10 EN DISC INFORMA TION DVD VIDEO Marks Sometimes marks are pr inted on a D VD disc and/or on its packaging to indicate inf or mation regarding the contents and functions of the disc.
EN 11 DISC INFORMA TION Care And Handling Of Discs How to handle discs When handling a disc, do not touch the surface of the disc. Since discs are made of plastic, the y are easily damaged. If a disc gets dir ty , dusty , scratched or warped, the images and sound will not be pick ed up correctly , and such a disc may cause the unit to malfunction.

EN 23 BASIC OPERA TIONS ON DVD DECK Locating A Desired Scene Using The DVD Menu D VD VIDEO d iscs ma y hav e top menu and disc menu. To p m e n u D VD discs generally hav e their own menus which show the disc contents. These menus contain various items such as titles of a movie, names of songs, or artist information.

Nor mal playbac k resumes automatically . ● Skip search cannot be performed when a VCD/SVCD disc is being play ed b ack with the PBC function.
EN 25 BASIC OPERA TIONS ON DVD DECK Marking Positions To Play Back Again Later It is possible to mark positions (up to 999 points) where you want to play bac k once again later, and start playback from a marked position.
26 EN BASIC OPERA TIONS ON DVD DECK Subtitle Selection Some D VD VIDEO discs contain more than one subtitle language, from among which you can choose the desired subtitle language. A h B appears on the TV screen at the beginning of the par t where more than one subtitle language are recorded.

EN 29 BASIC OPERA TIONS ON DVD DECK Time Search Y ou can play bac k a disc from the desire d point by specifying the elapsed playing time from the beginning of a program (D VD-RAM, D VD-R, D VD-RW , D V D VIDEO and H DD) or a disc (Video CD/ SVCD and Audio CD).
30 EN BASIC OPERA TIONS ON DVD DECK Setting The Progressive Mode Y ou can obtain optimal picture quality by selecting whether the content on the disc is processed by field (video source) or by frame (film source). 1 Set the unit to the progressive scan mode.
EN 31 BASIC OPERA TIONS ON HDD DECK 1 Press DV / H D D / DV D on the unit repeatedly or HDD on the remote so that the HDD lamp lights up on the unit. 2 Press I to star t playback. ● The Librar y Database Navigation also enables y ou to search and select the desired programs.
32 EN BASIC OPERA TIONS ON HDD DECK Instant Replay Y ou can mov e back the pla yback position slightly . Press w on the remote control or INST ANT REPLA Y on the unit. ● Each press skips back f or approximately 7 seconds and resumes playbac k. ● Pressing while paused skips ba ck f or approximately 7 seconds and resumes pause.
EN 33 BASIC OPERA TIONS ON DV DECK 1 Load a cassette. Make sure the window side is up , the rear label side is facing y ou and the arrow on the front of the cassette is pointed toward the unit. ● Do not apply too much pressure when inser ting. ● If the erase protection switch is set to A SA VE B , playback begins automatically .
34 EN BASIC OPERA TIONS ON DV DECK Variable Speed Search During playback, press N f or forw ard variable speed search, or O for re verse v ar iable speed search. ● Each press of the button increases the search speed f or each direction. ● T o resume nor mal playbac k, press I .
EN 35 LIVE MEMORY PLA YBA CK ON HDD/DVD DECK This unit records pictures onto the hard disk and D VD-RAM disc, instead of video tapes, then plays bac k the pictures recorded on the disc.

EN 37 LIVE MEMORY PLA YBA CK ON HDD/DVD DECK Temporary recording for Live Memory (HDD deck only) This unit automatically records the A V input being received, within the specified range of time, to the reserved space on the hard disk. The time range can be set for 30 minutes , 1 hour , and 3 hours.

44 EN NA VIGA TION ON HDD/DVD DECK Title information can be registered in the unit’ s memor y for up to 600 D VD discs, 2,000 titles. It is helpful when finding a desired title (or play list) b y sor ting according to the sor t options registered during (or after) reco rding.
EN 45 NA VIGA TION ON HDD/D VD DECK This unit can play bac k discs that MP3/WMA sound files and JPEG image files taken with digital still cameras or other de vices are recorded. The MP3/WMA/JPEG Navigation enab les you to search and select the desired files recorded on CD-R/RW or CD-R OM discs very easily .
46 EN EDITING High Speed Dubbing (From HDD To DVD) It is possible to dub the original recordings and/o r play lists on the HDD deck to D VD discs. The dubbing is perf or med in high speed , keeping the original transf er rate. NOTES: ● After accessing the Dubbing Menu screen, it is not possible to take out a disc.
EN 47 EDITING NOTES: ● In Video mode, if the selected play list includes the scenes recorded in the different tr ansfer rate, the dub bing is performed in the highest transfer rate of the scenes in the selected pla y list. Howe ver , the lower transf er rate cannot be dubbed in the higher transfer rate .
48 EN EDITING Dubbing From DV To HDD (Dubbing An Entire Cassette) It is possible to perform automatic dubbing of all the recorded programs of a cassette from the D V deck to the HDD deck using the A ENTIRE B dubbing. Y ou cannot select the images to be dubbed; all recorded images on the D V cassette will be dubbed.
EN 49 EDITING COMPLETED B appears on the TV screen when the tape end is reached and the tape rewinds automatically . ● Dubbing copyright guarded tape is not possible.
50 EN EDITING Y ou can dub programs from a camcorder or D V equipment connected to the unit with a D V cable . The unit’ s remote control allows y ou the limited control of the connected camcorder or D V equipment functions during dubbing.
EN 51 EDITING ● If the dubbing is paused while the channel is set to A DV B , you cannot switch channels . T o skip un wanted par t of the source picture Press ENTER to stop both equipment, then press s election keys to select . Locate the point where you want to restart dubbing by pressing I , N , or O , then press o .
52 EN EDITING Y ou can use a camcorder as the source pla yer and your unit as the recording deck. If y our camcorder has a D V IN/OUT connector, y ou can use the camcorder as the recording deck and your unit as the source play er . 1 Make connections.

EN 55 EDITING Y ou can dub selected audio from a D VD or Audio CD disc to a digital audio device . Howe ver , it is not possible to dub cop y-protected discs. Example: Dubbing to an MD 1 Connect the unit and a digital audio device using either an optional optical cable or an optional coaxial cable .
56 EN EDITING This function allows you to record ne w audio , without erasing the original audio, on a D V tape that was recorded with A D V AUDIO REC B set to A 12BIT B ( A pg. 62). 1 Connect an audio device to the unit’ s [A UDIO] input connectors on the front panel.
EN 57 EDITING Inser t Editing replaces the pictures with new ones, while the audio soundtrack remains unchanged. F or Inser t Editing, use your unit as the recording deck. 1 Make connections. A If the play er has n o S-VIDEO output connector: ^ connect the play er’s VIDEO OUT connector to your unit’ s [VIDEO] input connector on the front panel.
58 EN REMOTE CONTROL Remote Control 1/2/3/4 Code Switching The remote control is capable of controlling four JVC video units independently . Each of the units can respond to one of the four codes (1, 2, 3 or 4). The remote control is preset to send co de 3 signals because your unit is initially set to respond to code 3 signals.
EN 59 SYSTEM CONNECTIONS These instructions en able y ou to connect your unit to a Dolby Digital Decoder or an amplifier with built-in DTS. 1 Connect the unit and a Dolby Digital Decoder or an amplifier with built-in DTS using either an optional optical cab le or an optional coaxial cable.
60 EN SUBSIDIARY SETTINGS V arious modes of this unit are categorized into menus nested in 2 lev els shown in the following tab le. T o change the settings of these modes, find the desired mode in the menu (f or details on each menu, see pages 60 through 62), then f ollow the procedure below .
EN 61 SUBSIDIARY SETTINGS DISC PLAY SET UP 8 RESUME ^ OFF / ON / DISC RESUME When this function is set to A ON B or A DISC RESUME B , you can use the resume function. ( A pg. 24) OFF : Y ou cannot use the resume function. ON : Y ou can star t playback from the resume point of the placed disc.
62 EN SUBSIDIARY SETTINGS 8 QUICK ST ARTUP ^ OFF / ON When this function is set to A ON B , operations such as pla yback can be performed more quickly upon turning on the unit than whe n set to A OFF B . How e ver , the power consumption during standby increases.
EN 63 SUBSIDIARY SETTINGS Some D VD-RAM/RW discs are unf or matted. F ormat th e disc when you use an unf or matted disc or you want to delete all recordings and data on the disc. T o use a D VD-R disc in VR mode, f ormat the new disc in VR mode. (It will be in Video mode when not formatted.
64 EN SUBSIDIARY SETTINGS Finalizing D VD-R/R W discs recorded on this unit makes it possible for the discs to be pla yed back on other D VD play ers. D VD-RW discs are finalized in the mode that the discs were f or matted, enabling pla yback on compatible D VD play ers.
EN 65 SUBSIDIARY SETTINGS Cancel The Finalization Of A DVD-RW Disc 1 Load a D VD-RW disc to cancel the disc finalization, and perf orm steps 1 – 2 of A Finalize A D VD-R/RW Disc B ( A pg. 64) before continuing. 2 Press selection keys to select A HDD/D VD SET UP B , then press G .
66 EN SUBSIDIARY SETTINGS This function allows you to replace the original backgrounds av ailable on this unit with your own created bac kgrounds. Up to 18 backgrounds can be replaced. Besides the background, y ou can also change the text color to impro ve the visibility of the text on a dark background.
EN 67 SUBSIDIARY SETTINGS Y ou can select a desired background from the 18 original backgrounds or the bac kgrounds and/or text colors that you ha ve created ( A pg. 66), and set it as the default bac kground to be used during finalization ( A pg. 46, 64).
68 EN SUBSIDIARY SETTINGS If you connect the unit and TV with Component Video Connection ( A pg. 18), you can select the scan mode from two modes: Interlaced scan mode which is used in the conventional TV system, and Progressiv e sca n mode which enables reproduction of higher-quality images.
EN 69 TROUBLESHOOTING Before requesting service for a prob lem, u se this char t and see if you can solv e the trouble yourself . Small problems are often easily solved, and this can sa ve y ou the trouble of sending your unit off f or repair .
