162 http://pro.magix.com Anti-flickering filter i ntensity: The anti-flick ering filter affects only still images. It is especially intended for zooms in images wi th many edges and transitions with high contrast (e.g. fences, bars, brick walls). High -frequency images such as these begin to flicker when they are reduced in size.
Stereo3D 163 • Burn the project to DVD • Place the d isc into the player an d play the f ilm. Compar e the TV picture to the picture dis played on your video scr een by MAGIX Video Pro X6. • Determine the proportional value of the bord ers cropped by the television with the four meas urement scale s along the edges of the test pictur e.
164 http://pro.magix.com 3D basics Human eyes perceive objects from 2 diffe rent angles and our brain "calculates" images from this information. This way we can tell the distance and position of an object. For this reason, 3D material should be shot according to this principle.
Stereo3D 165 Various techniques exist for 3D recordin g. Each method has its advantages and disadvantages: • 3D cameras with two lenses : The a dvantages ar e obvious ; these camera s produc e 3D material w ithout excess ive work in volved. T he disadvanta ge is that th e stereo base wid th (lens distance ) cannot be change d.
166 http://pro.magix.com Prepare 3D editing 3D videos are filmed and saved by different cameras, which means: depending on the camera model or recording method, the videos or images vary. In one file Many cameras, especially for photo recordin gs, create one single file containing the left and the right image next to one another.
Stereo3D 167 3D mode Equipment Requirements View partially interlaced Polariz ing filter • Polarizing filter glasses • Special monitor, typically referr ed to as a 3D monitor or simi lar Note: You can choose between right or left image first, depending on wh ich type of display produces better results on your mo nitor.
168 http://pro.magix.com Align videos and images for 3D Anaglyph display is recommended for this and can be set in the video monitor (view page 166). Precise geometric alignment of i m ages is only possible in this mode.
Stereo3D 169 • If the images are offset ver tically, they ne ed to be balanced us ing the lower of the two slide cont rollers under "Spat ial alignmen t". • If the images hav e rotationa l differences, yo u have to adj ust these with th e knob.

Stereo3D 171 • Not all playba ck devices are capa ble of do uble resolution. If this is th e case for your device, 50 % pinched images wi ll be displaye d.
172 http://pro.magix.com Measuring instruments In MAGIX Video Pro X6 there are four measuring instruments that can be used in various situations. The various application ca ses are listed in the descriptions of each measuring instrument.
Measuring instruments 173 - RGB parade - Histogram - All meters side by side 3. Place the play back marker o n the desire d position i n the proj ect window.
174 http://pro.magix.com • If a color is ove rsaturated, the colo r saturation limi t can be clearly recognized . When large ar eas of the im age are oversa turated, the c orrespondin g color saturation limit is whit e.
Measuring instruments 175 Waveform monitor The Waveform monitor displays the brightness of the video . The connection to the position on the image remains intact. • X Axis (horizo ntal) The image posit ion on the horizonta l axis of the video moni tor.
176 http://pro.magix.com RGB parade The measuring instrument „RGB Parade“ basically functions like the wav eform monitor (view page 175) but shows the brightness areas of the colors red, green and b lue indivi dually.
Measuring instruments 177 Tint detection If a vertical movement compared to the ot her colors is noticed for one of the three colors, a tint is present. When you regulate the saturation using the video effects, the result is immediately visible in the "RGB Parade" measuring instrument.
178 http://pro.magix.com Settings Norm • Automatic: MAGIX Video P ro X6 makes the appropriate setti ngs based on the Movie settings (vie w page 246). • Standard Definition Video BT.601: This setting is used for videos with standard resolution (PAL).
Measuring instruments 179 Change measuring i nstrument settings Note: Only activate the "Norm" setting for test purposes or if the automatic detection fails. 1. Use a simple mouse click t o open the sour ce monitor menu. 2. Select the option „Meter setting s .
180 http://pro.magix.com Audio editing For comprehensive audio track editing that goes beyond v olume level adjustment, audio must be placed on a separate track. 1. To place audio on a separate track, right-click on the des ired object. The context menu will o pen.
Audio editing 181 Audio effects Automatic track damping This command from the context menu auto matically dampens the volume of other audio objects. The volume of the selected object on the track remains unchanged. Only original sound: Here you can also specify wheth er you want to dampen the original sound of the video or all audio tracks.
182 http://pro.magix.com Audio effects plug-ins MAGIX Video Pro X6 supports VST as we ll as DirectX audio plug-ins. These are usually effects modules such as reverb, equalizer, dynamics compression, etc. Installation Before using audio effect plug-ins, they first have to be ins talled – this process may be different depending on the plug-i n.
Audio editing 183 Apply to all scenes : Applies the selected cleaning setti ngs of all effects to every scene of the movie. Declipper Should the input level of an audi o recording be too high, overmodu lation may result at the louder parts (the signal peaks).
184 http://pro.magix.com "Play" button. If it is similar to the background noise in your sound track, go ahead and use it (see "Step 2: Removing background noise"). Extract a new noise sample from an audio t rack: You can also pick out a short passage (from the existing sound track) in which you can hear the background noise.
Audio editing 185 effects, from the simple rising of the bass to total sound transformation. If you raise the low frequencies too much throughout the whole level, it might cause distortions. Fader: The volume of each of the 10 frequency bands can be set separately with the 10 volume controls.
186 http://pro.magix.com Power switch : Every effect device in the rack may be switched on or off separately. This button allows you to directly compare the neutral, unedit ed sound of the audio object with the effect setting you have chosen. Reset : Every effect has a reset button that restores the effect device’s initial default.
Audio editing 187 Time: With this knob you can adjust the ech o time and determine how much of it will be absorbed and, simultaneously, the rever b's decay. Color : You may influence th e sound characteristics of the effect within certain limits.
188 http://pro.magix.com Tempo: This control changes the speed ind ependently from the pitch ("timestretching"). The object acts as if it were compressed or stretched on the track. Tones/BPM: These fields serve for numerical alteration of pitch and spee d.
Audio editing 189 • Universal HQ : Universal met hod timestre tching and p itchshifti ng in very high audio qu ality. Suitable for all types of audio material .
190 http://pro.magix.com Compressor The compressor is an automated, dynami c volume adjustment controller : louder passages become quieter and quiet passages become louder. A compressor is useful to make spoken passages more audible against background noise or music in case a simple increase of the overall volume is insufficient.
Audio editing 191 bandwidth is defined by the Q value. The hi gher the Q value, the narrower and steeper the filter curve. You can influence the basic sound of the mix by increasing and decreasing the broadband so as to give it more "depth" (lower center 200-600 Hz) or more "air" (Highs 10Khz).
192 http://pro.magix.com You can access additional setti ngs for each frequency band by clicking on the bullets. You can use the knobs to set the values for each band. There is also a numeric field for each parameter where values can be entered. Gain: This controller allows you to raise or lo wer the filter.
Audio editing 193 The advantage of a multi-band compressor ve rsus a "normal" compressor is that the "pumping" tendency and other unwanted side effects are dramatically reduced while editing the dynamics. For instance, it can pr event a bass top peak from "reducing" the entire signal.
194 http://pro.magix.com Maximize strengthens the spatial compone nt of the recording, which also increases the stereo transparency without in fluencing the mono compatibilit y. Stereo meter (correlation gauge): This provides a graphic al display of the phase relation of the audio signal.
Audio editing 195 Audio CDs Loading an audio CD works ju st like loading of any other files into the arrangement. • Place an aud io CD int o the driv e. • Find the drive in your Med ia Pool The indiv idual CD titles appear i n the file list. • Double click on the song to preview.
196 http://pro.magix.com Save selected tracks: This button opens dialog to save selected tracks. You can either place all files into a single WAV file or cr eate a separate WAV file for each track. A new object will be created in the arra ngement for each track in either case.
Audio editing 197 CD/DVD-ROM configuration Drive Name: Lets you edit the name of the drive in the list. This is useful if you create more than one entry accessing the same physical drive. Host Adapter Number: Lets you specify the number of your SCSI adapter - normally 0.
198 http://pro.magix.com Mixer The Mixer can be opened by pressing the "M" key or via the butt on bar in the main window (also: "View" > "Mixer"). Mixer channels Each track of the project window is repr esented with a corresponding mixer channel in the mixer.
Audio editing 199 FX : Opens (view page 189) the audio effect rack . Auto : activates the volume and panautomation (view pa ge 200). Plug-ins : You can access the audio plug-ins (view page 182) installed on the PC using the triangle-shaped button. Volume : You can adjust the track volume us ing the large slider.

MPEG-4 encoder settings (Intel) 353 Profile: Profiles define the e ncoder properties that are supported. Note: You should only change th is setting when there are problems playing back the generated video. • Auto: The encod er automa tically sel ects th e approp riate se tting.
354 http://pro.magix.com MPEG-4 encoder settings (main concept) MPEG-4 is actually a collection of highly efficient codecs for video and audio based on the MPEG standard.
MPEG-4 encoder settings (main concept) 355 The AVC preset and video format can be adju sted here. For instance, if DVD qua lity is desired you should select "DVD". The video fo rmat should be selected specific to the country so that the material can be played on the devices most commonly availa ble in these countries.
356 http://pro.magix.com Note: Ask your graphics card manufacturer whether your graphics card supports hardware acceleration. Make sure that all the necessary drivers are installed. If your system does support hardware accelera tion, you can activate it in the "Encoder Settings" dialog under "Advanced.
MPEG-4 encoder settings (main concept) 357 H.264 defines different levels . The level dete rmines which bit rate and resolution are possible for the video. With the "Auto level" option, the encod er determines the level automatically on the basis of the resolution of "AVC preset" vide o formats, the set bit rate and the profile.
358 http://pro.magix.com • Variable bit rate : The bit rate var ies. For faster m ovements in t he video, the bit rate increases, and for still images or slow pans, a l ower bit rate is s ufficient for creating the v ideo in const ant qualit y.
MPEG-4 encoder settings (main concept) 359 flatscreens, widescr een notebooks), 3:2 for 3 5mm films and photo s. In cinemas you mostly find 1.85:1 . • Pixel Aspect Ratio (PAR, pixel aspect ratio : Indicates the aspe ct ratio of i ndividual pixels.

MPEG-4 encoder settings (main concept) 361 Slice count A frame can be divided into multiple s lices for encoding. Specify th e maximum number of slices are permitted. If set to "0", then the number will be determined automatically. Rate control The bit rate indicates how much data per second is saved in the video (playback speed).
362 http://pro.magix.com Pixel aspect ratio Specifies the page ratio of the indiv idual image points (pix els). Meaning : Different television norms and the stan dard pixel ratio. Select a setting and the results are displayed as "X" and "Y".
MPEG-4 encoder settings (main concept) 363 Advanced audio settings: • The bit rate can be set betw een 6 and 512 kbit/s. 160 k bits/s is active by default. The higher t he value is, th e larger the r esulting f ile and higher the audi o quality. After a certain lim it, additio nal improv ements to audio quality will not be perceived.
364 http://pro.magix.com Multiplexer The Multiplexer combines audi o and video streams so they can be played back together on playback devices. Output format MPEG-4 file : This is an MPEG standard (ISO/IEC-14496) with the original goal of supporting devices with less computing performance.
Appendix: MPEG Encoder Settings 365 Appendix: MPEG Encoder Settings General settings MPEG type: Here you can se t the output type of the created MPEG file. Dialog normalization: Here you can set the level of spoken dialogs in dB. This value will be used to adjust the total volume of DVD movi es and different programs that can be received by the DVB.
370 http://pro.magix.com Background: Action-filled movies have larger volume differences between spoken dialogs and loud scenes (for example during explosions), and because of this, their dialogs are softer than in quieter films, which can be modulated higher.
MPEG glossary 371 Bit rate MPEG is a format used for storage and tran sferring. Wi th older fo rmats (e.g. AVI) you could predict that 20 seconds of movie would result in 20 MB of data. The file size is this a direct measurement of quality. This is different for MPEG: The amount of data available can be used differently for different display modes.
372 http://pro.magix.com 4:1:0 This is the color coding used for DVDs and most other consumer video applications. For each 4 pixels grouped together on two rows, one unit of color information is saved. This corresponds to a output data compression of 1/2.
MPEG glossary 373 In a closed GOP , B frames of the last subgroup may contain only backward predictions or references to the preceding P frame, but no references to the following I frame, since it belongs to the next GOP.
374 http://pro.magix.com Typical interlacing errors You can use so-called "de-interlacing" to av oid th ese artifacts. A picture in between the two fields is created (interpolated). So if you want to create stationary pictures from movies, then you should definitely use a de-interlac e filter.
