GB - 10 Nev er direct discharge tow ards persons or proper ty that ma y be injured or damaged by thrown objects. Use extreme caution on g rav el surfaces . Stay aler t f or hidden hazards or traf fi c. Adjust Runners so Scraper Blade does not contact gra vel.
GB - 11 This product is equipped with an internal combustion type engine . DO NO T use unit on or near any unimprov ed, f orest-cov ered or brush covered land unless e xhaust system is equipped with a spark arrester meeting applicable local, state or f ederal la ws.
GB - 12 T ools Required: • Pliers • Open-End Wrenches: 3/8, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16 in. and/or Adjustable Wrench • Tire Gauge ASSEMBL Y Unfold Handlebar (Figure 4) 1. Loosen wing knobs and release J-bolts from lower handlebar . 2. Unfold upper handlebar and align handlebar holes.
GB - 13 Check Tire Pressure Check tire pressure and adjust to the pressure listed on tire sidew all. Check A uger Gearcase Oil Check oil le vel in auger gearcase (see Service and Adjustments ). Check Engine Crankcase Oil IMPORT ANT: Engines are shipped without 5W -30 oil in crankcase.
GB - 14 CONTROLS AND FEA TURES See Figure 1 for all Controls and F eatures locations. T raction Drive Clutch - Left Hand Bail Squeeze the T raction Dr iv e Clutch Bail against the Handlebar (1) to engage wheel drive f or propelling unit. Forward speed will v ar y according to snow depth and moisture content.
GB - 15 Throttle The throttle controls the engine speed. T o increase or decrease the engine speed, adjust to: 1. F ast (normal or warm star ts) 2. P ar t-Throttle 3. Slow (cold weather starts) 4. Stop (engine is off) Electric Starter The electric star ter will star t a properly choked and cranked engine when the starter button is pushed.
GB - 16 FILLING FUEL T ANK Fuel Shut-Off V alve IMPORT ANT: The fuel shut-off valv e MUST be in the closed position prior to transpor ting the unit. The fuel shut-off valv e has two positions: • Closed P osition: Use this position to service, transpor t, or store the unit.
GB - 17 7. Gr asp star ter handle and pull rope out slowly until it pulls harder . Let rope rewind slowly . 8. Pull rope with a r apid continuous full arm stroke . Let rope rewind slo wly . IMPORT ANT: DO NO T let Star ter Handle snap against Star ter .
GB - 18 Ariens Dealers will provide any service or adjustments which may be required to k eep your unit operating at peak ef fi ciency . Should engine service be required, contact an Ar iens dealer or an authorized engine manuf acturer's service center.
GB - 19 2. Add lubricant if required. Allow oil to drain to lev el of plug and replace plug. IMPORT ANT: Use only Ariens special gear lubricant L-2 (Part Number 00008000). GENERAL LUBRICATION IMPORT ANT: Wipe each fi tting clean before and after lubrication.
GB - 20 DISCHAR GE CHUTE DEFLECTOR De fl ector must sta y in selected position while throwing snow . T o adjust, loosen then retighten hardware to desired de fl ector drag f orce (Figure 11). DISCHAR GE CHUTE If chute does not stay in position while operating, tighten nut on carriage bolt at pivot point to increase tension on spring (Figure 12).
GB - 21 2. Driv e shear bolt through hole (if shear bolt was brok en this will drive remaining par t from shaft). 3. Secure shear bolt with n ut. SPEED SELECTOR ADJUSTMENT T o adjust (Figure 15): 1. Remo ve hair pin from adjustment piv ot pin. 2. Pull shift rod and adjustment piv ot pin out of speed selector lev er .
GB - 22 ATTACHMENT DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT Remove Attac hment Drive Belt (Figures 16 and 17) 1. Shut off engine , remov e key , disconnect spark plug wire and allow unit to cool completely . 2. Remo ve two scre ws securing belt cover to unit and remov e belt cov er .
GB - 23 T RACTION DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT NO TE: Housing and frame must be tipped apar t and attachment drive belt remov ed from engine sheav e in order to change traction drive belt (Figures 16 and 17). 1. Remo ve attachment drive belt (See Remov e Attachment Drive Belt ).
GB - 24 1. Remo ve belt co ver . 2. Chec k belt alignment (Figure 17). Engine sheav e and attachment pulley must align v er tically . Also , belt must be centered in the idler pulley . T o align, mov e engine sheav e: a. Loosen set screws. b . Slide sheav e and key to desired position.
GB - 25 T RACTION DRIVE CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT If drive slips, adjust tr action clutch to compensate for friction disc wear . T o test traction clutch (Figure 20): 1. Put unit in fi rst f orward speed. 2. Without engine running, push unit f orward while slowly moving the tr action drive clutch bail toward the handlebar .
GB - 26 FRICTION DISC REPLACEMENT Remove Friction Disc (Figure 22): 1. Shut off engine , remov e key , disconnect spark plug wire and allow unit to cool completely . 2. Tip the unit up onto front housing on a lev el surf ace. 3. Remo ve loc kpins from wheel axles and remov e wheels.
GB - 27 SHORT T ERM IMPORT ANT: NEVER spra y unit with high pressure water or store unit outdoors. Run with attachment clutch engaged a fe w minutes after each use to free unit of any loose or melting snow . Close fuel shut-off valv e. Inspect unit for visib le signs of wear , breakage or damage.
GB - 28 T ROUB LESHOOTING PROBLEM PROB ABLE CA USE CORRECTION Engine will not crank/start. 1. Fuel tank is empty . 2. Fuel shut-off v alve closed. 3. Build up of dirt and residue around gov ernor/ carburetor . 4. K ey Switch not in run position. 5. Electric star ter not functioning.
