1 Introduction Overview One-Console NewS tar Switches The NewS tar KVM Switch allo ws you to access multiple computer s from one keyboard, mous e and monitor . There is no interface card o r software to configure. Installation is as easy as connecting cables between the NewS tar KVM Switch and your computers.

5 Figure 2: A cascade NewS tar KVM Switch configuration Throughout this manua l, Master i s the NewSt ar KVM Switch that has a physical keyboard, mouse and mon itor connected to its CONSOLE port. Slave is a NewSt ar KVM Sw itch that has its CONSOLE port connected to a Master 's “PC x” port.
7 Determine the channel address of each c omputer . For computers using PS/2 mouse, connect the computer 's mouse and keyboar d cables to the NewS tar KVM Switch’s connectors marked with a mouse and keyboard respectivel y , as sho wn in figure 4.
9 Optional Rack Mount Accessories Figure 6 shows how to attach optional mounting brackets to the NewS tar KVM Switch unit for standard 19-inch rack cabinet. Figure 6: Attaching rack mount bracket Figure 7 shows how to assemble rack cable support then screw it to the back and inside the rack cabinet vertical post.
11 OSD (On-Screen-Display) Operation NS431D, NS831D and NS1631D Figure 9: OSD screen illustration By hitting the left <CTRL> key twice within two seconds, you may see the ' Hotkey Menu ' if it is enabled (an OSD option).
13 Function key <F2> : T o switch the eye mark ( 1 ) of a computer on or off. First, use the <UP> and <DOWN> arrow keys to highlight it, then press <F2> to s witch its eye mark on or off.
15 Scan T ype Ready PC + 1 : In Scan mode, scan through power-on and eye mark selected computers. Ready PC : In Scan mode, scan through power-on comput ers. 1 Only : In Scan mode, scan throug h any 1 selected computer regardless of computer power status.
17 Hot-key commands Hot-key command is a s hort keyboard sequ ence to select a computer, to activate computer scan, etc. NewS tar KVM S witch interprets keystrokes for hot-keys all the time. A hot-ke y sequence starts with two left <CTRL> keystrokes followed by one or two more keystrokes.
19 Cascade Configuration Connection Before connecting a device (a comput er or a Slave) to the Master under power , you must turn off t he device. The Master must have equal or more ' PC x ' ports than that of the Sl ave, i.e., if NS831D is the master , NS831D an d NS431D can be Slaves, but NS1631D ca n not.

A triangle mark ( ) is placed to the right of the channel name indicating the port is connected to a Slave not a comp uter .
23 T roubleshooting: Ensure that all cables are well seated. Ch eck that keyboard/mouse cables are not swapped. Label and b undle the cables for each computer to avoid confusion w hen connect ed to the NewSt ar KVM Switch.
