5 About this user guide This user guide pro vides an overview of using Windo ws® 8 plus the exclusiv e ASUS software applications included with your Notebook PC.

7 Using Windows ® 8 for the rst time After completing the installation proc ess, Windows® 8 directs you to a series of steps where you can cust omize your ac count settings and set user pref erences f or your Notebook PC.
8 Starting up Windows ® 8 T o access W indow s® 8 from Shut Down, Sleep , or Hibernate mode, ref er to the follo wing steps: 1. Press the power button on your Notebook PC . 2. The Windows® 8 lock screen appears after the Notebook PC boots up. Click on the touchpad or press any key on the keyboard to proceed.
9 W indow s® apps This gr oup of applications can be customized to pr ovide a one-stop hub for w ork and play on your Notebook PC. Each of them r epresent a specic function that you can use and share through network connections. IMPORT ANT! A screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pix els or higher is required t o run Windo ws® apps.
10 Hotspots Onscreen hotspots allow y ou to launch prog rams and access the settings of your Notebook PC. The functions in these hotspots can be activated using the touchpad. Hotspots on a launched app Hotspot Action upper left corner (1) Hover y our mouse pointer then click on the recent app ’ s thumbnail t o revert back to that app .

12 Working with Windows ® apps Use your Notebook PC’ s touchpad or keyboard t o launch and customize y our apps. 1. Move your mouse poin ter on the top side of the launched app then wait for the point er to change to a hand icon. 2. Drag then drop the app to the bott om of the screen to close it.
13 Ac cessing A ll Apps Aside from the apps alr eady pinned on your Start screen, you can also open other applications like the exclusiv e ASUS Software apps bundled with your Notebook PC thr ough the All Apps screen. Right-click on the Start screen then click the All Apps icon.
14 Adding mor e apps on the Start screen 1. P osition the mouse pointer ov er the app you want t o add on the Start screen. 2. Right-click on the app to ac tivate its settings .
15 Charm bar The Charm bar is a toolbar that can be triggered on the right side of your screen. It consists of sever al tools that allow y ou to share applications and pr ovide qui ck access f or custom izing the settings of your Notebook PC. Launching the Charm bar NO TE: When called out, the Charm bar initially appears as a set of white icons.
16 Inside the Charm bar S earch This tool allow s you to look f or les, applications , or progr ams in your Notebook PC. Share This tool allows you to share applications via social networking sites or email. Star t This tool r everts the display back to the Star t screen.
17 Snap fea ture Using the Snap fea ture allows y ou to run two applications simultaneously on your Notebook PC. Once activat ed, the Snap bar appears to divide your displa y into two . IMPORT ANT! A screen resolution of at least 1366 x 768 pix els is required t o use the Snap featur e.
18 Wi-Fi connection Acc ess emails, surf the I nternet, and share applications via social networking sites using your Notebook PC’ s W i-F i connection. IMPORT ANT! The Airplane mode should be turned o to enable this function. Disabling Airplane mode Use your Notebook PC’ s touchpad or keyboard t o disable this mode.
19 4. The access poin t you chose gets activated as below . Click Connect to start the net work connection . NOTE: You may be prompted to enter a security key to activate the Wi-Fi connection. 3. Select an access point from the list of available Wi-F i connections.
20 Function keys The function keys on your Notebook PC’ s keyboard can trigger the following c ommands: fn + f1 puts the Notebook PC into Sleep mode fn + f2 turns Airplane mode on or o NO TE: When enabled, the Airplane mode disables all wireless connectivity .
21 fn + C toggles the ASUS Splendid V ideo Enhancement T echnology app to switch between these display color enhancement modes: Gamma Correction, V ivid Mode, T heater Mode, Soft Mode, My Prole, and Normal .
22 LifeF r ame Enhance your w ebcam functions through the LifeF rame app . Cr eate snapshots, edit photos , recor d videos, r ecord audio les , use your webcam as a security monitoring device, and pla y games using this app . NO TE: Some Notebook PC models might require y ou to enable the camera befor e using LifeF rame .
23 LifeF rame functions Camera Use this function to take pictures using your webcam. Camcor der Use this function to take videos through your w ebcam. Monitor This function lets you use your webcam as a security video monitor as it automatically detects movement then captures it on photo.
24 P ow er4Gear Hybrid Optimize the per formance of y our Notebook PC using the pow er saving modes in P ow er4Gear . NO TE: Unplugging the Notebook PC from its po wer adapter automatically switches P ow er4Gear Hybrid to Battery S aving mode. T o launch Po wer4Gear Hybrid Press fn + spacebar Select from these power plan modes.
25 P er formance mode Use this mode when doing high-per formance activities like playing games or conducting business presentations using your Not ebook PC. T o customize, click the P erformance icon inside the P ower4Gear Hybrid window then click on Settings.
26 USB Charger+ USB Charger+ allows y ou to quick charge mobile devic es via your ASUS Notebook PC’ s USB charge por t. This fea ture can also be used even while y our Notebook PC is on sleep , hibernate, or shutdo wn mode (on selected models). NO TE: USB Charger+ is available in y our USB 3.
27 3. Select one or both of these charging options: Enable quick charge when the sy stem is running or Enable quick charge when the sy stem is in slee p/hibernate /shutdow n mode. 4. Move the perc entage slider to the left or to the right to set the limit for charg ing devices.
28 Instant On Save batt er y power while y our Notebook PC is on deep sleep mode (Deep S3) using Instant On. NO TE: Deep S3 is a technology that lets you sav e more batt er y power while y our ASUS Notebook PC is on sleep mode.
29 Remove everything and reinstall Windows Restoring your Notebook PC to its original factory settings can be done using the Remov e everything and reinstall option in PC Settings. Refer to the st eps below to enable this option: IMPORT ANT! Back up all your data befor e enabling this option.
30 Shutting down your Notebook PC Shutting down y our Notebook PC can be do ne on the Start screen or from the desktop . 1. Launch the Charm bar . 2. Click Settings > Po wer > Shut down. To shut down from the desktop, press alt + f4 to launch the Shut Down window.
