Chapter 1. Safety information This chapt er presents following safety information that you need to be familiar with befor e you service a ThinkP ad T ablet.
• Use only appr oved tools and test equipment. Some hand tools have handles cover ed with a soft material that does not insulat e you when working with live electrical curr ents. • Many customers have, near their equipment, rubber oor mats that contain small conductive bers t o decrease electr ostatic discharges.
Safety inspection guide The purpose of this inspection guide is to assist you in identifying pot entially unsafe conditions. As each machine was designed and built, requir ed safety items were installed to prot ect users and service t echnicians from injury .
1. Use pr oduct-specic ESD pr ocedures when they ex ceed the r equirements noted here. 2. Mak e sur e that the ESD prot ective devices you use have been certied (ISO 9000) as fully effective. When handling ESD-sensitive parts: • K eep the parts in prot ective packages until they ar e inserted into the product.

FRU replacement notices External CRU statement t o customers: Some problems with your pr oduct can be r esolved with a replacement part you can install yourself, called a “Cust omer Replaceable Unit” or “CRU . ” Some CRUs are designated as Self-service CRUs and others are designated as Optional-service CRUs.
Notes: • Make sure that you use the correct scr ew. If you have a tor que scr ewdriver , tighten all screws rmly to the tor que shown in the table for each step in Chapt er 7 “Removing and replacing a FRU” on page 35. Never use a screw that you removed.
Chapter 7. Removing and replacing a FRU External CRU statement t o customers: Some problems with your pr oduct can be r esolved with a replacement part you can install yourself, called a “Cust omer Replaceable Unit” or “CRU . ” Some CRUs are designated as Self-service CRUs and others are designated as Optional-service CRUs.
Note: Befor e r emoving the SIM car d, disconnect the power supply of the int ernal battery by pressing the emergency r eset butt on inside the emergency r eset hole using a straight ened paper clip. After you nish the servicing, make sure that you insert the car d back into the slot rmly .
