Chapter 2. Important service information This chapter pr esents following important service information that applies to all machine types supported by this manual: • “Str ategy for r eplacing FRUs.
Attention: The setup congur ation on the comput er you ar e servicing might have been cust omized. Running Automatic Conguration might alt er the settings. Note the curr ent congur ation settings (using the View Conguration option); then, when service has been completed, verify that those settings remain in effect.
Custom Model V ariant (CMV) This is a unique congur ation that has been negotiated between Lenovo and the customer . A unique 4-digit MT and 3-digit model is pr ovided to the customer t o place orders (Example: 1829-W15). A CMV is a special bid offering.

T o check the ac power adapter , do the following: 1. Unplug the ac power adapter cable from the computer . 2. Measur e the output voltage at the plug of the ac power adapter cable.
• If the voltage is not correct, r eplace the backup batt ery . • If the backup battery discharges quickly after replacement, r eplace the system boar d.

Attention: All the personal les and settings will be delet ed after you rest ore the computer to the factory default settings. Ensure that the user has made a backup copy of all the data before r estoring the computer to the factory default settings.

5. Select Hard-disk x password , wher e x is the letter of the har d disk drive. A pop-up window opens. 6. Select Master HDP . 7. T ype the curr ent master har d-disk password in the Enter Current P assword eld. Then leave the Enter New P assword eld blank, and pr ess Enter twice.
When the power is turned on, the comput er returns from hibernation mode and r esumes oper ation. The hibernation le in the boot recor d on the hard disk drive is read, and system status is restor ed fr om the hard disk drive. Wireless off mode In wireless off mode, the wir eless features ar e turned off t o conserve power .

Retaining the UUID The Universally Unique Identier (UUID) is a 128-bit number uniquely assigned t o your computer at production and stored in the EEPROM of your system board.
