Phonebook 19 Chain dial This feature allows you to dial phone numbers in the phonebook while you ar e on a call. This f eature can be used, f or example, to dial a calling card access number or bank account PIN that you have stored in the phonebook, without having to dial manually .
Programming 20 Programmable settings Y ou can cust omize the unit by programming th e following features using t he handset. T o access the features, there are 2 methods: – scrolling through the display menus ( page 20) – using the direct com mands (page 22) L Direct command is the main method us ed in these operating instructions.

Programming 26 Changing the handset name Each handset can be given a customized name ( “Bob”, “Kitchen”, etc.). This is us eful when you make intercom calls between handsets. Y ou can also select whether or not the handset name is displayed in standby mode.

Caller ID Servic e 28 Using Caller ID service Import ant: L This unit is Caller ID comp atible. T o use Caller ID features, you must subscribe to a Caller I D service. Contact your service provider/ telephone company for detail s. Caller ID features When an outside call is be ing received, the caller ’ s phone number is displayed.
Caller ID Service 29 phonebook, the sto red name in the phonebook is announced. L Name pronunciation may vary . This feature may not pronounce all names correctly . L Y our unit may mute one or mor e rings in order to announc e the caller ’s information.
Caller ID Servic e 30 Sto ring an area code to be deleted automatically In some situations, phone numbers stored automatically in the caller list (page 29) will include area codes. If you do not want to dial the area code when making calls from the caller list, you can store the area c ode which you want t he unit to delete aut omatically .
Answering System 31 Answering system The answering system can answer and record calls for you when you are unavailable to answer the phone. Y ou can also set the unit to play a greeting message but not to record caller messages by selecting “ Greeting only ” as the recording time setting (page 36).
Answer ing System 32 T o adjust the speaker volume , press {^} or {V} repeatedly . Y ou can answ er the call by pressing { SP-P HONE } . T o turn off while screening a call, press {V} repeatedly until the sounds goes off.

Answering System 35 3 Follow the voice guidance prompts as necessary or control the unit using remote commands (page 35). 4 When finished, hang up. Note: L Y ou can also leave a message just as any outside caller can. After the greeting message start s, press {*} to skip the greeting message and record your message after the beep.

V oice Mail Service 38 V oice mail service V oice mail is an automatic answering service offered by your service provider/telephone company . After you subscribe to this service, your service provider/telephone company’s voice mail system answers calls for y ou when you are unavailable to answer the phone or when your line is busy .

Inte rcom /L oca tor 40 Intercom Intercom calls can be made: – between the handset and ba se unit – between handsets (KX-TG6542) Note: L If you receive an outside call while talking on the intercom, you hear 2 tones. – T o answer the call with the handset, press { OFF } , then pr ess {C} .
Inte rcom /L oca tor 41 T ransferring calls, conference calls Outside calls can be transferred or a conference call with an outside party can be made: – between the handset and ba se unit – between 2 handsets (KX-TG6542) 1 During an outside call, press { INT } to put the call on hold.
Useful Inform ation 42 W all mounting The base unit can be mounted on a wall by revolving the bracket to “WALL” position (default: “DESK” s tand position). Note: L Make sure t hat the wall is st rong enough to support t he weight of the unit. L Drive the screws (not supplied) into the wall.

Useful Inform ation 44 T roubleshooting If you still have difficulties after following the instru ctions in this section, disconnect the base unit’ s AC adaptor , then reconnect the base unit’s AC adaptor . Remove the batteries from the handset, and then insert the batteries into the handset again.
