7 English Getting Star ted This section explains how to connect stereo components and speakers to the receiver , and how to connect the power supply . Before Installation General • Be sure your hands are dry . • T urn the power of f to all components.
8 English Note: If reception is poor , connect the outside antenna. Before attaching a 75 Ω coaxial cable (the kind with a round wire going to an outside antenna), disconnect the supplied FM wire antenna.
9 English Connecting the Speakers Y ou can connect the following speakers: • T wo sets of front speakers to produce normal stereo sound • One set of rear speakers to enjo y the surround effect •.
10 English Connecting the rear and center speakers Connect the rear speakers to the REAR SPEAKERS terminals and the center speaker to the CENTER SPEAKER terminals. Notes: • When you connect rear speakers, make sure that both left and right speakers are connected; otherwise, no sound will come out of the rear speakers.
11 English Getting Star ted Note: When connecting a JVC TV : • If you use the A V COMPU LINK remote control system to operate the TV , connect the receiver to the Video Input 2 jack on the TV . • If you do not use the A V COMPU LINK remote control system to operate the TV , connect the receiver to the Video Input 1 jack on the TV .
12 English DVD player connection • When you play back a disc on the DVD player in stereo (or the audio output setting of the DVD player is mixed to two front channels): DVD player To front left/righ.
13 English Notes: • A small amount of power is always consumed even in standby mode. T o switch of f the power completely , unplug the power cord from the AC outlet. • If the power cord is unplugged (or a power failure occurs), preset settings will be erased in a few days.
14 English Basic Operations The following operations are commonly used when you play any sound source. T urning the Power On and Off On the front panel: T o turn on the power , press PO WER. The ST ANDBY lamp goes of f. The name of the current source (or station frequency) appears on the display .
15 English Adjusting the V olume On the front panel: T o increase the v olume, turn MASTER V OLUME clockwise. T o decrease the v olume, turn it counterclockwise. When you turn MASTER V OLUME rapidly , the v olume le v el also changes rapidly . When you turn MASTER V OLUME slowly , the v olume le v el also changes slowly .
16 English Recording a Sour ce Y ou can record any source playing through the receiv er to a cassette deck connected to the T APE jacks and the VCR connected to the VCR jacks at the same time. While recording, you can listen to the selected sound source at whatever sound level you like, without af fecting the sound lev els of the recording.
17 English Adjusting the Front Speaker Output Balance If the sounds you hear from the front right and left speakers are unequal, you can adjust the speaker output balance. On the front panel only : 1. Press SETTING so that the Control 5 5 5 5 5 / ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ / 2 2 2 2 2 / 3 3 3 3 3 buttons work for adjusting the balance.
18 English When the shut-off time comes The recei ver turns off automatically . T o check or change the time remaining until the shut-off time 1. Press SETTING, if necessary , so that the Control 5 / ∞ / 2 / 3 buttons work for setting the Sleep T imer .
19 English Selecting the Center Speaker Size Y ou can register the information about the center speaker after all connections are completed. If you do this registration first, you do not have to adjust the center speaker mode when you want to activate the surround sound.
20 English One T ouch Operation This receiver can memorize the optimum sound settings for each playing source. About the One T ouch Operation JVC’ s One T ouch Operation function is used to assign and store dif ferent sound settings for each diff erent playing source.
21 English Notes: • When you hold down Control 2 / 3 in step 3, the frequency keeps changing until you press Control 2 / 3 again or a station is tuned in. • When a station of sufficient signal strength is tuned in, the TUNED indicator lights up on the display .
22 English 5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 until you stor e all the stations you want. T o cancel a stored pr eset station Storing a new station on a used number erases the previously stored one.
23 English Receiving Radio Br oadcasts Note: Y ou can store the FM reception mode for each preset station. Selecting the FM Reception Mode Y ou can change the FM rece ption mode while recei ving an FM broadcast.
24 English Using the Pr eset SEA Modes The preset SEA (Sound Effect Amplifier) modes give you control of the way your music sounds. Notes: • The preset SEA modes cannot be used for recording. • When you turn on the preset SEA mode, the mode with its effect level previously selected is recalled at first.
25 English Using the Pr eset SEA Modes From the r emote control: 1. Press SOUND CONTR OL so that 10 keys work f or adjusting the sound. 2. Press SEA MODE until the pr eset SEA mode you want appears on the display . The previously selected mode is recalled (at its previous ef fect lev el) and is shown on the display .
26 English Using the Sur r ound Pr ocessor The built-in surround processor provides three groups of Surround Processor modes — JVC 3D-PHONIC mode, DAP (Digital Acoustic Processor) mode, and surround modes (Dolby Surround and JVC Theater Surround).
27 English Using JVC 3D-PHONIC Modes When using JVC 3D-PHONIC modes, you need only two front speak ers to reproduce the soundtracks of video software bearing the mark DOLBY SURROUND . The 3D-PHONIC modes gi ve you very realistic surround ef fects as if the sound is reproduced through the Dolby Surround decoder .
28 English 6. Press Control 2 2 2 2 2 / 3 3 3 3 3 to adjust the effect lev el. Each time you press the button, the ef fect lev el changes as follows: As the number increases the eff ect of the selected 3D- PHONIC mode becomes stronger .
29 English Using the DAP Modes Y ou can use fiv e D AP modes — “Dance Club, Liv e Club, Hall, Pavilion, and Headphones. ” These modes (except “Headphones”) require the front speaker s and the rear speakers, b ut do not require a center speaker to enlarg e the sound field.

38 English Using the DVD MUL TI Playback Mode This receiver provides the DVD MUL TI playback mode for reproducing the analog discrete output mode (5.1 CH) of the DVD player . Before playing back a DVD, refer also to the manual supplied with the DVD player .

40 English COMPU LINK Remote Contr ol System The COMPU LINK remote control system allows you to operate JVC audio components through the remote sensor on the receiver .
41 English A V COMPU LINK Remote Control System The A V COMPU LINK r emote control system allows you to operate JVC video components (TV , VCR, and DVD player) through the receiver . Notes: • Without connecting the video components with RCA pin plugs as described on page 1 1, the A V COMPU LINK remote control system cannot operate the components.
