18 Notebook PC User Manual B attery Lock - Spring The spring batter y lock is used to keep the battery pack secured . When the battery pack is inser ted , it will automatically lock. T o remove the battery pack, this spring lock must be held in the unlocked position.

IMPORT ANT! DO NO T use emergency shutdown while data is being written; doing so can result in loss or destruction of your data.
38 Notebook PC User Manual Sleep and Hibernate P ower management settings can be found in the Windo ws > Con trol Panel > Hardw are and Sound > Po wer Options . In P ower Options , you can define Sleep/Hibernate or Shut Do wn for closing the displa y panel or pressing the power butt on.
Notebook PC User Manual 39 Sleep is the same as Suspend-to- RAM (STR). This function stores your current data and sta tus in RAM while many components are turned OFF . Because RAM is volatile , it requires po wer to keep (refresh) the data. Click the Window s button and the arrowhead next to the lock icon to see this option.

Notebook PC User Manual 41 Special Keyboard Functions C olored Hot Ke ys The follo wing defines the colored hot keys on the Notebook PC’ s keyboard. The colored commands can only be accessed by first pressing and holding the function key while pressing a key with a colored command .
42 Notebook PC User Manual L CD/Monitor Icons (F8): T oggles between the Notebook PC’ s L CD display and an external monitor in this series: L CD Only -> CRT Only (External Monitor) -> L CD + CRT Clone -> L CD + CR T Extend. Notebook PC User Manual 43 P ower4Gear Hybrid (Fn+Space Bar): This key toggles power sa vings between various power sa ving modes. The power sa ving modes control man y aspects of the Notebook PC to maximize performance versus battery time.
44 Notebook PC User Manual Keyboard as Pointers The keyboard can be used as pointers while Number L ock is ON or OFF in order to increase na vigation ease while entering numeric data in spreadsheets or similar applications. With Number Lock OFF , press [ Fn ] and one of the pointer keys shown below .
Notebook PC User Manual 45 Extended Keyboard (on selected models) An extended keyboard is av ailable on selected models. The extended keyboard has a dedicated numeric keypad for easy number entry . Use [Num Lk / Scr Lk] to t oggle between using the extended keypad as numbers or as pointer directions.
46 Notebook PC User Manual Multimedia C ontrol K ey s (on selec ted models) The multimedia contr ol keys allows for con venient contr olling of the multimedia application. The following defines the meaning of each multimedia control key on the Notebook PC.

48 Notebook PC User Manual 3D Mode Switch Ke y (on 3D models) T oggles to activate the 3D mode function and again to switch back to 2D mode. This function is only available when pla ying a 3D video game or watching a 3D mo vie. Splendid Key (on non-3D models) T oggles “Splendid Video Intelligent T echnology ” function ON and OFF .
Notebook PC User Manual 49 Status Indicat ors T op F ront Po wer Indicator The power indicator lights when the Not ebook PC is turned ON and blinks slowly when the Notebook PC is in the Suspend-to- RAM (Sleep) mode. T his indicator is OFF when the Notebook PC is turned OFF or in the Suspend-to-Disk (Hibernation) mode.
50 Notebook PC User Manual Drive A ctivit y Indicator Indicates tha t the Notebook P C is accessing one or more st orage device(s) such as the hard disk. The light flashes proportional to the access time. Bluetooth / W ireless Indicator This is only applicable on models with internal Bluetooth (BT ) and built-in wireless LAN.
