video clip. If you are unsure if the video clip has sufficie nt space, follow the instru cti ons at Step 7 to export only a portion of the video cl ip.
