4 The machine should be installed near an accessible power outlet for easy connect ion and disconnection. Be sure to connect the power cord only to a power outlet that meets the specified voltage and current requirements. Also make certain the out let is properly grounded.
5 ENVIR ONMENT AL INFORMA TION USING THE MANU AL This machine has been designed t o provide convenient copy ing features in a minim um amount of office space and with maximum operationa l ease. To get full use of all machine features , be sure to familiarise yourself with this manual and the machine.
6 CONVENTIONS USED IN THIS MANU AL SPF This operation manual refer s to the Single Pass Feeder as the "SPF". DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MODELS This manual covers the following models. AB series (metric) and inch series references Both specifications are quoted where applicable .

8 1 Chapter 1 BEFORE USING THE MA CHINE This chapter contain s basic information th at should be read before using the machine. P AR T NAMES AND FUNCTIONS Glass cleaner (when the SPF is inst alled) Use to clean the original scanning glass.

10 BEFORE USING THE MACHINE OPERA TION P ANEL ON LINE key ( ) / indicator Press to toggle th e machine betwee n online and off-line. The indicator lig hts up when the ma chine is online, a nd goes off when the machine is off-line . The indicator blinks while the machine is receiving print data and while printing is paused.
11 BEFORE USING TH E MA CHIN E 1 Zoom ke ys ( , ) Use to select any reduction or enlarg ement cop y ratio from 25% to 400% in increments of 1%. 12 PO WER ON AND OFF The power switch is located on the left side of th e machine. PO WER ON Turn the power sw itch to the "ON" position. It will take about 45 seconds for the machine to warm up. While the machine is warming up, the POWER SAVE indicator ( ) will blink.
13 1 LO ADING P APER The paper required indica tor ( ) will light up when ther e is no copy paper in the sele cted paper feed tray, or when the selected paper tr ay is not installed or is impro perly installed. P APER For best results, use only OLIVETTI recomm ended paper.
14 BEFORE USING THE MACHINE LO ADING P APER Make sure that the machine is not copying or printing, an d then follow these steps to load paper. Loading the paper tray 1 Gently lift and pul l out the paper tray until it stops. 2 Push the pressure plat e down until it locks in place.
15 BEFORE USING TH E MA CHIN E 1 Loading the bypass tray 1 Unfold the bypass tray. When feeding large paper such as B4 and A3 (8-1/2" x 14 " and 11" x 17"), pull out the bypass tray exte nsion. 2 Set the paper gu ides to the copy paper width.
16 BEFORE USING THE MACHINE Envelopes Do not use the following envelopes, as misfeeds w ill occur. • Env elopes with metal tabs, clasps , str ings , holes, or windows . • Env elopes with rough fibres , carbon paper , or glossy surfaces . • Env elopes with two or more fla ps.
17 BEFORE USING TH E MA CHIN E 1 4 Squeeze the lock lever of the front guide and slide the front guide to match the width of the paper, and move the left guide to the appropriate slot as marked on the tray.
18 2 Chapter 2 COPY FUNCTIONS This chapter explains basic copying functions such as no rmal copying, reduction or enl argement, and exposure adjustment. NORMAL COPYING This section explains how to ma ke a regular copy. If "Auditing mode" has bee n enabled (p.
19 COPY FUNCTIONS 2 Copying from the SPF 1 Make sure that an or iginal has not been left on the document glass. Close the SPF. 2 Adjust the original guides to the size of the origin al(s). 3 Set the original(s) face up in the document feeder tray. ● Insert the orig inal into th e document f eeder tray as far as it will go.
20 COPY FUNCTIONS Auto paper select mode (When there are two o r more paper trays) When the AUTO PAPER SELECT indicator ( ) lights up, "A uto paper select mode" is enabled.
21 COPY FUNCTIONS 2 MAKING A COPY D ARKER OR LIGHTER Automatic exposure a djustment is initially enabled. This f unction automatically adju sts the copy image according to the original being copied. If you wish to select the exposu re level yourself , follow the step s below.
22 COPY FUNCTIONS SETTING THE NUMBER OF COPIES Press the numeric ke ys to set the n umber of co pies. ● The set number of copies appea rs in the display. A maximum of 999 copies (f actory default setting) can be set. ● If you wi sh to make only a single copy, c opying is possible with the display showing "0 ".
23 COPY FUNCTIONS 2 4 Press the [AUTO IMAGE] key ( ). The AUTO IMAGE indicator ( ) lights up and the appropria te ratio for the original s ize and paper size is selected. (The indicator of the selected ratio will light up. ) 5 Set the number of copies and other copy settings, and then press the [START] key ( ).
24 COPY FUNCTIONS SELECTING THE VER TICAL AND HORIZONT AL COPY RA TIOS SEP ARA TEL Y (XY ZOOM copying) The XY ZOOM fea ture allows the horizo ntal and ve rt ical copy ratios to be chan ged independen tly. Example: Reduction only in the h orizontal direction.
25 COPY FUNCTIONS 2 6 Use the [PRESET RATIO] selector keys ( , ) and [Zoom] keys ( , ) to change the copy ratio in the horizontal direction. Press the [PRESET RATIO] selector keys ( , ) to select a r atio close to the de sired ratio, and then press the [Zoom ] keys ( , ) to adjust the ratio in incre ments of 1%.
26 TW O-SIDED COPYING USING THE BYP ASS TRA Y To perform manual two-sid ed copying, follow these steps. Example: Copying originals A and B onto each side of one sh eet of paper 1 Copy original A. 2 Place original B as shown below. Vertically-oriented original : If the original is oriented vertically, place it in the same orientation as original A.
27 2 DU AL P A GE COPYING A dual page original can be aut omatically separated into two pages during copying. Th is featur e is convenient for making copies of b ooks and other dual page originals on individual shee ts of paper.
28 INTERR UPTING A COPY R UN (Interrupt cop ying) A copy run can be tempora rily interrupted to allow an other copy job to be p erformed. When the ot her job is finished, the copy run will resume using the original copy settings. 1 Press the [INTERR UPT] key ( ) to interrupt the copy run.
29 3 Chapter 3 CONVENIENT COPY FUNCTIONS This chapter explains conv enient copy functions tha t can be used wh en the dual function b oard (PRT 2001) is installed.
30 CONVENIENT COPY FUNCTIONS Using the document glass 1 Place the first original. (p.18) 2 Select the origin al size. (p.18) 3 Press the [SORT/GROUP] key ( / ) to select the desired mode. The modes are select ed in the order "SORT" ( ), "GROUP" ( ), "Off".
31 3 COPYING MUL T IPLE ORIGINALS ONT O A SINGLE SHEET OF P APER (2 IN 1 / 4 IN 1 cop y) Multiple originals can be copied onto a single sh eet of paper in a selected layout pat tern.
32 CONVENIENT COPY FUNCTIONS Using the SPF 1 Place the originals. (p.19) 2 Press the [2 IN 1 / 4 IN 1] key ( / ) to select the mode. The mode is selected in the order "2 IN 1" ( ), "4 IN 1" ( ), "Off". 3 Set the number of copies and other settings, and press the [START] key ( ).
33 3 CREA TING MARGINS WHEN COPYING (Mar gin shift) The MARGIN SHIFT feature, in its initia l settin g, automatically shifts the tex t or image to increase the margin by approximately 10mm (1/2"). 1 Place the original(s). If you are using the document glass, place the side of the original where you wish to create the margin on the right.
34 ERASING SHADO WS AR OUND THE EDGES OF A COPY (Erase cop y) ● This feature is used to erase shadows that ap pear around the edges of cop ies of books an d other thick originals. (EDGE ERASE) ● The feature can also erase the shad ow that appears do wn the centre of books and other originals t hat open up.
35 4 Chapter 4 PRINTER FUNCTIONS The machine includes a USB 1.1 connector and a parallel connector as standard equipment. A computer can be con nected to these connectors to use t he machine as a printer. When the dual funct ion board is used, the followin g functions can be used in ad dition to the stand ard printer functions.
36 USING THE PRINTER MODE The procedure for loadin g paper is the same as for loading copy paper. See "LOADING PAPER". (p.13) B ASIC PR OCEDURE FOR PRINTING The basic pr ocedure for prin ting is explained be low. To us e convenient printer functi ons, see the "Online Ma nual" or the printer driver help file.
37 PRINTER FUNC TIONS 4 OPERA TION IN COPY AND PRINTER MODES Some operation s cannot be performed sim ultaneously when the machin e is being used in printer mode or copy mode.
38 5 Chapter 5 USER SETTINGS This chapter explains how to set the automatic exposur e level, toner save mode/hig h image quality mode, an d the user programs, which are custom settin gs that control f ine points of the machine’s operat ion.
39 5 T ONER SA VE MODE AND HIGH IMA GE Q U ALITY MODE Toner save mode can be enable d to reduce toner consumption by about 10%. The high image quality mode improves copy image quality in the au tomatic and manual exposu re modes by increasing copy density with a slight increa se of toner consumption.

44 SETTINGS FOR A UDITING MODE A U DITING MODE When "Auditing mode" is enabled , a count is kept of the nu mber of copies made by each accoun t (up to 20 accounts can be established), and the counts can be displayed and totalled as necessary.

47 USER SETTINGS 5 Resetting account (program No.15) The copy coun t of a single accoun t or all accounts can be reset to 0. If no acco unt numbers have been established, the error co de "15E" will appear in the display. [Resetting all accounts] Press the [1] key and then press the [START] key ( ).

54 TROUBLESHOO TING Notice page printed If you find tha t a notice page has been printed at the end of a print job, the print data rece ived from the co mputer has not been printed as spe cified. Fix the problem as expla ined below and then tr y printing agai n.
55 6 INDICA T ORS AND DISPLA Y MESSA GES If one of the following indicat ors lights up or one of the following messa ges appears in the display, check the meaning of the indicato r or message in the following table and ta ke appropria te action.
56 MISFEED REMO V AL When a misfeed occurs, the misfeed indicator ( ) and a mi sfeed location indicator ( ) will blink and the machine will automatically stop. Check the blinking misfeed locat ion indicator to identify t he location of the misfeed a nd remove it.
57 TROUBLESHOO TING 6 Section C Remove the misfed original from the exit area. If the misfed original ca nnot be easily remo ved from the exit area, ope n the moveable part of th e document f eeder tr ay and remove the origi nal. 2 Open and close the SPF to make the misfeed location indicator stop blinking.
58 TROUBLESHOO TING MISFEED IN THE MA CHINE 1 Open the bypass tray and the side cover. 2 Check the misfeed location. Remove the misfed paper following the instructions for e ach location in the illustration below. A. Misfeed in th e paper feed area 1 Push gently on both e nds of the front cover and open it.
59 TROUBLESHOO TING 6 B. Misfeed in the fusing area 1 Push gently on both e nds of the front cover and open it. 2 Turn the roller ro tating knob in the direction of the arrow. 3 Carefully remove the misfed paper. Lower the fusing unit release levers to allow easier removal.
60 TROUBLESHOO TING C. Misfeed in the transport area 1 Open the fusing paper guide by pressing down th e projection on either side of t he guide and remove the misfed paper.
61 TROUBLESHOO TING 6 MISFEED IN THE UPPER P APER TRA Y 1 Lift and pull out the upper paper tray and remove the misfed paper. Be careful n ot to tear the misfed paper during removal. 2 Open and close the side cover. The misfeed indicator ( ) will go out.
62 TROUBLESHOO TING MISFEED IN THE LO WER P APER TRA Y 1 Open the lower side cover. Grasp the hand le to open the lower side cover. 2 Remove the misfed paper. Be careful n ot to tear the misfed paper during removal. 3 If the misfed paper is not seen in step 2, lift and pull out the lower paper tray and remove the misfed paper.
63 6 REPLA CING THE T ONER CAR TRIDGE When the toner cartr idge replace ment required indicato r ( ) lights up, the t oner cartridge wi ll need replacement soon. Obtain a ne w car tridge. When the toner car tridge replace ment required ind icator ( ) blinks, the toner cartridge m ust be replaced befo re copying can be resum ed.
64 7 Chapter 7 R OUTINE MAINTENANCE This chapter explains how to keep the machine operat ing smoothly, includin g viewing copy count, the toner level indicator, and clea ning the machine.

66 R OUTINE MAINTENANCE CLEANING THE DOCUMENT GLASS AND SPF/ DOCUMENT CO VER If the document glass, underside of the docume nt cover/SPF, or the scanner for or iginals coming from the SPF (the long narrow glass sur face on the right sid e of the document gla ss) become dirty, the dirt may app ear on copies.
67 ROUTINE MAINTENANCE 7 CLEANING THE BYP ASS TRA Y P APER FEED R OLLER If misfeeds o ccur freq uently when feeding envelopes, thick paper, et c. through t he bypass tray, wip e the paper feed roller at the feed slot of the bypass tray with a soft , clean cloth dampened with alcohol or water.
