5 Important information Make connections before using this unit. To create a home theater that can play back higher quality video and audio by fully utilizing the capabilities of this unit and your video devices, connect this unit to each of your video devices with HDMI cables.
6 Important information n Deep Color ( v page43 , 61 ) When a device supporting Deep Color is connected, use a cable compatible with “High Speed HDMI cable” or “High Speed HDMI cable with Ethernet”.
7 Connecting a TV This connection is to connect the unit and a television directly. Connect a TV to the HDMI OUT MONITOR(VIDEO) connector. When a TV is connected to the HDMI OUT AMP(AUDIO) connector, it may not function properly. IN HDMI HDMI cable TV NOTE • The unit can play both NTSC and PAL discs.
8 AV Pure Direct connection This shows how to make a connection in order to use the AV Pure Direct function. IN HDMI IN HDMI The MONITOR(VIDEO) connector outputs video signals. The AMP(AUDIO) connector outputs audio and black video signals. To use the AV Pure Direct function, you must change the Pure Direct setting.
9 Connecting a USB memory device to the USB port • You can enjoy music, video and photo stored on a USB memory device. • For operating instructions see “Playing files (MEDIA PLAYER)” ( v page19 ). To connect a USB memory device to this unit.
10 Connecting to a home network (LAN) You can connect this unit to your home network (LAN) to perform various types of playbacks and operations as follows.

19 Playing files (MEDIA PLAYER) Files on a USB memory device, disc or a server connected to the unit are played using the Media Player of the unit. • Before operation, start the server software of the computer (Windows Media Player, etc.), and make settings for the server contents so that files can be played via the network.

25 Memorizing locations to replay (Marker function) You can attach a marker to a location you want to view or hear again, so that playback begins at that location. 1 Press SEARCH to select a “Marker search”. The Marker search mode setting bar is displayed at the top of the screen.
26 Playing in random order (Random playback) Press RANDOM during playback. The “RAND” lights on the display and “Random Mode” is displayed on the screen. n Resuming normal playback Press RANDOM during random playback. NOTE Random playback may not be available with some media.

28 Media icons This unit can play back various kinds of media including video, audio, and photos. In this owner’s manual, corresponding media icons are indicated next to titles for each operation description. The following table shows what content can be played back for each media.
29 Video resolution This section is for making the settings for video output resolution. Set them depending on the connected television. Press RESOLUTION . • The resolution is changed as shown below each time RESOLUTION is pressed. • You cannot set resolution individually for each HDMI output.

34 Playing back BD-Live™ contents Before these steps, connect this unit to the Internet. 1 Press ON/STANDBY X to turn on power to the unit. 2 Press OPEN/CLOSE 5 and insert BD that is compatible with BD-Live™. 3 From the disc menu, select the BD-Live™ playback icon and press ENTER .
35 HDMI control functions The HDMI connection not only transmits video and audio but also convey information between the connected devices. The HDMI control function conveys control signals between the devices to enable them to link with each other. This is a useful function.

58 Copyright protection system (HDCP) In order to play back digital video and audio such as BD-Video or DVD-Video via HDMI connection, both the player and TV or the AV receiver need to support the copyright protection system known as HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection System).
59 About digital signal audio output The unit converts the format of digital audio signals recorded on media and output them. • Audio signal input may not be supported depending on the HDMI compatible monitor (projector, etc.) being used. When the unit is connected to this kind of device, audio signals are not output from the HDMI terminal.
