W ireless Gateway User Guide 2 • Multi Segment LAN Support. LA Ns contain ing on e or more segm ents are supported, via the Wireless Gatew ay's built- in static routing table. If NA T (Network A ddress T ransla- tion) is disabled, the Wireless Gateway w ill fun ction as a static router.

W ireless Gateway User Guide 4 NA T Firewall Protection The firewall protection provided by the Wireless Gatew ay is an intrin sic side effect of NAT (Netw ork Address T ranslation). A ll users on th e LAN sh are a single external IP address. From the extern al viewpoin t, there is no netw ork, only a sing le device.
Introduct ion 5 Wireless On - Wireless connection available; Wireless Access Point is ready f or use. Off - No Wireless con nection available. Flashing - Data is transmitted or received via the Wireless access point. This includes "netw ork traffic" as w ell as user data.

8 Chapter 2 Installation This Chapt er covers the physical installation of t he Wireles s Gateway. Requirements • Ethern et LA N (10/100BaseT) and the TCP/IP prot ocol.
Installatio n 9 2. Insert Wirel ess PCMCIA card Ensuring the supplied W ireless PCMCIA card is the right way up, insert it into the slot on the rear. Push it firm ly un til it clicks into position. 3. Connect LAN Cable Connect a standard LA N cable from a 10BaseT or 100BaseT Hub on y our LA N to the “HUB” port on the Wireless Gateway .
10 Chapter 3 Configuration This C hapter provides detai ls of the configur ation process. Overv iew This chapter describes th e procedure for: • Quick setup • Wireless access poin t configu ration • Using th e Status screens PCs on your local LA N may also req uire config uration.
Configurati on 11 Where use o f a certain feat ure requires t hat PCs or other LAN devices be conf igured, this is also explained in the relevant chapter. Configurati on Program The Wireless Gatew ay contain s an HTT P server. This enables y ou to connect to it, an d config- ure it , using your W eb B ro wser.

Configurati on 13 Quick Setup Screen The Quick Setup screen, like the ex ample below, w ill be displayed wh en you f irst connect. Figure 5: Quick Setup Screen Quick Setup - Ov erview This screen contains all the basic data to make th e Wireless Gateway operational.
W ireless Gateway User Guide 14 • Wireless Access Point To use the Wireless Access Point: • All Wireless devices m ust have the same SSID. Eith er the Wireless Access Point or the Wireless clients can be changed to ensure th is. • All Wireless devices m ust have the sam e settings for WEP (Wired Equivalent Pri- vacy ).
Configurati on 15 WA N Enable Ethernet Port Normally , this should be left at the default valu e of Enabled . • If no DSL or Cable modem is connected to the WA N (Ethernet) port, then this setting should be Disabled. • If Internet access v ia the Serial Port is Enabled, this setting w ill be automatically Disabled.
W ireless Gateway User Guide 16 WEP Stat us This will state "Enabled" o r "Disabled ". The default is "Disabled ". • In order to use th e Wireless Gatew ay's access point, the client wireless stations must have the same settings fo r WEP .
Configurati on 17 Wireless Screen The Wireless Access Point settings mu st match the other Wireless stations. To change the Wireless Gateway 's default settings f or the Wireless Access Point, use the Wireless link on th e main menu to reach the Wireless screen.
W ireless Gateway User Guide 18 SSID (ESSID) To commu nicate, all Wireless stations MUST use th e same SSID/ESSID. The default value is default Note! The SSID is case sensitive.
Configurati on 19 Existing Sta tions • This lists the Wireless stations you h ave entered. If you hav e not entered any stations, this list will be em pty. • To delete an entry, select it, and click the "Delete" button. Multiple entries m ay be selected by hold down the CTRL key while select- ing.

Configurati on 21 DHCP Table Use this link to view the IP Addresses wh ich have been allocated to LAN dev ices, or the Dial-in user, by th e DHCP Server function . The DHCP Table contains the follow ing data: • Port - The port w hich the DHCP client us ed to access this device.

PC Configurat ion 29 Internet A ccess If y ou are using th e Wireless Gateway for Intern et access: • Ensure that th e DSL modem , Cable modem, or other permanen t connection is functional. • Use the f ollowing procedure to configu re your Brows er to access the Intern et via the LA N, rather than by a Dial-up con nection.
W ireless Gateway User Guide 30 Printing Setup The Wireless Gatew ay prov ides print ing s upport for 2 m ethods of printi ng from Window s: • Print Port Driver. After in stalling the Print Port Driver, Windows users can print directly to the Wireless Gatew ay .
PC Configurat ion 31 If you see the fo llowin g error message, eith er install Intern et Explorer 4 or later, or follow the procedur e in the "Trouble Shooting - Printing" section of A ppendix A . 7. A pop- up messag e will inf orm y ou if the port has been created successfu lly, and th en the Window s Add Printer w izard will start.

You should advise client PCs of the Server n ame and this printer name. 9. Click OK to save and exit. Window s 2000 Server Configuration The LPD/LPR Port is not enabled by default.

PC Configurat ion 39 Other Unix Sy stems For Internet A ccess v ia the Wireless Gateway • Ensure th e "Gateway " field for your n etwork card is set to the IP Address of the Wireless Gateway .
40 Chapter 5 DHCP This Chapt er covers the use of D HCP, using either an existing DHCP Ser ver or the W ireless Gat eway's DHCP Server function. Overv iew If your LAN d oes no t use DH CP, and you d o no t wish to use DH CP, you can igno re t his chapter.
DHCP 41 To Configure y our PCs to use DHCP This is the default setting f or T CP/IP under Windows 95/98/ME. See Chapter 4 – Client Configur ation for the procedu re to check these settin gs.
42 Chapter 6 Serial P ort This Chapter details using the Serial (RS232) Por t, either for Internet Access or Dial-i n use. Overv iew The Serial (RS232) port can be u sed for Internet A ccess or to provide RA S (Dial-in) access to you r LAN . • If us ed for Internet access, th e WAN (Ethernet) Port cannot be us ed.
Serial Port 43 Data - Seri al Port Scr een Modem Type Select None if nothing is connected to the Serial Port, or you do not w ish use to use the Serial Port. For Perm anent Connectio n (leased line) : • Ensure th e Serial Line Speed is set to m atch the speed on your leased line.
W ireless Gateway User Guide 44 IP Address from ISP Select the appropriate o ption: • Dynamic This is the def ault, and the m ost comm on. Leave this selected if y our ISP allocates an IP Address to the Wireless Gateway upon con- nection.
Serial Port 45 Status Use this link to view th e Serial Por t status screen, described later in this chapter. Modem Pr operties Screen This screen will be displayed w hen the "Modem Properties" button on the Serial Port screen is clicked. Norm ally, it is not neces sary to access th is screen.

Serial Port 47 Dial -in Users This section describes how to create an d manage rem ote users w ho w ish to u se the Wireless Gateway 's RAS Dial- in facility. For details of conf iguring th e remote PC to use Dial- in access, refer to Dial-in in Chapter 4 - Client PC Configur ation .

Advanced I nternet 73 DMZ This feature, if enabled, allows one (1) compu ter on your L AN to be exposed to all u sers on the Internet, allow ing un restricted 2-way commu nication betw een the "DMZ" PC and other Internet users or Serv ers.

Appendix A - Troubleshooti ng 83 Printing Problem 1: When I tried to install the Printing software for Peer-to-Peer printing, I received an error m essage and the installation was aborted. Solution 1: This may be caused b y an existing installation of the printer port softw are.

Appendix A - Troubleshooti ng 87 Problem 3: On the LAN, there is an IP Address conflict involving the Dial-in PC. How do I set the IP Add ress allocated to the Dial-in PC? Answer 3: This problem can only occur if the Wireless Gatew ay's DHCP Server is Disabled.
