Black plate (14,1) Front Seats (Manually Operated Seats) W ARNING Do not modify or repla ce the front seats: Modifying or replacing the front seats such as replacing the up holstery or loosening any bolts is d angerous. The front seats contain air bag components essential to the supplemental restraint system.
Black plate (15,1) Make sure the lever returns to its original position and the seat is locked in place by attempting to push it forw ard and backward.
Black plate (16,1) CAUTION When returning a rear-reclined seatback to its upright position, make sure you hold onto the seatback with your other hand while operating the lever . If the seatback is not supported, it will flip forward suddenly and could cause injury .
Black plate (17,1) NOTE The seat temperature is regulated automatically by a thermostat. Other than turning it on or off, it cannot be adjusted. Front Seats (Electrically Operated Seats) W ARNING Do not modify or repla ce the front seats: Modifying or replacing the front seats such as replacing the up holstery or loosening any bolts is d angerous.
Black plate (18,1) CAUTION l The seat-bott om power adjustment is operated by motors. A void extend ed operation because excess ive use can damage the motors. l T o prevent the battery from running down, avoid using the power adjustment when the engine is stopped.
Black plate (19,1) Change the seatback angle by pressing the front or rear side of the reclining switch. Release the switch at the desired position. q Height Adjustment Front of seat bottom T o adjust the front height of the seat bottom, rais e or low er the front of the slide lifter switch on the left side of the seat.
Black plate (20,1) q Lumbar Support Adjustment T o adjust the lumbar support, pull the lever forward. q Head Restraint W ARNING Always drive with the he ad restraints installed when seats are being used and make sure they are properly adjusted: Driving with the head restraints adjusted too low or remo ved is dangerous.

Rear Seat W ARNING Do not stack cargo higher than the seatbacks: Stacking luggage or other cargo higher than the seatbacks, and placing articles on the rear seat is dangerous.
Black plate (22,1) W ARNING Do not drive with the seatback unlocked: The seatback plays an importa nt role in your protection in a vehicle. Leaving the seatback unlocked is dangerous as it can allo w passengers to be ejected or thrown around and baggage to strike occupants in a sudden stop or collision, resul ting in severe injury.
Black plate (23,1) When us ing the remote handle levers: CAUTION Be careful of the following when using the remo te handle levers: l On a downward slope, the seatback could flip forward faster than on a flat area. l On an upward slope, the seatback may not fold down.
Black plate (24,1) 3. Push the rear seatback knob down. T o return the seatbac ks to the upright position 1. Lift the seatb acks upright. 2. Pull on the top of the seatbacks from inside the vehicle to make sure they are locked.
Black plate (25,1) Height ad justment T o use a head restraint, pull it up to the locked position . T o lower the head rest raint, press the stop- catch release, then push the head restraint down. Adjust the head restraint so that the top is even with the top of the passenger's ears, never the passenger's neck.
Black plate (26,1) Seat Belt Precautions Seat belts help to d ecrease the possibility of severe injury during accidents and sudden stops. Mazda recommends that the driver and all passengers always wear seat belts. All of the seat belt retractors are designed to keep the lap/shoul der belts out of the way when not in use.
Black plate (27,1) W ARNING Never use one seat belt on more than one person at a time: Using one seat belt for more than one person at a time is dangerous . A seat belt used in this way can not spread the imp act forces properly an d the tw o passengers could be crushed togeth er and seriously injur ed or even killed.
Black plate (28,1) q Emergency Locking Mode In the emergency locki ng mode, the belt remains comfortable on the occupant and the retractor will lock in position durin g a co llision.
Black plate (29,1) Seat Belt (Except Center - Rear Position) NOTE When using the center-rear seat belt, refer to “ Center-Rear Position Seat Belt ” (page 2-21). q Fastening the Seat Belt 1. Grasp the tongue. 2. Slowly pull out the lap/shoulder belt.
Black plate (30,1) q Unfastening the Seat Belt Depress the button on the buckle. If the belt does not fully retr act, pull it out and check for kinks or twist s. Then make sure it remains untwisted as it retr acts. Button NOTE If a belt does not fully retract, inspect it for kinks and twists.
Black plate (31,1) Front Seat Belt Pretensioner and Load Limiting Systems For optimum protection, the driver and front passen ger seat belts are equipped with prete nsioner and load limiting systems.
Black plate (32,1) W ARNING Properly dispose of the pretensioner system: Improper dispo sal of the prete nsioner system or a vehicle with non- deactivated pretensioners is dangerous.
Black plate (33,1) q Air Bag/Front Seat Belt Pretensioner System W arni ng Beep If a malfunction is detected in both the air bag/front seat belt pretensioner system and the warning light, a warning beep sound will be heard for about 1 minute. After that, the one-minute beep will be repeated every 30 minutes.
Black plate (34,1) W ARNING Fastening the Center-Rea r Seat Belt with Only One Buckle: Fastening the center -rear seat belt with only one buckle is dangerous. If only one pair of seat belt tongue an d buckle, either tongue (A) and anchor buckle (B) or tongue (C) and anchor buckle (D), is fastened, the seat belt cannot provi de full protection.
Black plate (35,1) q Unfastening the Lap Portion of the Seat Belt Insert a small object such as a key in the anchor buckle (B) slot. (B) (A) CAUTION Always unfasten the lap portion of the belt before folding the left-rear seatback. Leaving the lap portion of the belt fastened could cause damage to the seat belt, buckle and seatback.
Black plate (36,1) T o pull out the seat belt, slide tongue (A) with your finger while moving it downward, and slowly pull out the seat belt from the ceiling recess. Seat Belt Extender If your seat belt is not long enough , even when fully extended, a seat belt extender may be available to you at no charge from your Authori zed Mazda Dealer .
Black plate (37,1) W ARNING Do not use an extender that is too long: Using an extender that is too long is dangerous. The seat belt will not fit properly. In an accident, the seat belt will not provide adequate protection and you could be seriously injured.
Black plate (38,1) Driver's seat The belt minder is a supplement al warning to the seat belt warning function. If the driver's seat belt is not fastened when the ignition switch is turne d to the ON position , the warning light/b eep operates to give you further remind ers according to the chart below .
Black plate (39,1) Child Restraint Precautions Mazda strongly urges the use of chil d-restraint syst ems for children smal l enough to use them. Y ou are required by law to use a child-restraint system for children in the U.
Black plate (40,1) W ARNING Use the correct size child -restraint syst em: For effective protection in veh icle accidents and sudden stops , a c hild must be properly rest rained using a seat belt or child -restraint system depending on age and size. If not, the child could be seri ously injured or even killed in an accident.
Black plate (41,1) W ARNING A void putting a front-faci ng child-restraint system on the front passenger seat: A front-facing child-restrai nt system should only be put on the front seat when it is unavoidable. In a collision, the force of a deploy ing air bag could cause serious injury or death to the child.
Black plate (42,1) W ARNING Do not allow a child to lean over or against the side window of a vehicle with side and curtain air bags: It is dangerous to allow anyone to lean over or agains t the side .
Black plate (43,1) Installing Child-Restraint Systems Accident statistics reveal that a child is safer in the rear seat. The front passenger's seat is clearly the worst choice for any child und er 12, and with rear-facing child- restraint systems it is clearly unsafe due to air bags.
Black plate (44,1) 1. Make sure the seatback is securely latched by pushing it bac k until it is fully locked . 2. Secure the child-restraint system with the lap portion of the lap/shoulder belt. See the manufacturer's instructions on the child-res traint system for belt routing inst ructions.

Black plate (52,1) LA TCH Child-Restraint Systems Y our Mazda is equipp ed with LA TCH lower anchors for atta chment of specially designed LA TCH child-restraint systems in the rear seat. Both anc hors must be used, otherwise the seat will bounce around and put the child in danger .
Black plate (53,1) q Child-Restraint System Installation Procedure (Rear Outboard Seats) 1. Make sure the seatback is securely latched by pushing it bac k until it is fully locked . 2. Expand the open seams on the rear of the seat bottom slightly to verify the locations of the LA TCH lower anchors.
Black plate (54,1) W ARNING Use the tether and tether anchor only for a child-restraint system: Using the tether or tethe r anchor to secure anythi ng but a child-rest raint system is dangerous. This could weaken or damage the tethe r or tethe r anchor and result in injur y .
Black plate (55,1) 2. Expand the open seams on the rear of the seat bottom slightly to verify the locations of the LA TCH lower anchors. NOTE The markings above the LA TCH lower anchors indicate the locations of LA TCH lower anchors for the attachment of a child-restraint system.
Black plate (56,1) 6. Fold the trunk board into the position shown in the figure. 7. Latch the hook onto the anchor bracket, and tighten the teth er strap following the child-restrai nt system manufacturer's instructions. 8. Push the trunk board down to its original position .
Black plate (57,1) Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Precautions The supplement al restraint systems (SRS) include up to 6 air bags (verify “ SRS AIRBAG ” location indi cator marks).

Black plate (59,1) W ARNING Sit in the center of the seat and wear seat belts properly: Sitting too close to the side air bag modules or placing hands on them and sleeping up against the door or hanging out the window s is extremely dangerous.
Black plate (60,1) W ARNING Do not place luggage or other objects under the front seats: Placing luggage or other object s under the front seats is dan gerous. The side and curtain air bag wiring could be damaged, and in the event of a side collision , the side and curtai n air bags may not deploy, which could resul t in dea th or serious injury.

Black plate (63,1) How the SRS Air Bags W ork Y our Mazda is equipp ed with the follow ing types of SRS air bags. SRS air bags are designed to work together with the seat belts to help to reduce injuries during an accident. The SRS air bags are designed to provide furt her protectio n for passen gers in a ddition to the seat belt functions.
Black plate (64,1) q Front Passenger Air Bag The front passenger air bag is mounted in the front passenger dashboard. The infl ation mechanism for the front passen ger air bag is the same as the drive r's air bag, as mentioned above.

However, in some accidents, the equipment may not deploy depending on the type of coll ision and its severity .

Black plate (72,1) W ARNING Do not decrease the total seated weight on the front passenger seat: When an adult or large child sits on the front pa ssenger seat, decreasing the total seated wei ght on the front passenger seat from the total seated weigh t of approximately 42 kg (93 lb) required for air bag deployment is dangerous.
Black plate (73,1) W ARNING Do not increase the total seated weight on the front passenger seat: When an infant or small child sits on the front passenger seat, increasing the total seated wei ght on the front passenger seat from the total seated weigh t of approximately 30 kg (66 lb) is dangerous.
Black plate (74,1) CAUTION l T o assure proper deployment of the front air bag and to prevent damage to the sensors in the front seat bottoms : l Do not place sharp object s on the front seat bottoms or leave heavy luggage on them. l Do not spill any liquids on the front seats or under the front seats.

Black plate (81,1) q Advanced Key Maintenance CAUTION l Make sure the battery is installed with the correct pole facing upward. Battery leakage could occur if it is not install ed correctly . l When replacing the battery , be careful not to bend the electrica l terminals or get oil on them.
Black plate (82,1) 3. Insert a flath ead screwdriver into the crack and press the batt ery out. 4. Insert the new battery (CR2025 or equivalent) with the positive pole ( ) facing the ( ) mark on the cap. 5. Rotate and close the cap. Cap 6. Reinser t the auxiliary key .
Black plate (83,1) Operation Using Advanced Keyless Functions q Operational Range The system operates only when the driver is in the vehicle or within operational range while the advanced key is being carried.
Black plate (84,1) NOTE l The luggage compartment is out of the operational range, however, starting the engine may be possi ble. l The engine may not start if the advanced key is placed in the follow.
Black plate (85,1) T o unlock Driver's door request switch T o unlock the driver's door, press the request swi tch. A beep sound will be heard twice and the hazard warning lights will flash twice. T o unlock all do ors and the liftgat e, press the reques t switch again within 3 seconds and two more beep sounds will be heard.
Black plate (86,1) NOTE l The sett ing can be cha nged so that the doors and the liftgat e are locked automatically without pressing the request switch. (Auto-lock function) A beep sound is heard when all doors and the liftgate are close d while the advanced key is being carried.
Black plate (87,1) NOTE l If turning the ignition switch is difficult, jiggle the steering wheel from side to side. l The ignition switch cannot be turned from the ACC position to the LOCK position when the shift lever is not in P. ACC (Accessor y) The steer ing wheel unlocks and some electrical accessories will op erate.
Black plate (88,1) 1. Make sure the advanc ed key is being carried. 2. Occupants should fasten their seat belts. 3. Make sure the parking brake is on. 4. Depre ss the brake pedal. 5. Put the vehicle in park (P). If you must restart the engine while the vehicle is moving, shif t into neutral (N).
Black plate (89,1) CAUTION Don't try the starter for more than 10 seconds at a time. If the engine stalls or fails to start, wait 10 seconds before trying again. Otherwise, you may damage the starter and drain the battery . 10. After starting the engine, let it idle for about 10 seconds.
Black plate (90,1) Operation Using Advanced Key Functions q Keyless Entry System This system remotely locks and unlocks the doors and the liftgat e, and opens the power wi ndows and the moonr oof. It can also help you signal for attentio n. Press the buttons slowly and carefully .
Black plate (91,1) NOTE The unlock button can be used to open the power windows and the moonroof, but the lock button cannot be used to close the power windows and the moonroof.
Black plate (92,1) Panic but ton If you witness from a distance someone attempting to break into or damage your vehicle, p ressing the panic butt on will activate the vehicle' s alarm. NOTE The panic button will wor k whether any door or the lif tgate is open or closed.
Black plate (93,1) Advanced Key Suspend Function If an advanced key is left in the vehicle, the functions of the advan ced key left in the vehicle are temporarily suspended to prevent theft of the vehicl e. The foll owing are inoperable: l Starting the engine using the start knob.
Black plate (94,1) q Advanced Key Removed from V ehicle W arning Beep Under the following conditions, a beep will be heard 6 tim es and the KEY warning ligh t (red) will flas h continuously when the start knob has not been returne d to the LOCK position to notify the driver that the advanced key has been removed.
Black plate (95,1) q Engine Start Not Permitted W arning Under the following conditions, the KEY warning ligh t (red) flashes to inform the driver that the start knob will not rotate to the ACC position even if it is pushed in from the LOCK position. l The adva nced key battery is dead.
Black plate (96,1) Setting Change (Function Customization) The foll owing function settings are possible. These settings can only be changed by an Authorized Mazda Dealer.
Black plate (97,1) User Mis-Operation W arning Indicators Under the following conditions, warning beeps are heard and a warning/indi cator light in the instrum ent cluster illuminates to noti fy the driver of improper operation of the advanced key to prevent theft of the vehicle (page 3-17).
Black plate (98,1) Keys (with Retractable T ype Key) W ARNING Do not leave the keys in your vehicle with children and keep them in a place where you r children will not find or play with them: Leaving child ren in a vehicle with the key is dangerous. This could result in someone being badly injured or even killed.
Black plate (99,1) Key extend/retract method (Retractable type key) T o extend the key , press the relea se button. T o retract the key , rotate it into the holder while press ing the release butt on. Keyless Entry System This system remotely locks and unlocks the doors and the liftgat e, and opens the power wi ndows and the moonr oof.
Black plate (100,1) NOTE l The keyless entry system is desig ned to operate up to about 2.5 m (8 ft) from the center of the vehicle, but this may vary due to local conditions.
Black plate (101,1) NOTE The unlock button can be used to open the power windows and the moonroof, but the lock button cannot be used to close the power windows and the moonroof.

Black plate (104,1) Door Locks W ARNING Always take all children and pets with you or leave a responsibl e person with them: Leaving a child or a pet unattended in a parked vehicle is dangerous . In hot weather , temperatures inside a vehicle can become high enough to cause brain damage or even d eath.
Black plate (105,1) q Locking, Unlocking with Door - Lock Knob T o lock any door from the inside, push the door-lock knob. T o unlock, pull it out. This does not operate the other door locks. Unlock Lock T o lock any door with the door-lock knob from the outside, push the door-lock knob to the lock position and close the door.
Black plate (106,1) Locking, unlocking with key All doors and the lif tgate lock automatically when the driver's door is locked with the key . All doors and the liftgate unlock when the driver's door is unlocked and the key is held in the unlock position for one second or longer .
Black plate (107,1) q Rear Door Child Safety Locks These locks are intended to help prevent children from accide ntally opening the rear doors. Use them both whenever a child rides in the vehicl e. If you slide the child safety lock to the lock position before closing that door, the door cannot be opened from the inside.
Black plate (108,1) q Locking, Unlocking with T ransmitter (with Advanced Key) The liftgate can be locked /unlocked by operating the keyless entry system transmitter, refer to Keyless Entry System (page 3-14).
Black plate (109,1) q Luggage Compartment W ARNING Do not place luggage or other cargo on top of the luggage compartment cover: Placing luggage or other cargo on top of the luggage compartment cover is dangerous. Durin g sudden braking or a collisio n, the cargo could become a projectile that could hit and injure someone.
