9 Machine type and model label The machine type and model label identies your comput er . When you contact L enovo for help, the machine type and model number and the system-unit serial number on the label ar e r equired to help support technicians identify your computer .

Chapter 2. Getting started This chapter helps you quickly start using your tablet. Initial setup instructions T o use the tablet the rst time after you tak e it out of the box, ensure that you follow the instructions below: 1. Use the supplied USB cable and ThinkP ad T ablet AC Charger to connect the tablet to an electrical outlet.
2. T ouch the account that you want to synchr onize with your tablet. 3. Congure the items that you want t o synchr onize. 4. T ouch the menu icon . Then touch Sync Now . Home screens As the starting points t o use your tablet, Home scr eens display the status of your tablet and provide you with access to applications.
3 Applications : Open the application libr ar y to view all installed applications and widgets, add applications and widgets to Home screens, and change the default main Home screen. 4 Desktop The desktop is the area wher e you place widgets, application shortcuts, and application folders for your personal convenience.

2. T ouch and hold the item and dr ag it to the desir ed Home screen. Creating an application folder on a Home screen If you wish t o manage applications on a Home screen by function or by what ever category, cr eate application folders on the Home screen to gr oup such applications.
T ouch T ap gently on the scr een with your ngertip to launch an application, select an it em, open a menu, or type text using the onscr een keyboar d.
Using the onscreen keyboar d The onscreen keyboard is displayed automatically anytime you need to type. It automatically r otates to either the portrait or landscape view based on the tablet orientation. Use the onscreen keyboar d to type text, numbers, symbols, and other char acters.
1. T ouch and hold the settings key on the keyboard or touch the keyboar d settings icon fr om the system bar t o bring up the input method selection dialog box. 2. T ouch the desired language fr om the list. The selected language is displayed on the space k ey .
T o use the ThinkP ad T ablet P en, hold the pen and gently t ouch the scr een with the tip t o accomplish actions such as touch, t ouch and hold, drag, and slide. Y ou also can t ouch an item or a blank ar ea with the pen tip and then press the active button 1 to imitat e a t ouch-and-hold operation.
If you have an unlock mode set, input the corr ect information (passwor d, PIN, or patt ern) to unlock the screen. F or mor e information, see “Locking the tablet screen” on page 53. Y ou cannot perform any work on the tablet while it is in sleep mode.

Chapter 3. W ireless networks and devices Y our tablet can connect t o a variety of networks and devices, including mobile networks (2G or 3G), Wi-Fi data networks, and Bluetooth devices. Note: Some tablet models can connect to both mobile networks (2G or 3G) and Wi-Fi networks, while others can connect t o Wi-Fi networks only .
T o check the network name, Open Andr oid Settings and t ouch Mobile networks . Disabling data roaming on mobile networks Disable the data roaming function to avoid unwanted char ges when you are tr aveling with your tablet to areas cover ed by other carriers’ mobile networks.
1. Open Andr oid Settings and touch Mobile networks ➙ Network oper ators ➙ Sear ch networks . The list of mobile data networks currently available is displayed. 2. T ouch a network fr om the network list, and then follow the instructions on the scr een to establish the connection.
2. T ouch the name of the Wi-Fi network. 3. T ouch F orget . The details of the Wi-Fi network are er ased. Using Bluetooth devices Bluetooth is a short-range wir eless communications t echnology . Chapter 4. Battery and ac power This chapter pr ovides instructions on how to charge the batt ery, how t o extend the battery life between charges, and how t o view the battery status. Charging the batt er y Y our tablet is shipped with a ThinkPad T ablet AC Char ger t o char ge your tablet from any standard ac power outlet.

Extending the battery life between charges When you are tr aveling outdoors with your tablet and the ac power is not available, you can extend the battery life by doing the following: • T urn off Bluet ooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS when not in use . T o turn off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS, do the following: 1.

Chapter 5. Using your tablet This chapter pr ovides instructions on how to use some basic applications and many of your tablet’ s featur es. Browsing the Int ernet Use the br owser to surf the Int ernet and search for information on the W eb.
• Finish typing and then t ouch the enter key on the Andr oid keyboard (or t ouch Go if you are using the Fle xT9 keyboar d). Google V oice Search Y ou also can search for information on the W eb with Google V oice Search. T o search by speaking, do the following: 1.
• Zoom: T ouch and hold this icon, then slide to zoom in and out. • Camer a settings: Access additional icons t o set e xposure, ash, focus, scene mode, white balance, and other settings.
Setting up your Email account T o set up an Email account, do the following 1. T ouch Email fr om the application library . 2. T ype the e-mail address and passwor d of the e-mail account you want to add and then touch Next or Manual setup . 3. F ollow the instructions on the scr een to set up your Email account.
• T o create a gr oup, touch GROUPS . Then touch . • T o add a new contact, touch ALL . Then touch . • T o edit a contact, touch the contact from the contact list, and then touch . • T o delete a contact, t ouch the contact from the contact list, t ouch the menu icon , and then t ouch Delete .
When the tablet is connect ed to your computer thr ough the micr o USB connect or , a menu is displayed on your tablet with the following options: • Low-power charge only . Please turn off your tablet's screen. If you choose this option, turn off the tablet screen by briey pr essing and releasing the power button.
• Disconnect the device pr ogrammatically and then physically as follows: 1. Open Android Settings and touch St orage ➙ Unmount USB stor age . 2. Unplug the USB device safely . W orking with a USB keyboard or USB mouse If you ar e accustomed t o using a tr aditional physical keyboard, you can connect a USB keyboard t o your tablet.
Accessing data on your ash media card When a ash media card is inserted into the 3-in-1 media card r eader , a pop-up message is displayed asking if you want to display the cont ents on the card.
Securing your ash media card T o protect the information from unauthoriz ed access, you can encrypt your ash media car d. Refer to “Encrypting the ash media card” on page 54 for mor e information. Using HDMI devices Y our tablet has a mini HDMI connect or that you can use to connect an ext ernal display for video output.
Using cloud-based synchronization application Y our computer also might be preinstalled with a could-based synchr onization application, Arcsync. The cloud technology enables the application to store massive resour ces, softwar e, and information on a remot e cloud server .
2. T ouch the Security menu to congure the network with Wi-Fi P rotected Access 2 security with a preshar ed key (WP A2 PSK). If you touch WP A2 PSK , a password eld is displayed in the Congure Wi-Fi hotspot dialog bo x.
5. The select ed Wi-Fi pr ole is imported t o your tablet and the Wi-Fi name is listed under Wi-Fi networks on the Wi-Fi settings scr een. When you are within r ange of this Wi-Fi network, your tablet will connect to it aut omatically .
Chapter 6. ThinkP ad T ablet options Y our tablet might come with a ThinkP ad T ablet Keyboard F olio C ase or a ThinkP ad T ablet Dock. If your tablet does not come with one, you can pur chase one fr om Lenovo at http://www.lenovo.com/accessories/services/index.
ThinkP ad T ablet Dock The ThinkP ad T ablet Dock holds your tablet in an upright position and fr ees your hands t o do other tasks. It also provides you easy access t o connectors for USB devices, le tr ansfers, charging, audio input, audio output, and video output.
1. Open the USB cover on the tablet by sliding it to the left. Figure 12. Opening the USB cover 2. Align the USB connector on the tablet with the USB connector on the keyboard folio case and slide the tablet downward until the two USB connectors ar e connected.

Chapter 7. Using your tablet within an enterprise Y our tablet pr ovides support for secur e access to corpor ate networks and Microsoft Exchange. Additionally, a number of business-r elated applications are preinstalled to help you work with and manage your work-relat ed documents.
Documents T o Go enables you to view, edit, and creat e Micr osoft Wor d, Ex cel, and P owerP oint les, and to view PDF les. Citrix Receiver enables you to access virtual desktops and applications fr om your tablet. It also allows you to access secure, centraliz ed services pr ovided by your IT department.
Chapter 8. Security This chapt er provides information about how to prot ect the information stor ed on your tablet. Pr otecting data against viruses Y our tablet is preinstalled with McAfee antivirus progr ams to help you t o detect and eliminat e viruses.
Attention: • F or the Corpor ate Logon mode, after 10 incorrect attempts t o unlock your tablet, your tablet will r eset itself to the factory default state. This process er ases all user-cr eated data from the tablet, including Google or other e-mail account settings, system and application data and settings, and downloaded applications.

Chapter 11. T roubleshooting problems This chapter describes some common problems and suggested solutions, and how to r ecover your tablet from a crash. Be aware that the problems and solutions described in this chapter ar e meant only as a guide. They ar e not denitive problem solving techniques.
Suggested solution : Connect your tablet to an ac power outlet using either a dock or the char ger through the provided USB cable t o see if the problem is caused by a dr ained battery . If the problem persists, insert a str aightened paper clip into the emergency reset hole.
