12 C1697M-B (11/08) Getting Started The DVR5100 remot e client uses a secure VPN connection to connec t the remote PC to the D VR5100 server . T o continue, you must ha ve the DVR5100 network IP address and remote access key . Y ou will find both on the DVR5 100 Setup > System > Network screen.

C1697M-B (11/08) 15 Main Application Window Overview The DVR5100 Remote Client main applicat ion window provides a ccess to daily oper ational functions . The applicatio n window is org anized into a navigation panel and a viewing pane l. The main window is further organized by ta bs that display additional interactive areas.
16 C1697M-B (11/08) View: Th is panel displays information selected by the following tabs: • Wo rkspace: The Workspace tab displays a group of vid eo panes sh owing the cameras you have selected. Change s to the cameras are saved aut omatically . Thus, you do not need to reselect th e same cameras each time you log on.

18 C1697M-B (11/08) Operating the Remote Client MONITORING LIVE V IDEO AND AUDIO SELECTING VIDEO TO DISPLAY Y ou can view camer as in either Ca mera or Expl orer view (ref er to Figure 8). Y ou can also create logi cal groups from available ca me ras to navigate efficiently through th e camera list.

C1697M-B (11/08) 21 ARRANGING CAMERAS IN THE EXPLORER VIEW Y ou can rearrang e the camera s displayed in t he Explorer v iew by location , camera groups, camera number , or camera name. 1. Click the “Arr anged by (sorting option) ! ” menu at the top of the screen, or right-click in the white space below the list of cameras.
22 C1697M-B (11/08) V ideo Controls When viewing vid eo in a single screen or a 2 x 2 layout, pl ace your mouse p ointer in a co nnected vid eo pane; a set of controls appears at the bottom of the video pane (refer to Figure 13). T o hide the video contr ols, move the mouse pointer outside of the video pane.

Digital Zoom Controls CONTROLLING PTZ CAMERAS If a camera has pan/t ilt/zoom (PTZ) capabilities, the mouse pointer turn s into cross-hairs when it is mov ed into a video pane. T o pan or tilt a PTZ-enab led camera: 1. Place the po inter in a video pane; the pointer be comes cross hairs (refer to Figure 17).
26 C1697M-B (11/08) USING PATTERNS, PRESETS, AND SCANS The DVR5100 remote client allows you to progr am the movements of PTZ-enabled ca meras using patterns, presets, and scans. Patter ns, presets, and scans may be set and a ctivated di rectly from the v ideo pane (a s described b elow).

C1697M-B (11/08) 29 MOTION DETECTION If a camera has motio n detection enable d, you can view the moti on detection from that camera while monitor ing live video. If mo tio n detection is enabled while video is recor ded, you can vie w it while playi ng back the re corded vide o.
30 C1697M-B (11/08) Device Properties and Settings If you need assistance f rom Pelco Pr oduct Suppor t, you may need to know the propert ies of a de vice includ ing the IP add ress, se rial number , and software version.
C1697M-B (11/08) 31 VIEWING DIAGNOSTIC PROPERTIES The DVR5100 ca n be queried f or diagnos tic informat ion. 1. Click “Diagnostics…” The Diagn ostic dialog box appears displa ying addit ional detai ls about th e status of the DVR5100 (r efer t o Figure 27): • T ype: Indicates the di agnostic infor mation type .
32 C1697M-B (11/08) Using Camera Menus The DVR5100 remote clien t supports the display an d navigation of prog ramming menus built into camer as (such as the Spectras Ser ies and the CCC5100H Series). Only camera s that support remo te programming thro ugh Pelco Coaxitron ® or Pelc o D protoco ls can use th is feature.
C1697M-B (11/08) 33 Executing Scripts A DVR script is like a macro, but it provid es more power and flexibility. Scripts can be used to control most system functions and can be combin ed in almost any order . T able E describes the suppo rted scripts.

C1697M-B (11/08) 35 Alarms, Relays, and Manual Recording W ORKING WITH ALARMS An alarm can be triggered by motion , a physical switch, or a devi ce condi tion.
36 C1697M-B (11/08) ALARM NOTIFICATION The DVR5100 remote client allows yo u to acknowledge or snooze an alarm notification. Y ou c an also read instructions or comments about the alarm, or add a n ote to the system log explaining your response.

C1697M-B (11/08) 39 ACTIVATING RELAYS The DVR5100 re mote client can be used to ac tivate outpu t relays manually . A relay can be activated for a predet ermined period o f time (the dwe ll time), or it can remain latched until ther e is another signal to rele ase the relay .
40 C1697M-B (11/08) MANUALLY RECORDING V IDEO AND AUDIO The DVR5100 remot e client allows you to record video clips whil e viewing live video without setting up a re cording schedule.
C1697M-B (11/08) 41 Searching for V ideo The DVR5100 remot e client offers two options to search for recorded video: Quick Search and Enh anced Search. Quick Search allow s you to search for video by a single device, date, an d time. Enhanced Sear ch all ows you to search fo r vi deo by multip le devices, date/t ime r anges, and events.
42 C1697M-B (11/08) 5. T o change the timelin e view from hours, minutes, or seconds to a lar ger increment, zoom out using one of the following method s: • Scroll backwa rd by rotati ng your mouse wheel.

C1697M-B (11/08) 45 SPECIFYING RECORDING T YPE FILTERS 1. In the Filters a rea, select one of the following as the search typ e: • Video (default): Thi s search type all ows you to include locked video and continu ous recording, ala rms, motion, and manu al recording types as part of the filter.
46 C1697M-B (11/08) LOCKING AND UNLOCKING SEARCH RESULTS The locked and unlocked icon is displayed be si de the se arch result. When you lock a video, the “unlock video” icon switches to the “lock video” icon . When you lo ck a video clip , a dialog b ox appears fo r you to enter a comment about the video clip for future refere nce.

C1697M-B (11/08) 49 SYNCHRONOUS PLAYBACK Y ou can select s everal cameras and have them all start play ing back from t he same moment in t ime. By activati ng Synchronous P la yback, you can select recor ded video fro m up to four c ameras and use a single set of video con trols to play, pause, forward, an d reverse a ll f our cameras.
50 C1697M-B (11/08) Exporting V ideo EXPORTING LIVE OR RECORDED V IDEO The DVR5100 r emote client pr ovides two met hods for expo rting video : • Live export: Exporting vide o at the frame rate at which you are cur rently viewing the video (can be refre shing at a lower frame rate than i t was viewed due to network ba ndwidth throttle).
C1697M-B (11/08) 51 EXPORTING RECORDED VIDEO DURING PLAYBACK 1. Place your mo use pointer in the video pan e that is p laying the reco rded video clip until the vid eo controls appear .

C1697M-B (11/08) 55 W orking with System Logs The DVR5100 au tomatically rec ords system and alarm events in a searchabl e database. Lo gged items ar e as follows (re fer to T ab le A): Given the prop er permissions, you may view th e system log, a nd search, print , or export it to disk.
56 C1697M-B (11/08) V IEWING THE SYSTEM LOG 1. Click “Display sys tem log” to open the Syste m Log screen, an d then click Sear ch Log (refer to Figure 59). A list of logged ev ents appears. The Filter box ind icates whether search ing filters are currently turned on or off.

Click Location . The Set Location dialog box appears, displaying a hierarchical list o f existing lo cations (refe r to Figure 66 ).
C1697M-B (11/08) 63 W orking with Devices The DVR5100 is designed for future expan sion into a fu lly distribut ed virtual mat rix. All attribu tes are desig ned to be virt ual . Alarms, cameras, the DVR5100, a nd so forth, are treated as individual entities th at make integr ation into a v irtual matr ix seamless.
64 C1697M-B (11/08) CAMERAS The DVR5100 system accommoda tes fi xed ca meras that tr ansmit NTSC/P AL s ignals and posit ioning systems t hat use sever al protocols . When selecting a protoco l for a PTZ camera, consider whether or no t you require bidirectional commun ication between the cameras and the D VR5100.
C1697M-B (11/08) 65 Selecting Video T ermination Vide o termination lessens the effects of ghost images on the fina l device when several video devices are connected tog ether in a chai n. Select “Video termination” to enable, or clear “Video term ination” to d isable.

68 C1697M-B (11/08) Setting Up Audio Associations The DVR5100 suppo rts up to four audio inpu ts. Each respect ive au dio input is assigned to a cert ain camera input. Not all DVR510 0 camera input s are assigne d an audio inpu t. In this case , connect came ras that supp ort audio to the DVR5100 chan nels that a re assigned an audi o input.
C1697M-B (11/08) 69 W ORKING WITH THE CONFIGURATION T AB The Configurat ion tab allows you to set up the noise filter le vels and video settings for each camera (refer to Figure 78).
70 C1697M-B (11/08) W ORKING WITH THE MOTION T AB The DVR5100 Remote Client allows you to set up to three motion detec tion zones per camer a. These zones may be any size and shap e, and they may be set to high or low sensi tivity to mo tion.
C1697M-B (11/08) 71 Understanding the Threshold Percen t The Threshold Percen t allows you to specify the number of blo cks in a motion zone that must detect motion before a motion event can be initiated.
72 C1697M-B (11/08) The DVR5100 remot e client views the multiple regions as one co ntiguous area. • If motion occurr ed in 10 blocks of the smaller region and 10 blocks of th e larger region, a motion event is trigg ered. • If an ac tivity occu rred in all 16 blocks of the smaller region , a motion event would not be triggered.
C1697M-B (11/08) 73 Scenario 2: Motion Zone = 50 Blocks If the motio n zone has 50 bl ocks and you attempt to set the Thresho ld Percent option to 2 percent, the DVR5100 remo te client au tomati cally readjusts t his value to 4 percent ( refer to Figu re 84).
74 C1697M-B (11/08) Enabling Audio Servic e If a camera supports au dio, the “Enable audio service option” tab appears. T o enable audio, select the “Enable audio service” check box (ref er to Figure 85). The Audio screen appears. T o disable audio, c lear the “Ena ble audio service” che ck box.
C1697M-B (11/08) 75 SPECIFYING THE DVR NAME AND LOCATION The DVR allows yo u to create a user -fri endly name to ea sily identif y the DVR5100 device . T o modify the DVR device name: 1. Select DVR . The Contents panel updates to display the cu rrent settings for the DVR5100 device.

78 C1697M-B (11/08) RELAY ARRAY A relay array is a grouping of r elays that are associated with th e same device in the DVR5100 netw ork. These re lays can be co nf igured by selecting the relay ar ray and then setting up the ind ividual rela ys within the array .

C1697M-B (11/08) 81 Managing Roles A role is a set of pe rmissions that de termines which d evices, servi ces, and featur es a user can access . Users can be ass igned m ultiple roles. Th e DVR5100 Remote Clie nt comes with four default roles, but allows you to create an unlimited number of roles (refer to Figure 90).
82 C1697M-B (11/08) MANAGER The Manage r role include s permissions t o monitor liv e video and audio, reposition PT Z cameras, respond to alarms, run scripts, activate relays, search for vid eo, play back video, lock cl ips, capture sn apshots, an d export and v iew all of th e Setup windows (r efer to T a ble L ).
C1697M-B (11/08) 83 GUEST The guest role has mini mal permissions and is allowed to monitor only live video and audio, change layout s, and reposition PTZ cameras (refer to T able N). ADDING A NEW ROLE The DVR5100 remo te client allows you to create new roles and c ustomize the p ermissions assign ed to those r oles.

C1697M-B (11/08) 87 EXCLUDING DEVICES AND SERVICES Y o u can provide a group of us ers access to a ll cameras on a system except one, such as the one monitoring the guard room. Or you can allow users to acc ess all services on all cameras, b ut disallow the programming of a certain subset o f cameras.
