ThinkV antage Rescue and Recovery The ThinkV antage Rescue and Recovery ® progr am is a one button recovery and r estor e solution that includes a set of self-r ecovery tools to help you diagnose comput er problems, get help, and r ecover from system cr ashes, even if you cannot start the Windows oper ating system.
Antivirus software Y our computer comes with antivirus softwar e that you can use to detect and eliminate viruses. Lenovo provides a full version of antivirus softwar e on your computer with a fr ee 30-day subscription. After 30 days, you must renew the license to continue receiving the antivirus software updates.

Chapter 2. Installing or r eplacing har dware This chapter provides instructions on how to install or r eplace har dware for your computer . This chapt er contains the following t opics: • “Instal.

4. T o reinstall the lift stand, insert the two tabs 1 on the lift stand into the corresponding holes in the computer VESA fr ame, and then slide the lift stand t oward the bottom of the comput er . Align the three screw holes in the lift stand with those in the computer VESA fr ame and then install the three scr ews to secure the lift stand.
3. Remove the comput er cover . See “Removing the computer cover” on page 13. 4. Locat e the rear I/O assembly cover . See “Component locations” on page 10.
6. Remove the screw that secur es the VESA fr ame cover , slide the VESA frame cover t o the bott om of the computer , and then lift it up to remove it fr om the VESA fr ame.
8. Remove the four scr ews 1 that secure the VESA frame t o the computer main brack et and then lift the VESA fr ame off the comput er main bracket. Figure 11.

Flex the sides of the har d disk drive br acket pr operly to r emove the hard disk drive out of the br acket.

c. T ouch only the sides of the micr oprocessor . Do not t ouch the gold contacts on the bott om. d. Do not drop anything ont o the micr oprocessor socket while it is e xposed. The socket pins must be kept as clean as possible. Figure 24. Removing the microprocessor 7.
8. Hold the new micropr ocessor and align the notches 2 on it with the alignment keys in the micropr ocessor socket, or align the small triangle 1 on one corner of the new micr oprocessor with the corresponding beveled corner of the micr oprocessor socket.

Disconnect the two cables fr om the WI-FI car d. 6. Car efully remove the two screws that secur e the WI-FI car d to the system boar d.
T o r eplace the Bluetooth module, do the following: 1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the computer . Then, disconnect all power cor ds from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connect ed to the comput er .
T o r eplace the multi-touch board, do the following: 1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the computer . Then, disconnect all power cor ds from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connect ed to the comput er .
This section provides instructions on how to r eplace the ambient light sensor . Note: The ambient light sensor is available only in some models. T o r eplace the ambient light sensor , do the following: 1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the computer .

8. Route the new int ernal speaker cables and then position the new internal speakers on the fr ont bez el so that the two scr ew holes in each internal speak er align with those in the front bez el. 9. Reinstall the two scr ews to secure each of the int ernal speakers to the front bezel.
6. Remove the two scr ews 1 that secur e the integr ated camer a with micr ophone to the fr ont bezel, and then remove the int egrated camera with micr ophone from the comput er .

8. Install the four screws to secur e the r ear I/O assembly t o the computer main br acket. 9. Reinstall the r ear I/O assembly cover . 7. T o install the new right I/O assembly into the comput er , position the new right I/O assembly into place and then align the scr ew holes with the corr esponding holes in the comput er main br acket. 8. Install the thr ee scr ews to secur e the right I/O assembly to the comput er main br acket.
7. Remove the four screws 1 that secure the power supply and then r emove the two screws 2 that secure the power cor d connector br acket. Note the routing of the power cord connector cable 3 . Lift the power supply up to remove it fr om the comput er main br acket.

3. Correctly install the batt eries for the new wir eless keyboard by referring to the following illustr ations: 4. Remove the USB dongle from the wir eless mouse compartment and connect it to an available USB connectors on the computer . See “Replacing the wir eless mouse” on page 49 .

Notes: T o save your batt ery ener gy, do the following when you ar e not using the wir eless k eyboard and mouse: 1. Switch off the power button on the bottom of the wireless mouse. 2. Disconnect the USB dongle fr om your comput er and st ore it in the wir eless mouse compartment.
3. Lower and position the comput er cover into place and then slide the computer cover t oward the bott om of the computer until the cover is secured into place. Figure 40. Installing the computer cover 4. Lock the comput er cover if you have an int egrat ed cable lock.
An int egrated cable lock, sometimes referr ed to as the Kensington lock, can be used to secure your computer to a desk, a table, or other non-permanent xture. The integr ated cable lock attaches to the integr ated cable lock slot in the r ear of your comput er and is oper ated with a key .
5. Close the computer cover and connect the power cor d. See “Completing the parts r eplacement” on page 50. 6. T urn on the computer and leave it on for appro ximately 10 seconds. Then, turn off the comput er by holding the power switch for appro ximately ve seconds.

Chapter 3. Recovery information This chapter pr ovides information about the r ecovery solutions provided by Lenovo. This chapt er contains the following t opics: • “Creating and using recovery me.
On the Windows 7 oper ating system and the Windows Vista operating system, you can use recovery media to rest ore the comput er to the factory default settings only . Y ou can use recovery media to put the comput er in an operational stat e aft er all other methods of r ecovery have failed.
• T o perform a backup oper ation using the Rescue and Recovery progr am on the Windows Vista oper ating system, do the following: 1. F r om the Windows deskt op, click Start ➙ All P rograms ➙ ThinkV antage ➙ Rescue and Recovery . The Rescue and Recovery progr am opens.

T o install or r einstall the device driver for a factory-installed device, do the following: 1. T urn on the comput er . 2. Use Windows Explor er or My Computer to display the direct ory structure of your har d disk drive. 3. Go t o the C:SWT OOLS dir ectory .
Chapter 4. Using the Setup Utility pr ogram Y ou can use the Setup Utility progr am to view and change the congur ation settings of your computer , regar dless of which oper ating system you are using. However , the operating system settings might override any similar settings in the Setup Utility progr am.
P assword considerations A password can be any combination of up t o 64 (1 to 64) alphabetic and numeric char acters. F or security reasons, it is r ecommended to use a str ong password that cannot be easily compr omised. T o set a str ong password, use the following guidelines: Note: The Setup Utility pr ogram passwords ar e not case sensitive.
Enabling or disabling a device This section pr ovides instructions on how t o enable or disable user access to a device. USB Support Use this option to enable or disable a USB connect or . When a USB connect or is disabled, the device connected to the USB connector cannot be used.
T o view or permanently change the congured startup device sequence, do the following: 1. Start the Setup Utility pr ogram. See “Starting the Setup Utility pr ogram” on page 61. 2. Select Startup ➙ Primary Boot Sequence . Read the information displayed on the right side of the screen.
