16 Chapter 3 – Configur atio n Utili ty Setup Introduction The Configuration Utility enables the users to identify HomePlug devices on the pow erline network, measures data rate performance, ensures privacy and performs diagnostics by setting user defined secure powerline networks.
17 The M ai n screen pr ovides a list of all pow erline devices logically connected to the computer when the utility is running.T he top panel shows all local HomePlug devices connected to the computer’s NIC (Network I nterface Card). In most cases, only one de vice will be seen.
18 above the Remote devices panel showi ng whether t he Autoscan func tionality is turned ON or OFF. The followi ng inf ormation is displayed for all dev ices that appear in the lower panel. Device Name col umn sh ows the default dev ice name, which may be user re - def ined.
19 Ad d button is used to add a r emote devi ce to the existing network by entering the dev ice password of the device. A dialog box will appear as shown below in Figure 3-4 . The d ialog box allows the user to enter both a device name and the password.
20 The Scan button is u sed to perform an immediate sear ch of the HomePlug devices connected t o the Powerline network. By default, the utility automatically scans every f ew seconds and updates the display screen. A typical screen after naming and supplying passwords might appear as in Figure 3-5.
21 3.2 P r i v a c y Scr een The Privacy screen provi des the user w ith an opt ion to maintain security for their logical netw ork and also to select the devices that has to be included in the network.
22 3.3 Diagnost ics Screen The Diagnostics screen shows System information and a history of all remote devices seen over a period of time. The appearance is show n in Fig ure 3-7 .

25 The procedure is as fo l lows : 1. Press and hold the Security button on Bridge A for 10 seconds. Release it when the Pow er light flashes. T he passw ord t o Bridge A has just been e r ased. It must now be link ed to your network to adopt the new network s e cur ity k ey.

28 If your HomePlug A V Ethernet Brid ges have dif f iculty communicating with each other , chec k the following : • T ry power cycling the unit by unpl ugging it from the w all f or 10 seconds and pl ugging it in again. • Use a pin and hold t he Reset button dow n for 2 s econds on each unit you ar e trying to connect.
