8 Getting started • Do not connect the A C power cor d until all other connecti ons have been made. • Since different co mponents often hav e different terminal names, carefully read the instructions supplied with the components y ou are going to connect.

Getting started 10 Connecting the powered subwoofer Connect the supplied powered subwoofer (SP-PW A85/ SP-PW A55) using the system cord (supplied). • Connect the system cord by matching the 5 marks on the plugs to the ones on th e center unit and powered subw oofer .
Getting started 11 7 Assembling t he satell ite speaker s (TH-A85 only) Each speaker (except the cente r speaker) has been divided into t wo parts for shipment. Before connec ting the satellite speake rs, first assemble them by following t he pr ocedur e below .
Getting started 12 7 Connecting the satellite (front, center, surround ) speakers (TH-A85) Each speaker (SP-THA85F) can be used as a front or surround speaker .
Getting started 13 7 Connecting the satellite (front, center, surround ) speakers (TH-A55) Be sure to identify each speaker (SP-THA55C/SP-THA55F/SP-THA55S) and connec t them to the corresponding terminals of the powered subwoofer .

19 Basic operations This section mainly explains operations co mmonly used when you enjoy this sys tem. • Turn on your TV and select the correct input mode on the TV . IMPORTANT Before using the remote control for the following operation, • Set the remote control mode selector to A UDIO .
Basic operations 20 On the remote contro l: Press one of the source selecting buttons (DVD, FM/AM, AUX or TV SOU ND). DV D : T o play back a disc (DVD, V ideo CD etc.). ( A pg. 23, 25) FM/AM : T o tune in an FM or AM (MW) station. ( A pg. 27) Each time you press the b utton, the band altern ates between FM and AM (MW).
Basic operations 21 IMPORTANT Before using the remote control for the follo wing operatio n, • Set the remote control mode selector to AUD IO . Y ou can dim th e indicatio ns on the display wind ow an d the illuminatio n lamp le v el on the ce nter unit.
Basic operations 22 Y ou can adjust the output le vel within the range from –10 to 10. On the remote contro l: Press S.WFR +/–. NOTE • You can also make adjustments using the choice menu shown on the TV screen. ( A pg. 54 ) • The adjustments on a source take effect for the other sources.

Playback 24 NOTE • You can check playback information on the display window and the TV screen. ( A pg. 37 ) • Some tracks on an MP3 disc may be skipped or may not be played back normally. • When you play back a JPEG disc , press buttons after the whole picture appears on the TV screen.

T uner operations 28 2 Press MEMORY. The channel number position st arts f lashing on the display window for about 5 seconds. While the channel numbe r position is flashing: 3 Press number button(s) (1-10, +10) to select a channel number. The channel number and the CH indicator start flashing.
