4 - 12 4.2 SERVICE POSITIONS Arien s Dealers will pro vide any s ervice or adjustm ents which m ay be requi red to keep your uni t operating at peak effici ency . Shoul d engine s ervice be r equired , contac t an Ariens dealer or an authoriz ed engine manufac turer ’s service center .
4 - 13 T o add fuel to the fuel tank: 1. Refuel th e unit onl y in a wel l ventilate d, open area. 2. Stop the engine an d allow to cool. 3. Clean th e fuel cap and the area around th e fuel cap to p revent dirt from en tering the fue l tank. Remove the cap fr om the fuel tan k.
4 - 14 4.6 AUGER GEARCASE IMPORT ANT : T oo muc h lubrican t may cau se excess ive leakag e. T oo little lubricant will cause gear and/or bearing dam age. Prop er oil lev el must be maintai ned for oper ation. Gear cases ar e fil led t o the c orrec t leve l at th e facto ry .
4 - 15 4.8 ATTACHMENT DRIVE BELT T o Replace the Attachment Dri ve Belt: 1. Shut off engi ne and all ow to cool co mpletely . 2. Pl ace u nit in Belt S er vice P osit ion. 3. Support handlebar. 4. Loosen l ower cap sc rews holdi ng attach ment to frame (one on each s ide).
4 - 16 T o Replace the T raction Drive Belt 1. Place unit in the B elt Servi ce Positio n. 2. Pull idler away from belt ( Figure 6) and rem ove belt from id ler pull ey , engine and dr ive pul ley (it may b e neces sary to turn e ngine pul ley using re wind starter ).
4 - 17 The chute bracket an d gear str ap are also slotted fo r verti cal adju stment of t he disch arge ch ute. Loosen mountin g nut and move disc harge chute up or down so that chu te ring is approximat ely cent ered between retainer cl ip and lower rin g.
4 - 18 Attachment Clutch/I mpeller Brake T o check i mpeller br ake: 1. T ip unit forward o nto auger/im peller h ousing. 2. Remove bottom cov er by remov ing four ca p screws . 3. Measur e distance b etween imp eller brake s hoe pad and be lt with atta chmen t clutch eng aged (Figure 10).
4 - 19 T raction Drive Clutch Adjus t traction clutch t o compen sate for wear of friction wheel whe n slippage occurs. T o adjus t traction clu tch: 1. Place speed se lecto r in First (1) forwar d and tip unit forward onto housing . 2. With on e hand, pul l the wheel drive cl utch arm upward unt il a positiv e stop is obtain ed (Figure 12).
5 - 20 5.1 LOWER HANDLEBAR Remove nut and was her attachi ng lower hand lebar to each s ide of frame and remove lower han dlebar . Check parts for we ar or replac ement. Assem ble, usi ng reve rse proce dure. 5.2 ATTACHMENT CLUTCH HAN DLE Remove (2) push n uts, pin and ( 2) screws holding Clutch Hand le and piv ot to upper handleb ar .
6 - 21 6.1 ENGINE T ROUBLESHOOTING The follo wing trou bleshoot ing chart i s to be used t o isola te engine p roblems and give po ssible causes and correc tive action responses . The troubles hooting key is generic and can be used for sever al types of e ngines.

7 - 23 7.1 WHEELS AND AXLE The wheel s are bolted direct ly to the axl e shaft. T o remov e the wheels, loosen th e bolt and nut. Push the bolt out and slid e the wheel hub off of the ax le. T o remove the a xle, 1. Place the unit in th e Upright Service Pos ition.
8 - 24 8.1 FRICTION WHEE L 1. T o repla ce frictio n wheel, tip un it up onto housing on a lev el surfac e. 2. Remove bottom cov er by remov ing four ca p screws . 3. Remove right hand wh eel, tire. 4. Remove bearing flan ge scr ews on the ri ght hand side of t he frame.
8 - 25 8.2 FRICTION WHEEL CARRIER The fric tion whee l carrier is not repaira ble and i s replaced when neede d. Inspec t the carri er when the fric tion w heel is serv iced. 8.3 DRIVE PLATE The dri ve plate can be removed and insp ected when the dri ve system, fr iction pla te, and axl e have be en remov ed.
9 - 26 9.1 AUGER/IMPELLER REMOVAL Place unit in the B elt Servi ce Positio n. 1. Remove three nuts ho lding pul ley to hu b and remov e pulley an d key . 2. Loosen set screw in hub and remove hub. 3. Remove three nuts ho lding bea ring fla nge to housin g and rem ove bearin g flange (F igure 20).
9 - 27 9.4 DISCHARGE CHUTE T o remove discharge ch ute unbol t the chute posi tioning assem bly from the discharg e chute. Tip discharg e chute fo rward and l ift. NOTE: Chute mus t rotate free ly . T o adju st the gears tighten or loosen the lower nut (Figure 21) .
9 - 28 9.5 RUNNERS Runners should be adjus ted as co ndi tio ns require (Fig ure 22). Rai sing or lo wering r unners co ntrols distan ce scrape r blade is held abov e surface being cleared. When op erating m achine on gr avel surfac e, lower runner s so tha t housing will not pick up gr avel.

Remove six bol ts that hol d right and l eft gear ca se hal ves tog ethe r (Fi gur e 23). 3.
