General information 8 General information ■ Overview of functions Your device provides many functions that are practical for daily use , such as text and multimedia messaging, calendar, clock, alarm clock, music player, and built- in camera.

Get started 10 Remove the battery as shown. To open the SIM card holder, press slight ly (1) and lift the holder (2). Insert the SIM card properly into the holder.
Get started 11 Replace the batte ry. Replace the back cover (1). Slide the back cover into its place (2). ■ Insert a microSD card Keep all microSD me mory cards out of the reach of small children. A micr oSD ca rd can be loade d with ringing ton es, themes, tones, images and videos.
Get started 12 Use only microSD cards approved by Nokia for use with t his device. Nokia utilizes the approved industry s tandards for memo ry cards but not all o ther brands may function correctly or be fully compatible with this device. Important : Do not remove a microSD card in the middl e of an operat ion when the card is being accessed.
Get started 13 For availability of approved enhancements , please che ck with your dealer. When you disconnect the power cord of any en hancement, grasp and pull the plug, not the cord. 1. Connect the charger to a wall socket. 2. Conn ect the charger to you r device.
Get started 14 Set the time, time zone, and date Enter the local time, select the time zone of your locatio n in terms of the time difference with respect to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), and enter t he date.

Your devic e 17 ■ Navigate the menus The device offers you an extensive rang e of functions, which are grouped into menus. 1. To access the menu, select Menu . To change the menu view, select Options > M ain menu view > List or Grid . To rearrange the menu, scroll to the menu you want to move, and select Options > Organize > Move .

Call functions 21 PIN codes The personal ident ification number (PI N) code and the univers al personal identification number (UPIN) code (4 to 8 digits) help to protect your SIM card against una uthorized use. See Security p. 50. The PIN2 code (4 t o 8 digits) may be su pplied with the SIM card and is required for some functions.
Call functions 22 3. To end the call or to cancel the call at tempt, press the end key, or close the devi ce. To search for a name o r phone number that you have saved in Contacts , see Search for a contact p. 38. To access the list of dialed numbers, press the call key once in the standby mode.
Write te xt 23 To mute the ringing tone, press a volume key when the device is closed, or select Silence when the device is open. Call waiting To answer th e waiting call d uring an active call, press the call key. The first call is put on hold. To end the active call, press the end key.

Messaging 26 Write and send a message 1. Select Menu > Messaging > Create message > Message . 2. Enter one or more phone numbers or e-mail addresses in the To: field. To retrieve a phone number or e-mail address from a memory, select Add . 3.
Messaging 27 Copyright protections may prevent some im ages, music (including ringing tones), and other content from being copied, modified, transferred or forwarded.
Messaging 28 A received flash mes sage is indicated with Message: %U and a few words from the beginning o f the message. To read the mes sage, select Read . To extrac t numbers and addresses from the current mes sage, select Options > Us e detail .

Messaging 34 Add IM contacts When connected to the IM service, in the IM main menu sel ect Option s > A dd contact > By mobile number , Enter ID manually , Search from serv . , or Copy from serve r (depending on service pr ovider). Scroll to a contact.
Messaging 35 To call your voice mailbox, select Menu > Messagi ng > V oice messages > Lis ten to voice messages . To enter, search for, or edit your voice mailbox number, select V oice mailbox number . If supported by the network, indica tes new voice messages.
Messaging 36 Text messages The text message settings affect the send ing, receiving, and viewing of text and SMS e-m ail messa ges. Select Menu > Messaging > Message settings > T ext message .
Messaging 37 MMS creation mode - Allows you to select whether or not to create multimedia messages with re strictions on conte nt. When selecti ng Restricted re ceivi ng device is more likely to support sent messages. Select Free enables you to add various types o f multimedia to the message.

To set a snooze time-out, sele ct S nooze time-out and the time. Stop the alarm The device sounds an alert tone even if the device was switched off.

Push to talk 60 ■ Countdown timer To start the cou ntdown timer, sel ect Menu > Organizer > Timer > Normal timer , enter the alarm time, and write a note te xt that is displayed when the time expires. To start the countdown timer, sele ct Start .
Push to talk 61 You can use PTT to hav e a conversation wi th one person or with a group of people (channel) having compatible devices. While you a re co nnec ted to the P TT se rvic e, you ca n use t he othe r functions of the dev ice. To check availability and costs, and to subscribe to the service, cont act your network operator.

Informat ion, such as the channel, the phone number, or the nicknam e (network service) of the caller are disp lay ed. You can either accept or reject an incoming one-to-one call if you have set the device to first notify you of the one-to- one calls.
Push to talk 65 To delete the request, sel ect Delete . To save a new contact or to add the PTT address to a contact from a received callback request, select Options > Save as or Add to contact .

SIM services 67 Important: Only install and use applicat ions and other software from sources that offer adequate securi ty and protection against harmful software. To download an application, use the Nokia Application Inst aller from PC Suite, or select Menu > Applicatio ns > Optio ns > Downloads > App.
Web 68 With the browser you can view the servic es that use wireless markup language (WML) or ex tensible hypertext markup language (XHTML) on their pages. Appearance may vary due to screen size. You may not be able t o view all details of the internet pages.
Web 69 To browse through the page, scroll in any direction. To select an item, press the call key, or select Select . To enter letters and numbers, press the 0 to 9 keys. To enter special characters, press * . While browsing, you can make a phone call, and save a name and a phone number from a pa ge.

The security module may contain certificates as w ell as privat e and public keys. The certificates are s aved in the securi ty module by the service provider.
PC connect ivity 73 To make a digital signature, select a link on a page, for example , the title of the book you want to buy and its price. Th e text to sign, w hich may include the amount and date, is shown. Check that the head er text is Read and that the digital signature icon is shown.
Battery information 74 ■ Bluetooth Use the Bluetooth technology to connect your compati ble PC to the internet. Your device must have activated a servic e provider that supports internet access and your PC has to support Bluetooth PAN (personal area network).
