7 • A vailable in r ack-mount or standalone configurations • Made in the USA 2.2 DESCRIPTION The P atton Electronics VLINK/CO and VLINK/CP VDSL modems provide high-speed LAN connections between peered Ethernet LANs, remote PCs, or an y other network enabled 10/100Base-T de vice.
8 3.0 INSTALLATION Because the VLINK modem requires no configuration, it can be installed quickly . If you are installing a standalone unit, ref er to section 3.1 “Standal- one unit installation”. Otherwise, ref er to section 3.2 “Rack card installation”.
9 3.2 RACK CARD INSTALLATION The VLINK modem rack card comprised a front card and a rear card.Do the f ollowing to install the cards into the rac k chassis: 1. Slide the rear card into the back of the chassis along the metal r ails. 2. Secure the rear card using the supplied metal screws .
10 6. Connect the Ether net interface (ref er to section 3.4, “Connecting the 10/100Base-T Ethernet Interface” on page 11). 3.3 CONNECTING THE T WISTED-PAIR LINE INTERFACE The VLINK modem suppor ts communication between two peer Ethernet LAN sites ov er a distance of up to 6,000 ft (1.

12 3.5 CONNECTING THE POTS/ISDN LINE The RJ-45 por t labeled “PO TS/ISDN” is the PO TS/ISDN interf ace . A tele- phone or an ISDN de vice ma y be connected to this port and carr ied ov er the VDSL line. The units do not need power f or the PO TS interf ace to work.
13 4.0 CONFIGURATION The Model 1068 VLINK modem has eight DIP switches f or configuring the unit f or a wide variety of applications. This section descr ibes switch locations and e xplains the diff erent configurations. No dip switch options are av ailable on the 1058.

15 4.2 CONFIGURING DIP SWITCH S1 DIP s witch S1 is where you configure the VDSL line rate, symmetric or asymmetric, Ethernet full auto negotiation capability (100Base-T full or half duple x, 10Base-T full or half duple x) or limited auto sense (only 100Base-T half duple x, 10Base-T full or half duple x).

17 5.0 OPERATION Once the VLINK modems are properly installed, they should operate transparently . No user settings required. This section describes reading the LED status monitors. 5.1 POWER UP Bef ore applying power to the VLINK modem, please revie w section 3.
