In addition to tire load rating, special load identification 1 may be molded into the tire sidewall following the letter designating the tire speed rating 6 ( Y page 262). R No specification given: absence of any text (like in above example) indicates a standard load (SL) tire.
Tires and wheels 266 Tire type code Tire type code 4 may, at the option of the manufacturer, be used as a descriptive code for identifying significant characteristics of the tire. Date of manufacture The date of manufacture 5 identifies the week and year of manufacture.
Tires and wheels 267 1 Maximum permissible tire inflation pressure i For illustration purposes only. Actual data on tires are specific to each vehicle and may vary from data shown in above illustration. This is the maximum permissible tire inflation pressure for the tire.
Tires and wheels 268 service practices and differences in road characteristics and climate. Traction G Warning! The traction grade assigned to this tire is based on straight-ahead braking traction tests, and does not include acceleration, cornering, hydroplaning, or peak traction characteristics.
Tires and wheels 269 i For illustration purposes only. Actual data on tires are specific to each vehicle and may vary from data shown in above illustration. This marking tells you about the type of cord and number of plies in the sidewall and under the tread.
Tires and wheels 270 tongue load). It is indicated on certification label located on the driver’s door B-pillar. Kilopascal (kPa) The metric unit for air pressure. There are 6.9 kPa to 1 psi; another metric unit for air pressure is bar. There are 100 kilopascals (kPa) to 1 bar.
Tires and wheels 271 Tire load rating Numerical code associated with the maximum load a tire can support. Tire ply composition and material used This indicates the number of plies or the number of layers of rubber-coated fabric in the tire tread and sidewall.
Winter driving 272 If applicable to your vehicle’s tire configuration, tires can be rotated according to the tire manufacturer’s recommended intervals in the tire manufacturer’s warranty pamphlet located in your vehicle literature portfolio.
Winter driving 273 Snow chains ! When driving with snow chains, always select the raised level of the vehicle level control. Other settings may result in damage to your vehicle.
Driving instructions 274 vehicle control. Your vehicle’s ABS will not prevent this type of loss of control. The most important rule for slippery or icy roads is to drive sensibly and to avoid abrupt acceleration, braking and steering maneuvers. Do not use the cruise control system under such conditions.
Driving instructions 275 Drinking and driving G Warning! Drinking and driving and/or taking drugs and driving are very dangerous combinations. Even a small amount of alcohol or drugs can affect your reflexes, perceptions and judgment. The possibility of a serious or even fatal accident are greatly increased when you drink or take drugs and drive.
Driving instructions 276 expected brake effect. Maintain a safe distance from vehicles in front. To help prevent brake disk corrosion after driving on wet or salt-covered roads, it is advisable to brake the vehicle with considerable force prior to parking.
Driving instructions 277 (SmartKey in starter switch position 0 or 1 or KEYLESS-GO start/stop button in position 0 or 1 ) when the parking brake is being tested on a brake test dynamometer or the vehicle is being towed with the front axle raised.
Driving instructions 278 reduces engine performance and causes premature brake and drivetrain wear which is not covered by the Mercedes-Benz Limited Warranty. Hydroplaning Depending on the depth of the water layer on the road, hydroplaning may occur, even at low speeds and with new tires.
Driving instructions 279 Only operate the COMAND 16 (Cockpit Management and Data System) if road, weather and traffic conditions permit. Otherwise, you may not be able to observe traffic conditions and could endanger yourself and others.

Vehicle care 283 You should check your vehicle from time to time for stone chipping or other damage. Any damage should be repaired as soon as possible to prevent corrosion. In doing so, do not neglect the underbody of the vehicle. A prerequisite for a thorough check is a washing of the underbody followed by a thorough inspection.
Vehicle care 284 Engine cleaning Prior to cleaning the engine compartment, make sure to protect electrical components and connectors from contact with water and cleaning agents. Corrosion protection, such as MB Anticorrosion Wax should be applied to the engine compartment after every engine cleaning.
Vehicle care 285 ! Do not use chrome cleaner on ornamental moldings. Although ornamental moldings may have chrome appearance, they could be made of anodized aluminum that will be damaged when cleaned with chrome cleaner. Instead, use a damp cloth to clean those ornamental moldings.
Vehicle care 286 Never open the hood when the wiper arms are folded forward. X Make sure the hood is fully closed. X Switch on the ignition. X Turn combination switch to wiper setting u ( Y page 118). X With wiper arms in vertical position, switch off the ignition.
Vehicle care 287 may also damage the wheel paint if the vehicle is not driven after cleaning. Therefore, the vehicle’s brake system should always be warmed-up before it is parked after cleaning. Drive your vehicle for several minutes to allow the brakes to dry.
Vehicle care 288 intermediate cover, contact-discoloration will be prevented. G Warning! Only use seat or head restraint covers which have been tested and approved by Mercedes-Benz for your vehicle model.
