GB - 5 1. W ARNING! 2. DANGER! 3. DANGER! SAFETY RULES Read, understand, and follow al l safety practices in Owner/Operator Manual before beginning assembly or operating. Failure to follow instructions could result in personal injury and/or d amage to unit.
GB - 6 DO NOT operate near drop-offs, di tches, or embankments. Unit can s uddenly turn over if a wheel is over the edge of a cliff or ditch, or if an edge caves in. Falling snow , fog, etc. can reduce vision and cause an accident . Operate unit only when there is good visibility and light.
GB - 7 Never leave a running unit unattended. AL WA YS shut off engine before l eaving unit. AL WA YS remove key to prevent unauthorized use. Never carry passengers. Check clutch and brake operation frequently . Adjust and service as required. All motion of drive wheels and auger/impeller must stop quickly when cont rol levers are released.
GB - 8 PACKAGE CONTENTS ASSEMBLY T ools Required : • Pliers • Open-End Wrenches: 3/8, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16 in. and/or Adjustabl e Wrench •T i r e G a u g e Unfold Handleba r (Figure 4) 1. Remove the lower and loosen the upper hardware on the handlebar assembly .
GB - 9 Inst all Discharge Chu te (Figure 5) 1. Grease underside of discharge chute ring (if not already greased). 2. Remove mounting hardware from the bottom of the chute pedestal. 3. Install discharge chute over opening in the auger housing and secure pedestal to auger ho using with hardware removed in step 2.
GB - 10 Check T ire Press ure Check tire pressure and adjust to the pressure listed on tire sidewall. Check Auger Gear case Oil Check oil level in auger gearcase (see Check Auger Gearc ase on page 19). Check Engine Crankca se Oil IMPORT ANT : The engine is shipped with 5W-30 oil in crankcase.

GB - 12 CONTROLS AND FEA TURES See Figure 7 for all Controls and Features locations. Dual Handle Interlock When Attachment Clutch and th en T raction Drive Clutch are engaged, the Attachment Clutch will remain engaged (leve r down) if released. T o stop attachment, release T raction Drive Clutch and both clutches will disengage.
GB - 13 S peed Selector Position the Speed Selector in the appropriate speed notch to control forward and reverse t ravel. Forward: (6) Fastest (1) Slowest Reverse: (1) Slow (2) Fast IMPORT ANT : DO NOT change motion from forward to revers e with clutch engaged.
GB - 14 Recoil St arter Handle When pulled, handle will turn engine over . IMPORT ANT : DO NOT let handle snap back against starter . See St arting and S hut Off on page 1 6. Snow Clean-Out T ool (Figure 9) T o clear the discharg e chute: 1. Shut off the engine.
GB - 15 Scraper Blade The scraper blade allows the back of t he housing to keep better contact wit h the surface being c leared. It also prevents damage to the hous ing from normal use . IMPORT ANT : DO NOT allow Scraper Blade to wear too far or Auger/Impeller housing will become damaged.
GB - 16 5. Fill fuel t ank to within 1/2 in. (1.2 cm) below bottom of filler neck with unleaded gasoline. 6. Replace Fuel Cap and tighten. 7. AL WA YS clean up any spilled fuel. PRE- ST A RT 1. Frozen Impeller IMPORT ANT : Before starting engine, check impeller to be s ure it is not frozen.
GB - 17 9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 until engine start s. (If engine does not start, ref er to TROUBLESHOOTING on page 30.) 10. Adjust choke as need ed. 1 1. Set thr ottle to P art T hrot tle or Slow position for adaptation to out s ide temperature or travel.
GB - 18 Ariens Dealers will provide any service or adjustments which may be required to keep your unit operating at peak efficiency . Should engine service be required, contact an Ariens dealer or an auth orized engine manufacturer's service center .
GB - 19 CHECK CLUTCH OPERATION Auger / impe ller must stop within 5 seconds when attachment clutch/impeller brake lever is released. Wheels must st op quickly when traction drive clutch lever is released.
GB - 20 SCRAPER BLADE IMPORT ANT : Damage to auger/impeller housing will result if blade wears down too far. Scraper blade is adjustable to compensate for wear . T o adjust sc raper blade: 1. Tip unit back onto handlebar , support housing and loosen nuts retaining blade 2.
GB - 21 SHEAR BOLTS IMPORT ANT : Use only Ariens shear bolts for replacement. Use of any other type of s hear bolt may result in severe damage to unit and may void the warranty . Occasionally a foreign object may enter the auger/impeller housing and jam the auger , breaking shear bolts which secure the auger to the shaft (Figure 15).
GB - 22 SP EED SELECT OR ADJUSTMENT T o adjust (Figure 1 8): 1. Disconnect adjustment pivot pin from speed select or arm. Save ha rdware for reinstallati on. 2. Place the speed selector on dash panel in the fastest forward speed position. 3. Turn the speed selector arm straight down towards the ground as far as it will go.
GB - 23 7. Remove hex bolts securing housing to frame (two on each side). Tip housing and frame apart on pivot pin. 8. Remove attachment drive belt from attachment pulley (hold brak e away from belt). Replac e Atta chment Driv e Belt 1. Place new belt onto attachment pulley .
GB - 24 T RACTION DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT NOTE: Housing and frame must be tipped apart and attachment drive belt removed from engine sheave in order to change traction drive belt (Figures 19, 20, 21 and 24) 1. Remove attachment drive belt (S ee Remove Attachment Drive Belt on page 22).
GB - 25 2. Loosen jam nut on cable adjustment barrel, and then turn the adjustment barrel down to shorten cable and remove all c able slack. See F igure 24. 3. With the at tachment clutch disengaged, check that the attachment idler arm lightly touches the frame.
GB - 26 Adjust th e Atta chment Clutch Cable S pring Extension 1. Check the attachment clutch cable spring extension. Measure the length o f the attachment clutch cable spring with the clutch lever disengaged. Then measure the attachment clutch spring with the clutch lever engaged.
GB - 27 Check Belt Finge r Clear a nce (Figure 29) 1. With c lutch lever engaged, the belt finger located opposit e the belt idler must be less than 1/8 in. (3,2 mm ) from belt, but not touching the belt . T o adjust belt finger , loosen the bolt s and move the finger to the proper position.
GB - 28 FRICTIO N DISC R EPLAC EMENT Remove Friction Disc (Figu re 31 and Figure 32): 1. Shut off engine, remove key , disconn ect spark plug wire and allow unit to cool completely . 2. Place the unit into the service position on a level surface. 3. Remove lockpins from wheel axles and remove wheels.
GB - 29 SHORT T E RM IMPORT ANT : NEVER spray unit with high pressure wa ter or store unit outdoors . Run with attachment clutch engag ed a few minutes after each use to free unit of any loose or melting snow . Close fuel shut-off valve. Inspect unit for v isible signs of wear , breakage or damag e.
GB - 30 TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEM PROBABLE CAUSE CORRECTION Engine wi ll not crank/ start. 1. Fuel tank is empty . 2. Fuel shut-off valve closed. 3. Build up of dirt and residue around governor/carburetor . 4. Key Switch not in run position. 5. Electric starter not functioning.
