2 Plan v olume activation of Of fice 2013 P revie w Audience : IT Professionals You can plan the de ployment of Off ice Acti vation Technologies f or volum e activation of Off ice 2013 Preview in several st eps. Before you read this article, we recom m end that you read Vol ume activation overview for Of fice 2010 .
3 You do not have to e nter a product ke y for Office 2013 Preview KMS clients. You only have to enter a KMS host ke y on your KMS host c omputer. If you decide to use M AK, enter the product k ey either t hrough the Of fice Custom ization Tool (OCT) or the Config.
4 connect to the KMS host f or activation b y using anon ymous remote procedure calls (RPCs) thro ugh TCP comm unications port 1688 , which is t he default port num ber when you enable the firewall o n a KMS host.
5 W indows Server 2008 R2 Publication of th e K MS service The KMS service uses service (SRV) resourc e records (RRs) in DNS to st ore and communicate the locations of KMS hosts. KMS hosts use d ynamic updat es, if available, to pub lish the KMS SRV RRs.

16 Customize S etup before inst alling Office 2013 Audience : IT Professionals To custom ize Setup for W indows Installer-base d Office 2013 Prev iew, follow the proc edures in this article before you begin the installation. In Office 2013 Previe w (as in Off ice 2010 and Off ice 2007), Setup controls th e complete installat ion.

23 Modify existing inst allations You can also use a Setup c ustomization file to ch ange an existing inst allation. Because a Setup custom ization file is an expanded form of a W indows Installer .msp f ile, you apply the custom ization file to the user's com puter exactly as you wou ld a software update.
