G Warning! The SRS self-check has detected a malfunction when the SRS indicator lamp 6 R does not come on at all R fails to go out after approximately 4 seconds after the engine was started R comes on.

X If necessary, tighten the lap portion to a snug fit by pulling shoulder portion up. All lap/shoulder belts except the driver’s seat belt have special seat belt retractors to secure child restraints properly.
If after these 6 seconds the driver’s or the front passenger’s seat belt (with the front passenger seat occupied) is not fastened with front doors closed, R the seat belt telltale 7 remains illuminated for as long as either the driver’s or front passenger’s seat belt is not fastened.
restraints on the front seats are designed to move forward in the direction of travel. They thus provide the head with increased support earlier on in the collision sequence. The NECK-PRO active front head restraints will move forward whether the seats are occupied or not.
Steering wheel G Observe Safety notes, see page 82. X Position steering wheel : properly. See ( Y page 82) for manual adjustment and ( Y page 82) for electrical adjustment. Make sure: R You can reach the steering wheel with your arms slightly bent at the elbows.
G Warning! When leaving the vehicle, always remove the SmartKey from the starter switch. Always take the SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle. Do not leave children unattended in the vehicle, even if they are secured in a child restraint system, or with access to an unlocked vehicle.
The use of infant or child restraints is required by law in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. territories and all Canadian provinces. Infants and small children should be seated in an appropriate infant or child restraint system.
R If you must install a rear-facing child restraint on the front passenger seat because circumstances require you to do so, make sure the 45 indicator lamp is illuminated, indicating that the front passenger front air bag is deactivated.
X Move the respective head restraint : to its uppermost position ( Y page 80). X Release the rear seat backrest ( Y page 189). X Fold the rear seat backrest slightly forward. X Guide top tether strap A between head restraint : and top of the seat backrest.
Information sign : indicates the position of anchor ; . X Install a LATCH-type (ISOFIX) child seat according to the manufacturer’s instructions. A rigid connection between the child seat and the body of the vehicle is established. X Make sure that the seat belt for the rear center seat can operate freely with a child seat installed.
The rear door windows can no longer be operated using the respective switch located in the rear doors. You can still operate the rear door windows using the switches located on the door control panel of the driver’s door. X Deactivating: Press override switch : again.

To cancel the alarm after it has been triggered, see “Canceling the alarm” ( Y page 64). i If the alarm stays on for more than 30 seconds, the Tele Aid system initiates a call to the Customer Assistance Center automatically.

Possibility 2 (One SmartKey in the vehicle, no SmartKey outside the vehicle): When exiting and trying to lock the vehicle, the message Key Detected in Vehicle appears in the multifunction display. The vehicle will not be locked. Factory setting X Global unlocking: Grasp an outside door handle.
X Have the SmartKey deactivated by an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center. X Report the loss of the SmartKey or the mechanical key to your car insurance company immediately. X Have the mechanical lock replaced if necessary. Any authorized Mercedes-Benz Center will be glad to supply you with a replacement.

A minimum height clearance of 6.90 ft (2.10 m) is required to open the tailgate. Opening the tailgate from the outside X Pull on handle : . R No SmartKey is inserted in the starter switch. R KEYLESS-GO: The vehicle’s on-board electronics must have status 0 ( Y page 76). Opening the tailgate from the outside You can unlock and open the tailgate simultaneously from the outside when the vehicle is stationary.
R Press or pull the remote tailgate opening/ closing switch on the driver’s door. R Press the tailgate closing switch. R Press the KEYLESS-GO locking/closing switch.
X Pull remote tailgate opening/closing switch : until the tailgate begins to open. An acoustic warning sounds when the tailgate begins to open. Closing G Observe Safety notes, see page 53. G Warning! Maintain sight of the area around the rear of the vehicle while operating the tailgate with the door-mounted remote tailgate switch.

the SmartKey is in the vehicle, the vehicle’s electrical systems can be switched on or the engine can be started using the KEYLESS-GO start/stop button. : KEYLESS-GO start/stop button ; Starter switch X Insert the KEYLESS-GO start/stop button into the starter switch (if not inserted already).
Seats Safety notes G Warning! In order to avoid possible loss of vehicle control the following must be done before the vehicle is put into motion: R seat adjustment R head restraint adjustment R steering wheel adjustment R rear view mirror adjustment R fastening of seat belts G Warning! Do not adjust the driver’s seat while driving.
Do not drive the vehicle without the seat head restraints. Head restraints are intended to help reduce injuries during an accident. Seat adjustment ! When moving the seats, make sure there are no items in the footwell or behind the seats. Otherwise, you could damage the seats and/or the items.
X Raising: Adjust the height of the head restraint by pulling it upward. X Lowering: Press release button : and push down on the head restraint. Head restraint fore and aft adjustment X Push or pull on the lower edge of the head restraint cushion to the desired position.
of the head at eye level. This will reduce the potential for injury to the head and neck in the event of an accident or similar situation. With a rear seat occupied, make sure to move the respective head restraint up from the lowest non-use position and have the occupant adjust the head restraint properly.
The seat heating switches from level 3 (high) to level 2 after approximately 5 minutes. The seat heating switches from level 2 to level 1 (low) after approximately 10 minutes. After approximately 20 minutes in level 1 , the seat heating switches off automatically.
X Adjusting steering wheel up or down: Move stalk in direction of arrows : . X Adjusting steering wheel in or out: Move stalk in direction of arrows ; . i The memory function ( Y page 86) lets you store the settings for the steering wheel together with the settings for the seat position and the exterior rear view mirrors.
Interior rear view mirror X Adjust the interior rear view mirror manually. Interior rear view mirror, antiglare position X Tilt the mirror to the antiglare position by moving lever : towards the windshield.
react, for example, when transporting cargo which covers the rear window. Light hitting the mirror(s) at certain angles (incident light) could blind you.
! Before you drive the vehicle through an automatic car wash, fold in the exterior rear view mirrors. Otherwise they may get damaged. Folding in and out automatically The function must be activated in the Convenience submenu ( Y page 124). The exterior rear view mirrors fold in automatically as soon as the vehicle is locked from the outside.
Storing positions into memory X Adjust the seats. X On the driver’s side, also adjust the steering wheel and exterior rear view mirrors to the desired positions. X Press memory button M once and within 3 seconds press memory position button 1 , 2 or 3 .
When the parking lamps or the rear fog lamp are switched on and you remove the SmartKey from the starter switch and open the driver’s door, an acoustic signal sounds. In addition the message Switch Off Lights appears in the multifunction display. Switch off the parking lamps or the rear fog lamp manually.
In the USA, the daytime running lamp mode is deactivated by default. X Activate the daytime running lamp mode using the control system, see “Switching daytime running lamp mode on or off (USA only)” ( Y page 122). X Turn the exterior lamp switch to position $ or c .
Locator lighting The locator lighting is described in the “Control system” section, see “Switching locator lighting on or off” ( Y page 122). Combination switch Turn signals X Press the combination switch in direction of arrow ; or ? . The corresponding turn signal indicator lamp ! or # in the instrument cluster flashes.
Headlamp cleaning system The headlamps will be cleaned with a high- pressure water jet automatically when the engine is running and you have R switched on the headlamps and R the windshield wipers have wiped the windshield with washer fluid for the first time The headlamps are cleaned every tenth time the windshield is washed with washer fluid.
Interior lighting in the front : v Rear interior lighting on/off ; ~ Automatic control on/off = p Right front reading lamp on/off ? c Front interior lighting on/off A p Left front reading lamp on/off B Front reading lamps C Front interior lighting Automatic control X Activating: Press button ~ .
: p Right rear reading lamp on/off ; p Left rear reading lamp on/off Wipers Notes ! Do not operate the wipers when the windshield/rear window is dry. Dust that accumulates on a windshield/rear window might scratch the glass and/or damage the wiper blades when wiping occurs on a dry windshield/rear window.
! Vehicles with rain sensor: If you have set intermittent wiping, dirt on the surface of the rain sensor or optical effects may cause the windshield wipers to wipe in an undesired fashion. This could then damage the windshield wiper blades or scratch the windshield.
Problems with wipers ! If anything blocks the wipers (leaves, snow, etc.), switch them off immediately. For safety reasons, do the following before attempting to remove any blockage: R Stop the vehicle in a safe location. R Remove the SmartKey from the starter switch.
and “Convenience closing feature” ( Y page 97). i After switching off the ignition or removing the SmartKey from the starter switch, you can operate the door windows until you open the driver’s or front passenger door. If no door was opened you can operate the door windows for up to 5 minutes.
Summer opening feature When the weather is warm, you can ventilate the vehicle before driving off by simultaneously R opening the door windows R opening the panorama roof with power tilt/ sliding panel and roller sunblinds The summer opening feature can only be activated via the remote control of the SmartKey.
X Vehicles with panorama roof with power tilt/sliding panel: Press and hold button & on the SmartKey once more. The roller sunblinds extend. X Release button & on the SmartKey to interrupt the extending procedure. With KEYLESS-GO The SmartKey with KEYLESS-GO must be located outside the vehicle within approximately 3 ft (1 m) of a door.
Automatic transmission Gearshift pattern for automatic transmission j Park position with gear selector lever lock k Reverse gear i Neutral position h Drive position For more information, see “Automatic transmission” ( Y page 103). X Make sure the automatic transmission is in park position P .
Carry out the following steps: X If you are starting the engine with the SmartKey: Turn the SmartKey in the starter switch to position 0 and repeat the starting procedure. X If you are starting the engine with KEYLESS- GO: Close any doors that may be open to allow for better detection of the SmartKey.
idle speed. If your foot is not firmly on the brake pedal, the vehicle could accelerate quickly forward or in reverse. You could lose control of the vehicle and hit someone or something. Only shift into gear when the engine is idling normally and when your right foot is firmly on the brake pedal.
Vehicle movement can cause serious personal injury or damage to the vehicle or the vehicle drivetrain. Therefore, always do the following before turning off the engine and leaving the vehicle: R Keep right foot on the brake pedal. R Engage the parking brake.
With SmartKey X Turn the SmartKey in the starter switch to position 0 . X Remove the SmartKey from the starter switch. The SmartKey can only be removed from the starter switch with the automatic transmission in park position P . With KEYLESS-GO X Press the KEYLESS-GO start/stop button.
i Neutral position h Drive position G Warning! It is dangerous to shift the automatic transmission out of park position P or neutral position N if the engine speed is higher than idle speed. If your foot is not firmly on the brake pedal, the vehicle could accelerate quickly forward or in reverse.
Effect B Park position Shift the automatic transmission into park position P only when the vehicle is stopped. The park position is not intended to serve as a brake when the vehicle is parked. Rather, the driver should always engage the parking brake in addition to shifting the automatic transmission into park position P to secure the vehicle.
Working on the vehicle G Warning! When working on the vehicle, engage the parking brake and shift the automatic transmission into park position P . Otherwise the vehicle could roll away which could result in an accident and/or serious personal injury.
The current program mode appears in the multifunction display. : Program mode indicator You should only change the program mode when the automatic transmission is in park position P .
range indicator disappears from the multifunction display. The automatic transmission will shift from the current gear range directly into drive position D . Shifting into optimal gear range X Press and hold the gear selector lever to the left in the D- direction.
If you must continue to drive, do so with added caution. Contact an authorized Mercedes- Benz Center as soon as possible. The language setting for the multifunction display can be changed with the audio system ( Y page 136) or with the COMAND system. Vehicles with COMAND system: Refer to separate operating instructions.
Outside temperature indicator The outside temperature indicator is displayed in the multifunction display ( Y page 112). G Warning! The outside temperature indicator is not designed to serve as an ice-warning device and is therefore unsuitable for that purpose.
Press button W X to set the volume = Press button ? to activate the Voice Control System 8 ? Press button briefly % to cancel the Voice Control System 8 to go back to confirm messages Press and hold b.
X To go to the next higher menu level: Press button % . X To select the standard display: Press button % repeatedly until the standard display featuring the odometer and speedometer appears. or X Press and hold button % until the standard display featuring the trip odometer and the main odometer appears.

Opening and closing the panorama roof with power tilt/sliding panel G Observe Safety notes, see page 53. G Warning! When opening or closing the tilt/sliding panel, make sure there is no danger of anyone being harmed by the opening/closing procedure. Any noticeable irregularities in engine operation should be repaired promptly. Engine compartment Hood G Warning! Do not pull the release lever while the vehicle is in motion. Otherwise the hood could be forced open by passing air flow. This could cause the hood to come loose and injure you and/or others. Opening G Warning! Do not open the hood when the engine is overheated.

Advanced Tire Pressure Monitoring System (Advanced TPMS), (USA only) Your vehicle is equipped with the Advanced Tire Pressure Monitoring System (Advanced TPMS). It measures the tire inflation pressure in the vehicle’s tires and issues warnings in case of pressure loss in one or more of the tires.
replacing one or more tires or wheels on your vehicle to ensure that the replacement or alternate tires and wheels allow the TPMS to continue to function properly. i If a condition causing the TPMS to malfunction develops, it may take up to 10 minutes for the system to signal a malfunction using the TPMS telltale flashing and illumination sequence.
