1 I NTRODUCTION Product Overvie w Metrologic's MS9590i Voyage rGS is the first Voyager-branded product design ed specifically for the light-indust rial marketplac e. The VoyagerGS provides an aggressive solution for scanning al l standard 1D bar codes in an ergon omic form factor that maximizes comfort and reduc es fatigue.

6 I NTRODUCTION Labels Every MS9590 i and MS9591 i has a serial nu mber label located on the undersid e of the scanner head and molded text on the scanner handle. The label and molded text provide important information su ch as the unit’s dat e of manufacture, serial number, CE and caution information.
7 S CANNER I NSTALLATION RS232 (-14) 1. T urn off the host device. 2. Plug the 10-p in RJ45 end of the PowerLink cable into the 10-pin socket on the scanner. There will be an audible click when the connector lock engages. 3. Connect the 9- pin D-type connector of the PowerLink cable to the proper COM port on the host device.

16 Figure 17. S CANNER O PERATION Default Modes of Operation There are two default modes of operati on available with the MS9590 i series. 1. In-Stand, Automatic Activatio n Mode • The laser is activated upon object detection in the IR activation area.
17 I NDICATORS Audible During operation, the scanner provid es aud ible feedback that indicates the status of the scanner and latest scan. Eight settings are availa ble for the tone of the beep (normal, 6 alternate tones and no t one). T o change the beeper tone, refer to the MetroSelect Single-Line Configurati on Guide or MetroSet2’s help files.
18 I NDICATORS Visual Each MS9590 i series scanner has three LED indicators (blue, white, and yellow) located on the head of the scanner. When the scanner is in operat ion, the flashing, or stationary activity of the LEDs indicates the status of the scanner and the current scan.
19 I NDICATORS Failure Modes One Razzberry Tone – On Power Up This indicates the scanner has experi enced a flipper/motor failure. Return the scanner for repair to an authorized service ce nter. Three Beeps – On Pow er Up If the scanner beeps 3 times on power up, verify the host and scanner ar e set to the same communication pro tocol.
20 C ONFIGURATION M ODES The MS9590 i series scanners have three modes of configuration. • Bar Codes The scanner can be configur ed by scanning the bar codes located in the MetroSelect ® Single-Line C onfiguration Gui de ( MLPN 00-02544). This manual can be download ed FREE at www.
21 U PGRADING THE F LASH ROM F IRMWARE The MS9590 i and the MS9 591 i are part of Metrologic's line of scanners with flash upgradeable firm ware. The upgrade proces s requires a new firmware file supplied to the customer by a customer service representati ve and Metrologic's MetroSet 2 software .

24 IR A CTIVATION R ANGE The MS9590 i series has a built in object d etection sensor that instantly turns on the scanner's laser when an object is presented within the scanner's IR activation area. Refer to the MetroSelect Single-Li ne Config uration Guide for information on configurable IR activation range options.
