16 Chapte r 3 – Conf igurat ion Uti lit y Setup Introduction The Configuration Utility enables the users to identify HomePlug devices on the powerline network, measures data rate performance, ensures privacy and performs diagnostics by setting user defined secure powerline networks.
17 T he Mai n screen provides a list of all powerline dev ices log ically connected to the computer w hen the ut ility is r unning.The top panel shows all local HomePlug devices connected to the computer’s NIC (Network Interface Card). In most cases, only one device will be seen.
18 following information is display ed for all devices that appear in the lower panel. Device Name column show s the def ault device name, which may be user re - def ine d. A u ser can change the name by either using the rename button or by clicking on the name and editing in - place.
19 Ad d button is use d to add a remote dev ice to the exi s ting network by ente r ing the dev ice password of th e device. A dialo g box will appear as show n below in Figure 3-4 . The dialog box al lows the user to enter both a device name and t he password.
20 Th e Scan button is used t o perform an i mm ediate search o f the HomePlug dev ices connect ed to t he Powerline network. By de f ault, the utility automatically scans every few seconds and updates the display screen. A typical screen after naming and supplying passwords might appear as in Figure 3-5.
21 3.2 P r i v a c y Screen The Privacy screen provides the user with an option to maintain security for their logical networ k and also to select the devices t hat has t o be i nc luded in the network.
22 3.3 Diagnost ics Screen Th e Di agnostics screen shows Sy st em information and a histor y of al l r emote devices seen over a period of time. The appearance is show n in Fig ure 3-7 .

27 4.4 Trouble shooting If your HomePlug A V 500 Mbps nan o Pa ss Thru have di fficulty communicati ng with eac h other , chec k the fo l low ing: • Try power cycling the un it by unpl ugging it from the wal l for 10 s econds and plug ging it i n again.
