ASUS Eee PC 1-3 Safety Precautions The follo wing safety precautions will increase the life of the Eee PC. F ollow all precautions and instructions. Ex cept as described in this manual, refer all servicing to qualified personnel. Do not use damaged power cor ds, accessories, or other peripherals.

ASUS Eee PC 2-3 Built-in Camera (optional) The built-in camera allows picture taking or video recording . D isplay P anel The display panel functions the same as a desktop monitor . The Eee PC uses an active matrix TFT L CD, which provides exc ellent viewing like that of desktop monitors.
2-4 Chapter 2: Knowing the Parts Status Indicators (front) P ower Indicator The power indicator ligh ts when the Eee PC is turned ON and blinks slo wly when the Eee PC is in the Sa ve-to- RAM (Suspend) mode. This indicator is OFF when the Eee PC is turned OFF .

The bottom of the Eee PC can get v er y hot. Be careful when handling the Eee PC while it is in operation or rec ently been in operation.
2-6 Chapter 2: Knowing the Parts B attery Lock - Spring The spring battery lock k eeps the battery pack secure. When the battery pack is inser ted, it will automatically lock. When removing the ba tter y pack, this spring lock must be retained in the unlocked position.

ASUS Eee PC 3-3 Damage may occur if you use a diff erent adapter to power the Eee PC or use the Eee PC’ s adapter to power other electrical devices. If there is smoke, burning scent, or ex treme heat coming from the AC-DC adapt er , seek ser vicing.
3-4 Chapter 3: Getting Star ted Never attempt t o remove the battery pack while the Eee PC is turned ON, as this may result in the loss of working data. Only use battery packs and power adapters supplied with this Eee PC or specifically approv ed by the manufacturer or retailer for use with this model or else damage may occur t o the Eee PC.
ASUS Eee PC 3-5 Emergency Shutdown & Reset In case your operating syst em cannot properly turn OFF or restar t, there are additional wa ys to shutdown and reset y our Eee PC: Shutdown: Hold the power button until the system shuts down.
3-6 Chapter 3: Getting Star ted Touchpad Usage Clicking/T apping - With the cursor over an item, press the left button or use your fingertip to touch the touchpad lightly , k eeping your finger on the touchpad until the it em is selec ted. T he selec ted item will change color .
ASUS Eee PC 3-7 Dragging - Dragging means to pick up an it em and place it anywhere on the screen y ou wish. Y ou c an move the cursor o ver the item you select, and while keeping the lef t button depressed , moving the cursor to the desired loca tion, then release the button.
3-8 Chapter 3: Getting Star ted Keyboard Usage Special F unc tion Ke ys The follo wing defines the colored hot keys on the Eee PC’ s keyboard. The colored c ommands can only be accessed by first pressing and holding the function key while pressing a key with a colored command .
ASUS Eee PC 3-9 T ask Manager Icon (F6) : Initiates the Windows T ask Manager to view the application process or terminates applications . Crossed Speaker Ic on (F7) : Mutes the speaker . Speaker Down Ic on (F8) : Decreases speaker volume . Speaker Up Ic on (F9) : Increases the speaker volume .
3-10 Chapter 3: Getting Star ted Window s icon : Displays the start menu. Menu with cursor icon : Activa tes the proper ties menu and is equivalent t o right-click ing the touchpad/mouse on an object.
ASUS Eee PC 3-11 First-time Startup F or the first time you star t your Eee PC, the Windows wizard will launch automatically and lead you thr ough setting up your prefer ences and some basic information. Follow the wizar d instructions to finish the initialization.

ASUS Eee PC 3-13 T o adjust the display resolution: 1. Right-click the ASUS EeePC T ray Utility icon on the OS task bar to adjust the display r esolution. Selec t the resolution based on your needs. 2. When you select L CD 800 x 600 , move the cursor t o scroll up and down the screen.

When connecting, you may hav e to enter a password . 2. Select the wireless access point you want t o connect to from the list and click Connect to build the connection.
ASUS Eee PC 4-3 4. After a connection has been established , the connection is shown on the list. 5. Y ou can see the wireless network icon on the OS taskbar . The wireless connection icon disappears when you pr ess + (<Fn> + <F2>) to disable the WLAN function.
4-4 Chapter 4: Using the Eee PC C onfiguring a network connection If you want to obtain netw or k access, connect the network cable, with RJ-45 connectors on each end , to the network por t on the Eee PC and the other end to a hub or switch.

Enter the IP address , Subnet mask and Gateway from y our ser vice provider . 4. There is no need to en ter the DNS address unless you want to ov err ide the ser ver pro vided DNS ser ver address.

The ASUS Update utility is capable of updating itself through the Internet. Always update the utility to av ail all its features.
