Before Using 1-7 Use of Power Supply and Power Cord W A RNI NG Do not handle power plugs with a wet hand. Do not plug/unplug power cords with a wet hand. There is a risk of an elect ric shock. Do not connect the ground wire to a gas pipe. Never connect the ground wire to a gas pipe.

Before Using 1-9 Cleaning and Handling of Internal Devices W A RNI NG Do not disassemble, repair , or alter the server . Unless described herein, never attempt to disassemble, repair , or alter the server . There is a risk of an electric shock or fire as well as malfunction.

The unused po wer cord connectors are covered with the protective cap to prevent short circuits and electrical hazards. When removing the power cord connector from the internal devices, attach the protective cap to the connector .
Before Using 1-1 1 Rack-mount Model (Model 320Fb-MR) W A RNI NG Do not install the server on a nonconforming rack. Install the server on a 19-inch rack confor ming to the EIA standard. Do not use the server without a rack or install it on a nonconforming rack.

2-2 About Operating System INSTALLING Windows Server 2003 For installing an operating system on NEC Express5800/ft series, use NEC EXPRESSB UILDER. IMPORTANT: The NEC Express5800/ft seri es is a precision instrument. You s hould ask maintenance personnel to install it.
About Operating System 2-3 About Windows Server 2003 Use the Express Setup program to install Windows Server 2003. No te the following at installation: IMPORTANT: Complete all the setups such as the mem o ry expansion and the BIOS setting before installing W indows Server 2003.

Chapter 3 Inst alling Server This chapter describes re quirements for usi ng the pr oduct properly and safely , the setup procedures to make NEC Express 5800/ft series ready for use, and how to connect peri pherals.
3-2 Installing Server INST ALLA TION This section describes installation of NEC Express5800/ft series. T ow er Model IMPORT AN T : NEC Express5800/ft series is a precision instrument. Y ou should ask m aintenance personnel to install it. Select a suitable site for tower m odel.
Installing Server 3-3 Do not install NEC Express5800/ft series in suc h places as listed below . Otherwise, the serve r may malfunction. Place where temperatures c hange widely (near a heater , air conditioner , or refrigerator). Place that is subject to intense vibration.
3-4 Installing Server Rack-mount Model Y ou can mount NEC Express5800/ft series on a rack that c onforms to the EIA standards. IMPORT AN T : NEC Express5800/ft series is a precision inst rument. Y o u should as k maintenance personnel to install it. T o install a rack, contact your sales agent or maintenance personnel.
Installing Server 3-5 W A RNI NG Observe the following precautions to use the server safely. There is a risk of a death or serious injury. For details, see “Notes for Safe Handling” in Chapter 1. Do not install the server in non-designated places.
3-6 Installing Server Place that is close to som e equipment that causes power noises (e.g., sparks caused by power-on/of f using a relay). If you must install the server close to such equipment, request your sales agent for sep arate power cabling or noise filter installation.
Installing Server 3-7 Connection Connect peripheral devices to NEC E xpress5800/ft series. The server is provided with co nnectors for wide variety of peripheral devices on its front and rear .
3-8 Installing Server IMPORT AN T : Connection of optional devices In the case of standard configuration, you need to com plete setup of the operating system before mounting optio nal PCI cards or hard disks tha t you purchased separately .
Installing Server 3-9 Insert the power cords to the AC inlets of the power unit. Then, secure the power cord s using the locking spring s on the power units. When completing conn ection to peripheral equi pment, connect the tw o provi ded power cords to the server .

Chapter 4 Windows Setup This chapter describes proce dures for configuring boot m onitoring function, setup, installing W indows, setting dual LAN co nfiguration, setting dual disk co nfiguration and so on.
4-2 Windows Setup Express Setup Use NEC EXPRESSBUILDE R to setup the NEC Express5800/ft series. IMPORT AN T : NEC Express5800/ft se ries is a precision instrum ent. Y ou should ask maintenance personnel to install it. Y ou perform Express Setup for reinstallation.

4-4 Windows Setup S tep 1: Things Required for Setup The following explains the setup proce dure using t he Express Setup program: IMPORT AN T : Because “Express Setup” formats the entire area of the disk used for reinstallation, all data on that disk will be de leted.

If these pre parations are not done, setup cannot be perfo rmed properly . 2-1: Prepare NEC Express5800/ft series With the power of NEC Express5800/ft series off, follow the steps below: 1.

4-10 Windows Setup 3. Press the POWER switch which is l ocated on the front side of the server . IMPORT AN T : Do not turn of f the power before the "NEC" logo appears. Press the Power switch straight w ithout your nail getting caught. After a while, the "NEC" logo will appear on the screen.

Windows Setup 4-15 Flow of Setup Procedures The following flow-chart illustrates the setup procedur es for Express Setup. After rebooting, the installation completes.
4-16 Windows Setup Setup Procedures Express Setup configures the settings for each of the parameters in the Wi zard form. Y ou can also save each of the param eters as one file (parameter file) to a floppy disk. CHECK: T o execute Express Setup with a pa rameter f ile, one em pty 1.
Windows Setup 4-17 5. The message, [Do you want to use the parameters file in order to set up the Express serv er or workstation?] is displayed. In case of using the parameter file, select [Y es]. In case of not using, select [No]. 6. [NOTE] is displayed.

Windows Setup 4-23 S tep 5: Set Dual LAN Configuration The NEC Express5800/ft se ries builds a dual LAN c onfiguration by using "Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Dual Port Network Connec tion" and extended PCI sl ot "Intel(R ) PRO/1000 MT Server Adapter ,” “Intel(R) PRO/1000 MF Server Adapter” moun ted as standar d on the CPU/IO module.
4-24 Windows Setup NEC Express 5800/Fault Tolerant Server Series Duplication Rule Be sure to set the dual configu ration in the server . Also, when you set t he duplex configuration, be su re to use one CPU/IO Module #0 Adapter and one CPU/IO Module #1 Adapter .
Windows Setup 4-25 2. Select one tar get network adapter , righ t-click on it and select [Properties] from the displayed menu to display th e Properties window . 3. Select the [T eaming] tab in the Properties window . Check the radio button of [T eam with other adapters] and click [New T eam…].
4-26 Windows Setup 4. Enter the team nam e, and click [Next >]. 5. Select the check boxes of the adapters you want to include t o the team, and click [Next>]. 6. Select “Adapter Fault T o lerance” or “Adaptive Load Balancing” as a team mode.
Windows Setup 4-27 7. Click [Finish]. 8. Start a c omma nd prompt, and confirm the physical MAC address of the team adapter with ipconfig /all. 9. Select the team adapter that ha s been set, right-click on it and select [Properties] from the menu displayed to display the Properties window .
4-28 Windows Setup 10. Select the [Advanced] tab in the Properties window . Select [Locally Administered Address] from the [Settings] list box, and enter the MAC address of team adapter that you have checked to the [V alue:] text box, and click [OK].

4-30 Windows Setup 5. After the system has restarted, display [Disk Management] again and set the hard disks for creating mirror volum e. IMPORT AN T : When the hard disk status is “Not In itialized,” right-click that hard disk and initialize it.
Windows Setup 4-31 7. Right-click the dynamic disk volume for cr e ating mirror , and click [Add Mirror…]. IMPORT AN T : When you click [A dd Mirror…], the [L ogical Disk Mana ger] dialog box will appear . This is not an error . Click [OK]. If you restart the system while creating m irror , mirroring will not be completed.
4-32 Windows Setup S tep 7: Up date Software If you use Ge miniEngine Control Software UPDA TE CD-ROM, see “Ins talling Gem iniEngine Control Software” (pa ge 6-13) to update the so ft ware. When there are other update modul es, apply them in this step.
Windows Setup 4-33 S tep 9: Create V olume For NEC Express5800/ft series, you need to create m irrors for all volumes. In case of creating a ne w volume except for the one t hat stores the system partition, see “Hard Disk Configurations that can be built on the NEC Exp ress5800/ft series”on the sep arate User ’ s Guide.
4-34 Windows Setup 6. Open the [Security] pr operty sheet and m ake settings as follows: x Add the community name ent ered in 4 to [Accepted community names]. x Set its authority to [READ CREA TE] or [READ WRITE]. x Select [Accept SNMP packets from any host].
Windows Setup 4-35 S tep 1 1: Enable Boot Monitoring Function When necessary for system operation , enable the “Boot Monitoring ” setting which has been disabled in “St ep 3: Disable B oot Monitoring Function” (page 4-9) . Or , see “Step 3: Disable Boot Monitoring Function” (pa ge 4-9) and set appropriate tim e (default is 10 min.
4-36 Windows Setup S tep 12: Make Settings for Failure Management Make the following settings beforehand to ensure quick recovery from failure. Set Memory Dump (Debug Information) This section explains the setting for collecting memory dum p (debu g information) in the server .
Windows Setup 4-37 4. Enter the location, where de bug information is to be written, in the text box. When writing debug information under the file nam e "MEMOR Y .DMP" in the D drive: D:MEMOR Y .DMP IMPORT AN T : [Complete memory dum p] should be sp ecified for writing debug information.
4-38 Windows Setup 5. Click [Settings] in th e [Performance] box. The [Performance Options] window appears. 6. Click the [Advanced] tab on the [Perform ance Options] window .

Change the value set for [In itial Size] in the [Paging file size for selected drive] box to the [Recommended] val ue or more, and then cli ck [Set]. IMPORT AN T : Be sure to create the file in the size m ore than [Recommended] value in the OS partition.
4-40 Windows Setup 9. Click [OK]. A message is displayed asking you to restart the system depending on the change d settings. Restart the system according t o the messages.
Windows Setup 4-41 Set Dr . W atson Dr . W atson of W indows Server 2003 is a deb ugger for application er rors. When detecting an application error , Dr . W atson diagnoses the NEC Express5800/ft se ries, and records the diagnostic information (log).
4-42 Windows Setup Inst all a Network Monitor A network monitor is useful for examining t he causes of network failures and taking t he countermeasures. T o use the netwo rk monitor , you need to restart the system after the installation. It is recommende d to install the network monitor before a failure occurs.
Windows Setup 4-43 6. If a message is displayed askin g you to insert "W indows Server 2003 R2 En terprise Edition CD-ROM,” follow t he instructi ons on the screen. Close the menu that appears by inserting th e CD-ROM. T o close the menu, click the [X] mark on the m enu.
4-44 Windows Setup S tep 13: Back up System Information After setting up the system, back up the system inform ation using the Off-line Maintena nce Utility . W ithout backup for system information, t he information and setting s that are specific to your server cannot be restored if the server is repaire d.
Chapter 5 Procedures af ter Completion of Inst allation This chapter describes how you install managem ent utilities, how you back up system information, and setup of PCs on the network. Y o u may need to confirm these pro cedures while the system is running.

5-8 Procedures after Completion of Inst allation 7. Enter the path in which NEC ESMPRO Agent is installed an d click the [Next] button. The NEC ESMPRO Agent module is installed below the ESM directory of the root partition in default. If no problem is found, click t he [Next] button without any m odification.
Procedures af ter Completion of Installat ion 5-9 Setup of NEC ESMPRO Agent The settings of installed NEC ESMPRO Ag ent remain unchanged from th ose at shipment. Click the [Start] button, [Setting], and [Control Pan el] sequentially to open [Control Panel].
